Summary: A good time
Review: Vacation is a fun time at best!!!!,Chase is funny as Clark W. Griswald,Randy Quaid is fun as cousin Eddie and Christie Brinkley is incredibly hot as the Ferrari girl, including the pool scene.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: pales in comparison to its sequels
Review: Vacation is a decent comedy film, to be sure. But you may want to avoid this one and try the other, better, Vacation movies first (i.e. European, Christmas, Vegas). While good for several laughs, including an absolutely hilarious scene involving "cousin eddie," this movie seems to suffer from poor directing. The dialogue often rambles and seems awfully unpolished for a John Hughes flick. Even worse, good jokes are often ruined by inappropriate music: The soundtrack seems better-suited for a video game than a major motion picture. Hardcore Chevy Chase fans will nonetheless delight at the Griswold follies, but others may want to pass.

Summary: Great movie, fun for all!
Review: I just love this film. It brings a smile to my face each time I view it. This is without a doubt the best family film. Chevy Chase is just so fun to watch. With Beverly D'Angelo by his side it's great. Look quick at the beginning for Eugene Levy.

Summary: Hail Marty Moose!
Review: Anyone who has ever embarked on a "Vacation from Hell" can and will readily identify with this hilarious film. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION introduces the Griswold clan, headed by lovable-but-unlucky Clark (Chevy Chase), who takes his wife and two children cross-country for a dream vacation at Wallyworld. Problem is, the Griswolds encounter one disaster after another during their trek, from getting lost in East St. Louis to leaving a recently-deceased relative propped up in a lawn chair.

If this movie isn't Murphy's Law unchecked, I don't know what is.

With each hysterical mishap, the normally ebullient Clark inches closer and closer to "losing it." Having been planning and looking forward to this trip for months, Clark--ever the eternal, naive optimist--becomes more and more frustrated, shaken. Ticked. And when the golden moment arrives, when Clark finally loses control, the viewer is rewarded with sheer comic bliss.

Imogene Coca, Randy Quaid, John Candy, and a delightfully voluptuous Beverly D'Angelo round out an exceptional cast. Director Harold Ramis keeps the story flowing smoothly from one disaster to the next. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION is by far the funniest and the best of the "Vacation" movies, and is more than worthy to take its place in anyone's video collection.

Summary: "We're not really violent people. This is our first gun."
Review: I really do not know how to even begin describing this movie. It is seriously one of the greatest movies of all time that you would not place in that category. In terms of making a movie in the comedy genre involving a family, this has to be the greatest. The thought and detail that went into this type of film was marvelous.

"I think I broke my nose."
"I stabbed my brain."
"I just got my first period."

The series with the dog and aunt Edna was out of control. The interaction at the park, when Beverly D'Angelo yells "Hey Rusty, stop playing with the dog and get some lunch," and the dog is knawing at the poor kid. Chevy Chase tries to look sexy while eating the bologna and cheese sandwich only to find out the dog pissed on it. Aunt Edna shrugs her shoulders and continues to eat it, classic. In a later sequence D'Angelo tells Aunt Edna, "move from the car and I'll split your lip."

Harold Ramis (Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, and Analyze This & That) directs this marvelous film. His control over the characters as he presents them to the viewer is marvelous. Each scene and sub story is also wonderful.

You also have to enjoy the scenes that are classic 80's. How about the computer he uses to plan the trip? The computer monitor is the television. "Rusty, please do not eat the truckster." If you pay close attention to the D'Angelo at the hotel scene in which Chase gets caught with Brinkley, she (D'Angelo) is wearing the same pink polo shirt Rusty was wearing when they arrived at Uncle Eddie's. Also, at the very beginning, D'Angelo is scrapping food into tupperware, and Chase is wiping off the plate and putting it directly into the cupboard (without washing it).

National Lampoon's Vacation is a must have in your DVD collection. I honestly feel you need all of them, with European Vacation being the worst in my opinion. National Lampoon's Vacation is a movie you can definitely buy even if you have never seen it, and is an all time classic.

Summary: Family classic
Review: Successful enough to spawn a five-movie franchise, this was filmed at the height of Chevy Chase's career and capitalizes on his persona as a goofy charismatic family man. I can't think of any road movie comedies that came before this, and I can see why the success of this movie was emulated. Some of the jokes have become dated, but it's still fun to see young comedians like Randy Quaid, John Candy, and Eugene Levy ham it up for their supporting roles. Quaid is particularly funny as the white trash relative who hits the Griswalds up for cash.

Summary: Vacation(1983)*****
Review: Clark Griswold and his family wants to take a vacation to the great amusment park Wally World. They have to travel across half the country by car from Chicago to California in order to get there.Of course they run into a few minor problems like running into there cousin Eddie and are pretty much obligated to drive there Aunt Edna to Arizona(mean lady who hates everyone). But they wind up accidently killing her and her dog. However, they have to press on.Eventually they get to Wally World and suddenly realize that...I guess you will have to buy the movie to find out the ending.Anyways, you will get a buncg of laughs out of this classic movie.Definetly see it

Summary: Solid comedy from before 1985
Review: Seems like every film before the year 1985 was more solid in storyline than any film from after 85. This simplistic, slapstick, and sexy (thanks to Beverly D'Angelo) film is perfect. While I don't consider the adventures of the Griswalds to be that realistic they ring true enough and hey a movie has to have story and giving a film all the depth and credibilty of real life is not possible so rent and enjoy this great comedy from when movies were still movies.
