Summary: Down to Earth Can Wait
Review: This movie was horrible. I generally think Chris Rock is funny, and I do like Eugene and Chaz. Chris Rock plays a man who went to Heaven before he was supposed to (a schedule mix up) and goes back to Earth into an old rich white man's body while he waits for a body he likes better. Of course, everyone thinks he's strange because he makes all these black jokes and likes rap, but to them he looks like an old white man who was not paying his maids enough. The actual line of the story seems funny, but some how Chris Rock makes it one of the worst movies. In the movie, the rich man (Chris Rock) starts to do good with his money while trying to find romance. This part is just weird and he doesn't really do much good. It wasn't realistic and you could tell when Chris Rock was about to make a joke. The jokes, by the way, were not funny. This movie seemed like it took forever to finish watching (I kept hoping it would get better since I waited for it to come out on rental) and I was relieved when it was over. The best part about the movie was how every time they changed scenes they kept playing the same snippet of "Everything is Everything" by Lauren Hill. Save your money and rent/buy something else.

Summary: CHRIS ROCKS!!!!!!! THE MOVIE [IS BAD]
Review: What do you get when you take a legendary comedian like Chris Rock, put him in a movie, and then dump 20 tons of stupid on him?
You get a seriously UNfunny comedy and Chris trying to dig his way out, struggling to breathe all the way. What's sad about this is that Chris' career had been more or less spotless prior to this, thanks to his work on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. This was supposed to be the film to make Chris more accessible to his younger fans, but if theyr'e smart, they'll take one lokk at this and just dispise Chris. I didn't,only because of the funny material he's filled his resume with. The "plot" of the film centers on a comedian, who(unlike Chris)is completely unable to make people laugh. He dies in a truck accident, but later discovers that he was taken up to heaven a split second too soon, so the proper authorities allow him to live out the rest of his life on earth, but apparently, the only body available is a fat, old, rich white dude. Believe me, it's just too hard to believe that this dude's body is the only one available out of 6 BILLION people on earth. Oh sure, you could use the defense that people taken before their time after hogging all the bodies, but just how often are people taken too early. Even more mistifying is why Chris couldn't just hop back into his own body. The only thing worth watching in the movie is Chris, but since he didn't write the material, he's not to blame for the fact that is just plain NOT FUNNY. And that about sums up the movie.

Summary: A brilliant example of a well written comedy
Review: What if heaven had a mix-up and you found yourself dead 50 years before you were supposed to be? Well, that's what happens to Lance Boston (Chris Rock) in this amiable comedy. Lance is a stand-up comic who is on the verge of his big break when he pops his clogs. As compensation, of sorts, he is returned to earth, but -much to his horror- in the body of a fat old white guy. And what's more, the girl he's in love with now wants nothing to do with him. Comedian Rock had made a good job of moving from stand-up comedy to movie acting and brings a lot if energy with him. It's not subtle, but it is funny.

Summary: Tepid Remake Doesn't Make Full Use of Chris Rock
Review: You could see what Chris Rock was holding back in several scenes in this movie. If he had had a better screenplay, he would have let rip and this would have been the comedy hit of the year. Those scenes were the ones where it was made clear to you that Rock was really an older, rich white guy who was doing a black man's comedy act. When Warren Beatty made his version of this film (prior to the Rock version), he played it as a straight romantic comedy. It was very cute. However, he is not a comic and so there was no subplot of his being a guy who was trying to make it in standup comedy. By making standup the Rock character's career, it changed the whole thrust of the film yet held Rock back on a leash where you were dying to see his stuff but couldn't. A lot of film time is spent instead on the romance which is pretty much a foregone conclusion if you've seen the prior two versions of this film, which I have.
