Summary: Great movie.
Review: I watched this movie maybe five times over the years. It is simple, but somehow gets to your heart. I just bought this dvd and watched it again. My favorite Belushi and Hamilton movie.
5 stars for the movie and 3 stars for the dvd issue: the picture is nice, though it shows some imperfection, and the sound is only ProLogic - the resolution is not up-to-date. But quite watchable all the same.

Summary: sticky sweet
Review: Interesting premise, gets bogged down in complete fantasy. Not even believable for what it is. Second half of the movie is out right ludicrous, with stale pollyannish dialogue. Belushi is one of the rare lights in this dim bulb of a film.

Summary: Don't Fight Your Destiny
Review: Is this movie trying to implying that it's bad to be a greedy, maniacal corporate leader without conscience or empathy? C'mon, get outta here. They could not possibly think THAT up in Hollywood, could they? Well, Mr. Destiny, played by Michael Caine, offers James Belushi a chance to be a wealthy corporate hot shot instead of a regular James. As you can imagine, it does not work our well for James. You know, self-loathing, John Lovitz (a friend) almost commits suicide--the usual stuff. The movie has funny moments, and the pace is pretty good. The ending is somewhat predictable, James is happy to be a regular James (again). It's not all about the money. I don't blame him, I wouldn't wanna be a Kenneth Lay either.

Summary: BELUSHI IS UNDERRATED
Review: JIM BELUSHI IS AN EXCELLENT COMEDIC ACTOR.FROM ''REAL MEN'' TO ''TAKIN CARE OF BUSINESS''TO ''MR.DESTINY''.I DONT KNOW WHY HE DOES'NT DO MANY FILMS ANYMORE BUT HE SHOULD.ALSO RENE RUSSO IS IN THIS AND DAMN WAS SHE FINE.SHE IS STILL HOT BUT BACK THEN GOOD LORD.ALSO THE FILM HAS KATHY IRELAND,COURTNEY COX,LINDA HAMILTON AND JON LOVITZ.TRULY FUNNY,IN MY OPINION BETTER THAN IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great movie.
Review: Jim Belushi is terrific as the "Average Joe" who gets his 15 minutes in "The Twilight Zone". Michael Cane is the mysterious bar tender who not only listens to Belushi's "story", but has a "cure" for all of Belushi's middle class problems: A magic potion to bring about an avalanche of changes in Belushi's life.

Flashbacks show a 15 year old horribly ashamed of causing his High School Baseball Team's Championship defeat. Belushi goes on with his "pitiful life", seemingly happy, but always wondering "what if..." For what seems to be several days, Belushi experiences a "different" life, one of enormous success, admired and hated by others in equal measure.

This is not quite "It's A Wonderful Life", but some elements are similar, and very endearing. The "ending" is predictable, but still satisfying. Watch for a very young Cortney Cox in a bit part as "fatal attraction" -like other woman. A very pleasant film!****

Summary: Belushi's destiny
Review: Larry Burrows(James Belushi) is an office worker who has a disasterous 35th birthday. He didn't have his Wheaties for breakfast. He had no coffee at work(the supply of water and coffee grounds were both exhausted). What really haunts him is a mistake he made when he was 15. He missed hitting a baseball, the most important of all,at a little league game. So Larry walks into a bar run by a guardian angel(Michael Caine). The guardian angel turns Larry's life around. In the dream sequence,Larry sees his now-ex-wife with a new husband and children of their own. He meets his newly divorced father with his(the father's) new girlfriend. Also he tries to get into his house to find out it's now owned by a mean-spirited fella. One of Larry's co-workers(Jon Lovitz) has been Larry's pal since childhood. They reminisce about seeing "Bonnie & Clyde" in the movie theaters eight times. Another one of Larry's co-workers is a scam artist who later confessed to his wrongdoing and was terminated. Best of all,Larry has a 35th birthday party at his home. Out of the dream sequence,Larry and his wife Ellen(Rene Russo) are still married. In an earlier scene, when the Burrowses were kids,Ellen hands Larry a handkerchief with her embroidered initials on it. They read EJR which stands for Ellen Jane Ripley. Larry,in his baseball uniform, shed a few tears after his failure to hit that important baseball. Great film!

Summary: Go forward with your life!
Review: Mr. Destiny is not only fun entertainment, it deals with the question every person asks at some time in their life: How would my life be different now if only I had....? James Belushi charmingly plays the man who lost his job, and finds himself wishing he could change his past and start over. He finds his chance to do just that after a little magical intervention by Mr. Destiny (Michael Caine). With just one change in his past...from losing the big baseball game, to winning it, Belushi's life takes a different path. Suddenly plopped into his new life, with a different wife and a different job, he encounters many troublesome adventures...humorous for the viewer, but disastrous for Belushi. Just at the point of hopelessness, Mr. Destiny intervenes again, but I won't give away anymore of the plot here. I loved Belushi's character... in spite of his troubles, he confronts all situations with grace and humor. The movie is sweet, funny, and even carries an encouraging message: Don't regret the past, but go forward and make the best of what you've got!

Summary: "Swung too late?"
Review: Only James Belushi can take a formula story and turn it into a fun to watch script. Even when you know how it will turn out in the end, the details and how they evolve are fun to watch over and over. And there is a great supporting cast. You could tell where this movie was going when Jewel Jagger (Courteney Cox) threatens to fork Larry Burrows (James Belushi) to death.
Larry Burrows is unhappy with his life and pins most of it on the fact that he swung too late and misses t the ball in a game and in life. Michael Caine as Mr. Destiny gives Larry a new chance be the person he wanted to be. But will he like his new life?

The soundtrack is still available Mr. Destiny (1990 Film)
