Summary: Great 80s comedy
Review: This is a great little comedy from the 80s. It did a great job of capturing the hip and trendy at the time as well as using the tried and true conventions of amnesia and mistaken identities and the fish-out-of-water gag. The cast is so appealing here: Arquette and Quinn are adorable; Metcalfe and Wright are hillarious, and Madonna is Madonna and that is just perfect for this film. A great rainy day or pick-me-up film that has aged well for the 80s in the same way Doris & Rock did for the 60s.

Summary: Desperately Seeking Madonna
Review: This is indeed the Madonna movie. Madonna steals this movie straight out from under Rosanna Arquette's feet. With her utterly classic portrail of the spirited Susan, Madonna steals the entire film. The best thing is, Madonna was being Madonna! Rosanna Arquette stars as Roberta, the bored New Jersey housewife of hot tub salesman Garry Glass. Madonna plays Susan, who hooks up with a guy named Jimmy everytime he places an ad in the personals called "Desperately Seeking Susan." Roberta becomes utterly curious about Susan and decides to follow her to Battery Park where Susan is supposed to meet Jimmy. Roberta then follows Susan around, and buys her jacket that Susan has placed in the care of a thrift store salesman. Roberta then places a "Desperately Seeking Susan" ad in the personals herself. Here, Roberta conks her head, and thinks that she is Susan. A new love interest named Dez (Aiden Quinn) tries to help Roberta remember everything, but he thinks that Roberta is Susan! Susan, in the meantime, tries to help Garry find Roberta. She fishes through Roberta's personal things, and finds such books as "How To Be Your Own Best Friend," and "I'm Okay, You're Okay." Susan later finds out that Roberta thinks she's Susan. When Roberta finds out who she really is, hilarity continues to ensue. If you are a Madonna fan, or want to see a good screw ball comedy you are definately seeking "Susan"! This is a truly hilarious comedy, and one of the most original films in years!

Summary: A great look at New York City
Review: This is one of my favorite movie ever and i do believe that is maybe the most representative picture on the New York of the '80's.Watching it is like you live the life of that period. The story is about Roberta, a bored housewife who lives in Fort Lee and daydreams about Susan's life, a wanderer girl who keeps in contact with her boyfriend through the ads on the newspapers.Roberta has got the main chance to follow Susan in a beautiful walk trip from Battery Park through Manhattan's Lower East Side;equivocals by equivocals Roberta's life is meant to be changed for good.Roberta is played great by Rosanna Arquette who won a Bafta for her performance;Madonna gave us her best performance as Susan on her screen debut. The scene when Roberta,in the middle of her birthday party, goes out on the balcon to take a look at Manhattan island is extraordinary and let us understand all the gloom of her character.

Summary: Fabulous!
Review: This is possibly Madonna's greatest acting achievement. Most likely due to the similarities between herself and the character she played (Susan). I wouldn't recommend this just for Madonna fans, but anyone who enjoys 80s camp (is that an oxy moron?).

Summary: Not just a Madonna Movie!
Review: This movie epitomizes the giddiness of the New Wave-bohemian lifestyle of the 80's. I watched this movie as a teenager and was fascinated by the outlandish people and the New York City setting. Today I watch it and am struck by the ultimate sweetness of the characters, particularly Roberta (Rosanna Arquette-this really is her movie) and Dez (Aidan Quinn). Sure it's fantastical, but I think it is an excellent example of screwball, romantic comedy. It's the kind of movie I can watch again and again and it always seems fresh. The supporting actors are great including Laurie Metcalf as Roberta's uptight sister-in-law and John Turturro as a sleazy night club host. The acting is understated and not over the top- including Madonna, who just seemed to be reading her lines very carefully, but to good effect. Susan Seidelman did an excellent job at directing, too bad she has not done much more! The settings are great, giving you a taste of the East Village and it's suburban opposite Fort Lee, NJ. If you enjoy this movie I would highly recommend "After Hours" and "Something Wild" which are in the same NYC bohemian kind of vein, although a little darker in tone.

Summary: Timelessly 80s, I LOVE it!
Review: This movie is fascinating and transcendent. On the surface it might look like "another 80s movie" (and hey! what's wrong with that!?!), but a second or third or even fourth viewing shows just how applicable these life lessons are in today's fast paced world!
Highly recommended. If you liked Rocky 4, you'll love this one!

Summary: Madonna Shines in "Susan"
Review: This movie is possibly Madonna's best film ever, its closest competition being EVITA. As carefree, spirited Susan, Madonna shines in this seemingly tailor made role. Even though Madonna's Susan was technically a supporting role, she steals the whole show and really not with that much effort. Rosanna Arquette and Aidan Quinn are also worth mentioning for their performances. The film was hilarious and really showed Madonna as a force to be reckoned with in the world of Hollywood. Even though she didn't follow up her critically acclaimed performance with a more suitable role (Shanghai Surprise, UGHH) her talent shines through immensely in this keeper.

Summary: Madonna's Performance Gives Film Much Of Its Spark
Review: This movie was released in 1985 and was a huge box office hit thanks in main part to Madonna's overwhelming popularity at the time as the #1 musical artist of '85. Her performance in the film was probably her best on film, next to Evita and there really can't be a comparison since Evita was mostly singing and hardly any dialogue. Even though Madonna's role as Susan is a supporting role, she steals the spotlight as a kooky, free spirit who gets wrapped in a bad case of mistaken identity with a bored housewife who ends up with amnesia and wrongly believes she's Susan. Rosanna Arquette was really good also as was Aidan Quinn and Laurie Metcalfe who's hilarious as Roberta's sister in law. And for all those that say Madonna was playing herself, you couldn't be more wrong, Madonna was a bright and rising star with something to prove back then so of course her performance was going to be spectacular....

Summary: Wacky Fun!
Review: We rented Desperately Seeking Susan and I thought it was a cute wacky movie that was a lot of fun to watch and has a great cast that includes Maddona, Rosanna Arquette, Aidan Quinn and Laurie Metcalf. Rosanna Arquette plays a bored New Jersey housewife named Roberta who is interested in the personals ads she reads between a free-spirited woman from New York named Susan and a guy named Jim so when Roberta goes to New York to meet Susan she winds up getting hit on the head and she wakes up thinking she is actually Susan and gets herself into a lot of wacky situations. It's a fun movie and has great scenes of New York and I recommend this movie.
