Summary: This set should be free.
Review: Full price for Slap Shot? No problem. Great movie. However, I'm not sure how much would be enough to make me sit through Slap Shot 2 again. $20? No. $50? No. $100? Maybe, but I better be gettin' free beer with it. And by the way, how is it that somebody gets stoned enough to say "Let's put Stephen Baldwin in a movie." I need some of that.

Summary: Can't Beat The Original
Review: I love the original Slap Shot to death. Behind all the violence and swearing and sex jokes the movie is truly a classic. (For more details about the original read my review.)
But this review is more about this two movie pack. Therefore I need to focus on the sequal. It has Stephen Baldwin and Gary Busey as the stars. That should tell you something immediately. The plot follows the Charelstown Chiefs (Who still have the notorious Hanson Brothers) as they are sold to Gary Busey's media conglomerate. The plan is turn the Chiefs into the losers of traveling hockey show, like the Harlem Globetrotters. Eventually they get fed up with having to play the patsies and mutiny in a glorious hockey game where they change jerseys. Its like Mighty Ducks 2, but with a whole lot more swearing.
Characters are still pretty generic compared to the cast of the 1977 classic. The Hansons are there, and still very funny. There's a very neurotic goalie, a womanizing player, and the young kid looking to make it to the NHL. In addition, there's the new woman coach, which is a bit of a reference to the fact that the original was written by a woman. There are also several referances to classic lines from the original, like the Pinwheel and several of the Hanson's lines are repeats. (But still funny)
Main difference between the movies: Slap Shot was more about the psychos who played the sport back in the day. Not so much about what went on in a game, but what is making these guys act like this off the ice. That's the reason for introducing the opposing players from the original. Ogie Oglethorpe, "Dr. Hook" McCracken, "Poodle" Lucie, and all their backstories were what the movie was about. The players not the play. Slap Shot 2 takes a different approach. There's lots of real looking hockey in the movie. That's where the main action happens. Their opponents are "snot-nosed punks" who don't believe in the old style hockey that the Chiefs believe in. That's the real reason why this movie can't hold a candle to the original. The heart is not there.
So this DVD det gets three stars. The only reason I won't score lower is because it comes with the first movie. It just gets dragged down by Stephen Baldwin and Slap Shot 2. Save some money and buy the original on its own.
