Summary: I liked it; my kids didn't
Review: My kids (8 and 11) kept waiting for the funny parts - which never came. The 8-year-old enjoyed it more than the older one. The scene where the mother dies in a car crash is very graphic so beware. This was hard for us because we lost a grandmother this way. Other than that, I thought the whole thing was charming. While child actor did well, Gérard Depardieu is always the best thing about any movie he's in.

Summary: FIRST OFF, THE PERSON WHO
Review: OK, here's the movie in a nutshell. Albert lives in Vegas with his mom, who dies in a car accident. Albert has to go to New Jersey to live with a friend of his mom's who hasn't seen her in 15 years. This friend is one of those child-free people and likes it that way. While on the plane, Depardieu (Bogus) appears as an imaginary friend who keeps Albert company while he copes with all of this.

Without spoiling the rest of it, let me say that Haley Osment and Gerard Depardieu complemented each other as actors to an astounding degree. It was as if they had been acting together for decades - a bit like watching Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau. The fantasy scenes, particularly the one where Bogus serves Albert ice cream in an imaginary ice cream shop, make this movie particularly worth watching. I'm surprised it has taken this long to put Bogus on DVD.

Summary: WHOOPI GOLDBERG AS A BIGOT!
Review: The Whoopi Goldburg charter is disturbing to say the least. She wants nothing to do with Albert (Haley Joel Osment the little boy from THE SIXTH SENCE) because the kid is white. Turn it around for a moment, what would we say about a white woman who with holds love from a black kid because of the color of his skin? Are we suppose to think that Osment is responsible for the slave trade of one hundred fifty years ago?

The poor kid is dangling from a fire escape his life in danger. Any fan of THE SIXTH SENSE would rush out to save him in no time flat but not Goldburg. All she does is call out encouragement to him.

I kept hoping someone from Child Protective Services would show up to take poor Osment away from Goldburg but no such luck. I think the kid deserved much better!
