Summary: Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat
Review: Now here's a strange case. Martin Lawrence is easily one of the funniest men on the planet. He just is. But once he became a leading man in feature films around 1996, he stopped being funny. With pictures such as `Big Momma's House,' `Black Knight,' `A Thin Line Between Love And Hate,' and `Blue Streak,' you'd be hard pressed to find a laugh in even one of them. Yet, when Lawrence takes the stage, it's like the mighty Kong on top of the Empire State Building, swatting away bad press and forgettable movies with the swing of his arms. `Runteldat' is pure Lawrence, a stand up comedy film created to counter the media scuttle over his past indiscretions, and also a potent reminder to fans who've lost faith in the comedian.

Shot over the course of two nights in Washington D.C., `Runteldat' showcases a hungry Martin Lawrence. He's ready to spill the beans on his problems (intersection standoffs with the cops, nightclub fights, a near-death bout with heat stroke), and, like his last concert film `You So Crazy,' Lawrence has brought with him a bag full of comedic delights. His take on unruly kids, the search for Osama bin Laden, and race differences on `Cops' are the stuff of comic gold. Lawrence prowls the stage with such fierceness and enthusiasm that it makes me downright sad that almost no director (even Lawrence himself) has found a way to transfer this stage chemistry to the big screen properly. It's a sad state of affairs that the only reasonably good films Lawrence has made in the last ten years (save for `Life,' and possibly `Nothing To Lose') have been his two concert films.

There is a higher agenda to `Runteldat' than simple jokes: Lawrence wants to use the forum to bash the media that's been treating him so badly, and he even throws in a rant about film critics to boot. This is the same media that Lawrence claims not to be bothered by, yet this acidic, fuming film goes out into 1,000 screens across the country, so go figure than one out. Lawrence believes he's received the raw end of the deal in press reports that portray him as unstable. He senses that people don't have the real story, hence `Runteldat.' But Lawrence does the same one-sided whitewash as the media, as he tries to joke his way out of disturbing stories of drug abuse and armed tomfoolery. `Runteldat' shoves an `I'm as human as the next man' message down the viewer's throat, and I admire that more than I would ever believe it. Even when Lawrence himself tells these wild tales, it still makes him look unstable.

If `Runteldat' doesn't exactly showcase Lawrence at the top of his game, at least it serves as a reminder that the man still has game. Now if he'd only care this much about his film career! --------- 8/10

Summary: Waste of time! I want my money back!!
Review: Okay, so kick me for giving this movie 2 stars. The first star was for being (excuse me) ballsy enough to do a stand-up routine based on his own indiscretions, embarassing moments, and general muck-ups, instead of as he said, "waiting for the E! True Hollywood Story to tell it." Fair enough, but I am thinking that the E! Story might have been more entertaining and less buffoonery. All that aside, this movie was a waste of an afternoon that I spent. There were very few parts that were funny/amusing. The only heartfelt message that came across was: "No one is immune to the trials and tribulations of life." Well, damn, Martin. Maybe you oughta give comedy a rest and try philosophy.

Summary: Runteldat this movie isn't funny! spread the word.
Review: Saw this last night on Cable, thank god I didn't pay to see it as I would be demanding my money back.
What happened to Martin?
Seems like he got lost on the freeway he was bugging out on.
I am not a "Paragon of virtue" but jeeeez the "F" word was used to fill up the awkward moments when he just wasn't funny...ALOT.
The way he was running back and forth on the stage during the routine to make funny points made me tired...and so was he..he was out of breath half the time trying to explain what happened (the so-called truth..which I still don't believe)
the day he went "Crazy". I give him props for talking about it and using it for material to make us laugh much like Richard Pryor did when he explained to his fans during his comedy routine what happened when he caught fire and ran down the street back in the day.
Anyways Martin's jokes were NOT funny, you felt the audience was FORCING themselves to laugh out of lack of something to do, afterall, this is a comedy stand up and if it gets too serious we get uncomfortable. What happened to his "ghetto girl/sha-nay-nay" character..he used it in all his comedy routines when he spoke about woman, it was funny, he was sort of using it in this movie but it just wasn't funny and it was limited. How can you talk about 2 subject the WHOLE ENTIRE movie?!?! GOODNESS!

Martin sorry to say is pretty much "a rap", right now he best stick to doing movies at least he has to abide by a script and can drop in some comedy like Bad boys II and National treasure and even black knight which I hated but it grew on me.

Too many awkward moments in this film and contradicting talk.
Disappointed..I wanted to laugh.

Review: some very funny bits, my favorite was about inspecting the "package" before marriage. Martin describing the 3 incidents in the tabloids was also very funny

Review: Summary:
It's about an hour and a half of Martin Lawrence doing stand up along with a short collage of video clips from his movies and some of the reports surrounding his arrests, etc.

My Comments:
Waste of an hour and a half. No, it was worse than a waste, it was offensive and tasteless. Thank goodness I was doing stuff on my laptop so I don't feel so bad about wasting my time. Martin tells any critics watching the film that they can .... Well, it probably has something to do the fact that he isn't funny. There were a couple of times when I almost laughed. But I just can't laugh at bigotry and ignorance. Perhaps this is funny to some people. Well, not me.

The second major problem is that he actually tries to offer advice. Why should I take any advice from Martin Lawrence? Because he nearly killed himself and got thrown in jail? Because he's done a lot of stupid stuff? If you're going to give unrequested advice, you should at least make it good advice. Don't look for it here.

Perhaps what I find most fascinating, however, is that he can go from talking crassly about sex to praising god in the next sentence. The variety of people that believe in god is stunning, from the ultra-pious to the disgustingly offensive.

Overall, it isn't funny and it isn't worth your time. I'm sure it must appeal to someone, but it definitely didn't appeal to me. (Don't ask me why I watched it, I don't have a good answer.)

Summary: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............
Review: The first time I attempted to watch the DVD I fell asleep sometime around 6mins of the concert. The second time I tried to watch the concert I fell asleep around the 4th minute of the concert. Why is it I can't make it through 2 the end? People save your money, I sure would like 2 have my $...back.

Summary: Pure idiot!
Review: the only reason i gave him a 1 star was because there was no 0 star available. Frankly after watching this, I realised Martin Lawrence is the biggest idiot on television.

One example. He talked about how sept. 11 brought united the blacks and whites. In his next sentence he talks about how the blacks and whites united to discriminate those who looked arab decent and according to him "looked like bin-ladin." he gives an example by saying how he pulled the turban off an indian man.

wow. what a display of how racism suddenly didnt matter anymore... or between the blacks and whites atleast.

i could go on, but i dont want to waste my time on it anymore.

Summary: dissappointing
Review: this is one of the first stand up comedy dvd's i have bought (along with kings of comedy) and i have to say i was dissappointed. he's really not too funny with his racial jokes, chris rock and dave chapelle are much better in this area. also its annoying to hear more bin laden/911 jokes... they're just not that funny. i really wish i could return this dvd, i couldnt even watch it all the way through the whole thing

Summary: Runteldat
Review: This movie was funny from the time I sat down to the last line when the show was over. The brotha tells it how it is....from his point of view. Its better to hear the story from the horses mouth then to hear if from any one else or critic. Martin isn't one of my favorite comedians but he had me lauphing and thats what I went to see the show for.

Thank You Martin
