Summary: Pretty dull and silly
Review: I think this movie would have been really funny if the white character (the billionaire) appears more and acts like a black person. I cracked up when he was rapping. Unfortunately, all you see is Chris Rock acting as himself, trying so hard to be charming, but can't do it. I couldn't find myself laughing at any of his jokes or acts. On top of that, the female character is not at all attractive. This movie has nothing special, and I'm glad I didn't see it in the theater. I gave it 2 stars for 'nice try'.

Summary: Good Comdey
Review: I went to this, when it first opened and today, I didn't mind watching this twice, it's a good movie. Chris Rock was, very funny. The directors who made, this directed 1999's Hit American Pie. Go see this.

Summary: A Disappointment for Chris Rock fans
Review: I'm a big fan of Chris Rock and I was truly disappointed by this film. So disappointed, in fact, that I took the time to write this review even though I only rented the video, didn't buy it (thank goodness!).

The humor in this film is mediocre at best, and most of the time the jokes are just dumb. The sad part is that Chris Rock himself helped write the script. Maybe Chris needs a while before he can become a successful writer on the big screen.

I recall from the movie trailers that they played up to the fact that Rock's character comes back as an older white guy. It was advertised as a major component of the plot. Well, you are lucky to even see this white guy for more that 5 minutes total throughout the entire film. The premise is supposed to be that when Rock looks in the mirror, he sees himself, but to everyone else, he looks like this old white guy. Most of the time in the movie, you see Rock, even when he is interacting with other people. Remember, they are supposed to be seeing an old white guy, but all we see is Rock.

Another major angle of the plot is that Rock's character strikes up a romance with a young African-American female. This would be completely believable...if it were Rock. But, again, his character is supposed to look like an old white guy. Although the movie is based on fantasy, it's a REAL stretch to think some young black chick would fall for this old white guy. His actions prior to Rock taking over his body made the chick supremely mad at him. So, she suddenly changes her attitude about the guy, to the point of falling in love with him??

In closing, let me say that I'm a BIG Chris Rock fan, and it was just plain sad to see him associated with such a lame film. Let's hope his next screen writing project works out much better.

Summary: Chris Rock brings great laughs
Review: In "Down to Earth" Chris Rock gets hit by a bus and his guardian angel accidentally takes him to Heaven 44 years too soon, so he gets to come back in a body loaned out to him. Unfortunately, the body happens to belong to a old rich white guy. I found this movie to be rather hilarious, enriched with plenty of jokes about your stereotypical rich white guy suddenly loving hiphop. If you are not one to be offensive with race humor, then you will enjoy this movie. Sitting in the theater, it became apparent that the people familiar with the hiphop culture found this movie to be way more enjoyable then the people not. Many times while I, being a huge fan of hiphop, was laughing hard, many were staring at the screen, just not quite getting it. One fault I saw with the movie was that it was difficult to remember that Chris Rock is supposed to the old white guy. Despite that, the movie was very funny and enjoyable, as long as you're not looking for a big, interesting plot. This movie is not about that, but the way I see it, sometimes you need to watch something just for fun, and this is definately it.

Summary: F U N N Y ! C H R I S R O C K R U L E S!
Review: In Down to Earth, Chris Rock plays as a black comedian who after he gets killed is reincarnated into the body of a supposed dead white guy and falls in love with a black woman who only sees him as the white guy. Now some might say that's pretty weird, but it's a funny remake of the movie "Heaven Can Wait". Some might say that Rock uses a lot of bad language, but in this film he doesn't even cuss that much. A very funny movie, that is worth owning on DVD! Buy this movie now!

Summary: Weak effort all the way around
Review: It is hard to understand why Paramount even released this movie. Either the actors were just looking to collect a check or the director had better things to do. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I gave it one star because this format wouldn't let me give it a zero.

Summary: Very few new things in this film
Review: It's clear this is the n-th version of "Heaven Can Wait". As a remake, not many new things could arise in this film.

There are some new things, of course. Some of them are quite reasonably different: the story in this case is about a black man living in the Bronx; the return to Earth is due to the chase of a girl and so this is sort of a (then again) romantic comedy.

But some other things make me feel really dazzed. Heaven is... Las Vegas? Gatekeepers seem to be... like gangsters? And the highest expectation of the main character is... to be a great comedy club man? (and of course not to be booed every time he is acting).

The romantic moments are given by Chase Rock, but the great comedy moments are for Chazz Palmintieri. At least, his appearance makes this film not to deserve a lower rating.

You can have a good afetrnoon at home with this film, but don't expect so much of it.

Summary: A bad movie (bad meaning bad).
Review: Now I think Chris Rock is a good comedian. I enjoy him in most of his roles, but this movie STUNK!!!!! The ascting was [bad] and predictable. Where did the script come from..Scripts R Us ? Reginia King was the best thing in the movie and I am not a fame of hers at all. The story didn't match the trailer. You go into the movie thinking that you will see Chris interchanging a lot with the white character he was supposed to be. That happened about three times...maybe. [....]

Summary: Chris Rock playing an old, white billionaire?
Review: Once again, I've discovered that you can't go wrong with a Chris Rock movie. His style and character would make even Titanic hilarious.

In this remake of the 1978 film, Heaven Can Wait, Rock plays Lance Barton, a determined young comedian who's accidentally dragged off to heaven forty years before his time. To make up for the mistake, he's allowed to go back to earth -- reincarnated as Charles Wellington, a fifty-year-old white billionaire. Wellington's family and colleagues are stunned to see the change in him as he becomes more charitable -- and much more attracted to rap music. To their surprise, he even buys a comedy club -- so he can practice his act.

Down to Earth is definitely good for a few laughs. It's worth the rental price just to watch Wellington bustin' a move to Snoop Dogg. And there's even a sweet, romantic side to the movie -- but don't worry... it's easy to ignore.
