Summary: 5 stars for the film 3 for the DVD!
Review: This is an excellent film beautifully acted surprisingly by Phoebe Cates as well as a wonderful supporting cast. Jim Broadbent as the drunken Mr Worell is hilarious and pitiful at the same time.(He is currently in Moulin Rouge as Mr. Ziedler and was in Topsy Turvy as well.) Stephen Rea is marvelous as the intelligent reporter and Kevin Kline (Phoebe's husband in real life the last time I heard.) Has a great role as Frixos the head butler. What a charming and delightful tale. Unfortunately you would think studios would have figured out by now that DVD's need more features to sell as well as a choice of Widescreen or Standard. This one is ONLY in Standard and very little in the way of specila features...

Summary: An excellent romantic light comedy
Review: This is definitely not the typical Phoebe Cates fare - if you're expecting an 18th Century version of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High', you might be disappointed. However, if you enjoy seeing fine actors creating lovely characters in a touchingly funny movie, you'll love this under-advertised, relatively unknown movie. The film will be enjoyed by people of all ages, and is a good movie for the holidays (although it is not a christmas story). If you liked 'Enchanted April', you're sure to like this treat (and if you haven't yet seen 'Enchanted April', for heaven's sake go out and rent or buy it).

Summary: Fabulous Family Fare
Review: This is such a wonderful movie -- engaging, humorous, delightful, romantic, and based on a real event. Beautifully acted and produced, with wonderful costumes, it also provides good fodder for a family discussion of human values. It's easy for us to become complacent about the idea that "all humanity is created equal" (of equal value) - but that's a radical notion throughout most of human history, even "civilized" England from a few hundred years ago. Buy it! Enjoy it!

Summary: Delightful story with wonderful ensemble of actors
Review: This story of a poor British girl with limited means and a big imagination is one of my favorite movies, and always leaves a smile on my face (and maybe a few tears in my eyes, too.). The cast is absolutely dreamy, including Jim Broadbent, Stephen Rea, John Lithgow, the hilarious Kevin Kline, and the beautiful Phoebe Cates as the "Princess". Anyone who loves "period" pieces will love this film. (It is now being shown on the "Romance" cable TV channel, too.)

Summary: Funny, endearing Phoebe Cates supreme.
Review: When my husband rented this movie, which I had never heard of before, I thought he was crazy. What kind of a decent movie would be called "Princess Caraboo"? As this story unfolded, I found myself absolutely immersed in the outcome. The plot is that of a poor girl with a rich imagination using her assets to pull one over on high society. Princess Caraboo found herself living and socializing with the richest of the rich, and fooling them all. Sort of a self-made Eliza Doolittle. Thoroughly enjoyable.
