Review: For a movie starring two comedic geniuses Bernie Mac And Chris Rock this dissapoints. It's not that funny. There are some really funny scenes but it doesn't add up at the end. It is a good movie though and i liked it.

Summary: Funny but lacking entertainment!
Review: I admit I laughed during this movie but what made me give it 3 stars was the plot. Okay, it would be cool for a black guy to run for president, but with the way people are today, there won't be a black president, but if this is what he/she would be like, I'm all for it! Chris Rock's directorial debut could have been better much better but instead it had a few good laughs but it just wasn't enough to make me want to buy it. OVERALL GRADE: 7.9/10

Summary: Spielberg's Finest Hour
Review: This movie has done more than any other to confirm what people have been saying about Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg for years. The setting in South East DC was very familier territory. It's where I learned to use a needle to shoot up, and where my childhood friend died in a hospital after being poisoned while recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. I'm glad Spielberg was able to make light of these conditions, and to point the blame back on the city official from the other side of town. The character chosen to play the part of the official heading up the demolition team at the beginning was perfect. He really reminds me of the kind of schmos we have running around here. The notion that the government/party would train an elite team of "supper wh*rez" was absolutely hysterrical. The beautiful blond chosen for the part was quite appropreate to serve as a substitute for Chandra Levi and Monica Lewinsky. This movie is a direct affront to the far-right nut-cases such as David Duke and other anti-semites who claim people like Spielberg are attemting to destroy traditional American values. Keep up the good work mr. Spielberg! Thank G*d for crime! What a laugh!!! :-D

Summary: why does everyone not like it?? its hilarious!
Review: Why doesnt anyone like this movie? I'm suprised it didnt do more at the box office, but once i saw it im really wondering. This movie was constantly funny thoughout, and I'm pretty hard to please. As would be expected there are many racial jokes that come across, but unlike other chris rock movies doesnt totally glorify the black man over the white man. with all that aside, it actually had me cheering for the liberal. heh. great length- it got right on top of things when it started and never was a dull moment. sure, it had its share of flaws, but all of that can be easily over looked. it's almost as good as bringing down the house. i definately recommend watching this movie.

Review: Don't believe the haters - this movie is wickedly funny, even if it is a little bit predictable and formulaic, but so what!!!! It's FUNNY!!!! Chris Rock tears it up, Bernie Mac nearly steals the show, and the rest of the cast provide solid support. Forget Bush and Gore, CHRIS ROCK AND BERNIE MAC IN 2004...YA HEARD!!!!!

Review: Chris Rock is funny. Bernie Mac is funny. Both comedic geniuses are funny together. The problem? This movie wasn't funny. Perposterous plot, stereotypes lambasted trhoughout, and worst of all - poor comedic timing. I knew the punchlines way before they were delivered. This is why it was in the theaters for less than 3 weeks... it bombed. It was hyped up well, so it took in a lot of money during the opening week - but word of mouth quickly killed this bomb.

Summary: An Ok Movie...
Review: "Head of State" is not a must-see movie, nor is it the typical Chris Rock movie. Rock wrote, directed, and stars in this political comedy (way different from his usual black comedies, which are usually a lot funnier), which might have overloaded him a bit. The jokes aren't like those that were as hilarious in his past movies, but there are a few funny moments, such as the "Electric Slide" scene. But it just doesn't add up. This movie is about a man by the name of Mays Gilliam, who is elected to run as president when the man who was supposed to run before him died in a head on plane collision (from talking on the phone, of course). He accepts, very sketchy at first, but becomes more and more comfortable with his position of president...of the Untied States...of America...North America, as soon as he gets inspiration from his big brother (Bernie Mac) to express himself his own way, instead of reading what overs have prepared for him to say. Later on in the movie (a little too late, sadly), Mac joins his brother in the election as position of Vice President, and together they finally get Gilliam's challenger to face them off in a debate. If you want to enjoy this movie enough to give it a even"3" rating, you have to realize it's a movie, and a comedy at that. In a previous review, someone said that it was ridiouclus that the elderly people at the party instantly knew how to do what he called the Electric "Fly". Well, that could never happen in real life, and if it did happen in real life, I'd be more strange than funny, anyway. That's why you need to realize it's a movie, and this goes for all movies! Lighten up, people. Anyway, if you're going to see this for your typical Rock laughs, I suggest taking precautions, but if you want political jokes, be my guest...

Review: Despite the far-fectched plot and random happenings throughout this movie, it was still a comedic genius. Chris Rock is truly one of the funniest men ever, and this is one of his funniest movies. I reccomend it to anyone who wants a good laugh. This movie is about a black Washington DC alderman (Chris Rock) who is chosen to run for President and lose. Together, him and his running-mate/brother (the always funny Bernie Mac) set out to foil the people he is running for and acually win. Well I'm not telling you the outcome, but this movie is hilarious and inspired. SEE IT NOW FOR A HUGE BARREL OF BELLY-LAUGHS!...

Summary: This movie "just ain't right"
Review: This movie proves that a great concept, a big budget, and two of the funniest stand-up comedians on earth are not the only ingredients necessary in making a good film comedy. There were two scenes that made me double over and laugh out loud... and for that alone, the film gets one star. During the rest of this film, however, I sat w/ my arms crossed, not so much as cracking a smile. This movie was not to the caliber of work one rightfully expects from these 2 bright comedians. Bernie Mac has a unique talent - he just needs to look into the camera and you can start laughing. Sadly, the best scenes involving him were in the trailers on TV commercials - so there were really no surprises during the film. The plot is focused on Mays Gilliam (played by Chris Rock) who is an Alderman in Washington D.C. He's not a "team player" in that he won't play the political game. His short-lived political career quickly ends until the Democratic candidates for president and vice president are killed when their planes collide. The big-wigs in the party decide to pick Gilliam to run as the party's presidential candidate and he eventually has his brother (Bernie Mac) come on the ticket as his running mate. The story and concept were well thought out, but the delivery and timing of the humor was less than stellar. I knew the punchlines 10 seconds before they were delivered - the spark of spontaneity just wasn't there. I'm sure that when Chris Rock was first putting pen to paper and developing this story, he had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. Sadly, it's as though he and/or others involved in the production fell too much in love w/ the original dialogue and didn't suggest/accept improvements to make it fresher. I really wanted this movie to be better - but in the end, I was greatly disappointed. This could have been much better... perhaps w/ Rock being the star, but not the director - who knows? There was just something missing... the laughter.
