Summary: A future release for you...in the future
Review: Wow, I only now (3/7/4) read that the Ed Wood DVD was recalled. Fortunately, my copy had already been shipped to me :-)

I did not notice any technical problems playing the movie or special features. Some rumors have it that music rights were not secure, others that the studio was hoping for some Oscar fall out.

Regardless, this is the best of Tim Burton's movies that I've seen (about 4 others). I think his work is generally too gloomy and dark, but this was a great movie. It has off-beat characters, a good story, and best of all, a recreation of portions of "Plan Nine From Outer Space", Ed's infamous really-bad movie.

Well acted, funny, and interesting characters from start to finish. Nice extras on DVD.

Summary: Lets buy the f@#$@%!!!!!!!
Review: I have a copy so listen up. I still think this was a mistake for me to buy except for the fact that I could sell this on ebay. It was a mistake because they might put more stuff when they release it again. They probably took it back because they probably wanted to make a ten year anniversary eddition, which would probably make it 2 disc. Also probably they wanted to make a commentary with Johnny Depp, where I got this from you ask? ...shhh...dont say anything. Anyways these special features are good too. It's also the first time you see this film in widescreen. This film can interest you in Ed Wood Jr, I have looked at his films and laughed very very hard. He is the best at making bad films. Trust me he is the king at making bad films and this film is very funny. I still don't really get why this film is rated R. They hardly say any bad words. Well either way when this film comes out again, buy it. Plus there's an Easter egg. Can't find it still, but when I do I'll let you know.

Summary: I have a copy that fell through the cracks
Review: Thanks to the thoughtfulness and tenacity of a friend, I have a copy that was put on a shelf and sold before the recall.

I have checked out everything but the commentary and there are no flaws, not even the menu problem mentioned by another reviewer.

Absent any statement from Buena Vista, we may as well conclude that they postoponed the release (again) until after the Academy Awards, hoping that Depp or Murray will win. Then they can change the packaging to reflect the Oscar victory and release it with fanfare.

Yet another predictably stupid marketing ploy. These middle management stiffs have to impose a lame idea on everything; They are only alienating the viewers who really want this disc; as for the potential sales boost from a Depp or Murray Oscar victory, do they think that those buyers would be less likely to purchase it because it's already been out for a month?

The disc is first rate, with the kind of substantial deleted scenes that pursue plot threads further and are therefore of interest to any fan. The featurettes are all solid. Thanks to the reviewer who pointed out the "easter egg" additional deleted scene.

Hope they release it promptly.

Summary: WHERE IS IT??
Review: Tim Burton's masterpiece Ed Wood was to be released on February 10th, chock full of special features including commentary. My question is: WHERE IS IT?? Why was is pulled from release a mere day or two before the day it was supposed to be on shelves? WHERE IS IT AND WHY ISN'T IT OUT YET??

Summary: LUCKY ME
Review: Not only did I accidentally find two copies of this recalled "unreleased" DVD at Blockbuster, it was accidentally marked at $9.99 instead of $29.99.

Great movie .. great extras .. pick it up .. if it's ever released .. HA!!

Summary: I CANT WAIT FOR THE DVD!!
Review: This film probably was stopped on dvd, for legal reasons, otherwise, why would the movie studio print up all the copies, film the special features and ship em, only to destruct em. Im sure as soon as the legal aspect is fixed, we will get the movie on DVD!!!!! Remember people, They want to sell the movie as bad as we want to own it!

Summary: Can your heart stand the shocking story of the Ed Wood DVD?
Review: I had been waiting for Ed Wood to come out on DVD for years. I pre-ordered this DVD as soon as it went on sale. Then, a week before it was supposed to be sold, Disney pulls it and won't tell us why? And now it might never be sold?

I think we all deserve some answers. It's beyond depressing when crap movies like Tomb Raider II get DVD editions while Ed Wood languishes in oblivion.

Summary: A Stroke Of Luck Bestowed This DVD Upon Me
Review: I got one a week ahead of schedule at an FYE. It is not necessary for me to praise this Hollywood gem as far as the movie itself.

The transfer is amazing. I have compressed and copied the movie to backup DVD+R so I don't have to play the original, and the compressed version looks as good as the original.

I wish I had some verified insight into the recall. I do not. I will say the DVD I bought works perfectly though, in contrast to another review. The interactive menu is very creative, mimicing a theater showing, with different 'film scenes' for each different menu.

There is also an Easter Egg in the form of a deleted scene. On 'Deleted Scenes' menu, highlight 'Que Sera Sera', then press right on your DVD remote 2 or 3 times to highlight the lightning bolt, and reveal the scene. The Lugosi special is neat. Actually shows the real photograph of Lugosi in the rehab as portrayed in the film. Maybe that has something to do with the recall?

Amazon.ca lists DVD release date as 4/4/04. I hope the rest of you get a chance to get this DVD, and I hope they don't change it on you. The entire DVD gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.

Summary: Give us our movie!!!!!
Review: I am beyond furious at Buena Vista for disregarding their buying public and yanking this dvd practically out of our hands so close to the release date without a reasonable explanation. All I'm hearing are rumours about why it was pulled, and I'm not sure I believe any of them. I did also read on Tim Burton's website that there is a new release date of April 27. Can anyone else substantiate this? I'd like to believe that, but at this point I'm not sure I'll believe anything.

Summary: it's out!!!
Review: Touchstone goofed and mistakenly sent out a limited number to an unspecified number of independent video stores!!! Or at least that's the story I got from the mom 'n' pop joint in Phoenix where I rented a copy of the special edition today! Great extras--deleted scene of Ed having dinner with Tor Johnson and his plus-size family is especially funny; I wonder why they cut it?
