Summary: Mammothly Worse Than The Original
Review: Hate mail poured in like a bottle of maple syrup when I trashed the original 1980 "Caddyshack" as an overpraised, overhyped, and overrated excuse of a comedy. Considering the not-so-great history of sequels, did I really expect "Caddyshack 2" to be any better? Even fans of the original contempuously turned their nose at this mess of a movie, putting the final nail in the coffin of a comedy franchise that should have never have started to begin with. There, I said it! Now let the hate mail begin. Bring it on.

Summary: A Compelling Argument Against Sequel Movies
Review: I absolutely loved the original "Caddyshack" from beginning to end. If I had to choose the top 10 comedy motion pictures of all time, it would definitely be on my list.....and then there's "Caddyshack 2".

This sequel picture brings none of the characters from the original "Caddyshack" back except for the gopher-and even he has gotten a little full of himself. The acting is terrible all the way around. Jackie Mason is not funny (and in my opinion, never was), Robert Stack eschewed whatever dignity he had left when he agreed to take the part of a snobbish country-clubber, and one gets the impression that Dyan Cannon is only there for window dressing-or to make a few bucks. Dan Ackroyd was somewhat funny, but that doesn't redeem this worthless, bloated carcass of a movie in any respect.

I'd give that fetid piece of dung of a motion picture zero stars if I could. Since I can't, the only thing I can say to prospective viewers is to avoid this one at all costs!

Review: I can't blame Mrs. Mikels. She didn't know.

She didn't know what I knew, didn't hear what I heard: that this sequel to the delightful and deliciously wicked "Caddyshack" was one of Hollywood's all-time duds (and that's saying something). She only knew that I love the original, so when she came across CADDYSHACK II at the local video mart she snatched it up gleefully, thinking she had scored a comedic coup for her irresistible fuzzball hubby.

Sorry, honey. If this movie was on the food chain, it wouldn't even be edible for the bottom feeders. Weakly attempting to recreate the "snobs vs. slobs" confrontation that made its predecessor so successful, this film is an utter embarrassment from its opening frame (and from there, it gets worse). It's about as funny as a 500-word accountant's joke; as funny as an episode of South Park without profanity; as funny as "Girls Gone Wild" at a YMCA. This movie is so "unfunny" it's. . .not even funny.

Chevy Chase portrays his character like a guy caught hiding in the ladies' restroom; Jackie Mason never has been--nor ever will be--funny; Robert Stack looks like he was filming a laxative commercial; Randy Quaid acts like he used too much laxative. On the other hand, Dyan Cannon is hot, but that's just me. I did get a kick out of all the "big hair" from the Eighties. I got even more of a kick when I bounced this disc off the cathedral ceiling, against the far wall, and neatly into the waste basket (with a little backboard action). Even Mrs. Mikels applauded that.

Summary: What in the world were these people thinking???
Review: I don't want to sound too mean here, but I've got a feeling that Rodney Dangerfield died happily knowing that he wasn't a part of this movie.

I mean, why did they even bother calling it Caddyshack 2? It has virtually nothing to do with the first movie. It doesn't even take place at the same club. Sure, Chevy Chase's character returns for a very brief scene, but that's about the only thing that links Caddyshack 2 to the original Caddyshack.

Maybe I love the first movie so much that it would have been impossible for me to love this one. Nah, on second thought, that's not true at all. This here movie could have been a LOT better than it was.

If they had called this something other than Caddyshack 2, it may have been bearable to watch. It has a couple of okay moments in it. Still, it was called Caddyshack 2 just to cash in on the success of the original movie. I can't blame the movie company for wanting to make more big bucks, but they should have invested some more bucks in a better script - one that at least tried to follow in the footsteps of the original movie.

As it was, Caddyshack 2 may have had a couple of okay moments in it, but it never should have been called Caddyshack 2. That was disrespectful to the original film (which is a true comedy classic)and to the fans of the original.

Summary: EXCELLENT SEQUEL
Review: I know comedy and this film is funny. Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid shine together in this film. I don't know why people have given the film such a hard time. Okay there's not a Shakespearian story line or a Titanic with special effects but it does deliver slapstick old fashioned comedy

Summary: It's Good If You Don't Compare It To The First Movie
Review: I know that I am in the definite minority here, but I like this movie. The only problem in this movie for me is Dan
Akyroid(spell?) He is very annoying, stupid, and not funny, and he is the reason I give this movie 4 stars, instead of 5. I like this movie very much. I know it doesn't even compare to the first, "Caddyshack," which is one of my favorite movies, but don't compare it to the first movie and, "Caddyshack II," is good. If you can watch this movie for what it is, and stop comparing it to the first, "Caddyshack," movie you will see that this movie is not so bad after all.

Summary: Good lord...
Review: I thankfully did not waste my money on this awful sequel(possibly the worst sequel to a good movie). I saw it on Comedy Central. I mourn every day for those of you who either bought, rented, or traded something else in for this waste of resources. Nothing beats Caddyshack 1, but they could have at least made a decent attempt to in Caddyshack 2.

Summary: Surprisingly great (call the insane asylum if you must)
Review: I'm going to break the seemingly endless streak of spiteful reviews here. I thought this was as good, if not (gasp) even better than the original, even if most of the original cast is gone. This time, Jackie Mason plays Jack Hartounian, a middle-aged wise-cracking but well-meaning Jewish guy. His daughter Kate wants him to join Bushwood, an exclusive Country Club filled with snobby members, who reject his membership. Robert Stack (the Unsolved Mysteries host) is Chandler Young, the club president. At first they get along, but before long, Chandler has him kicked out of the club. Along the way Jack also has a love interest, Elizabeth, another club member (Dyan Cannon, who was 51 when this was filmed!).

How this started is Jack wants to build some apartments near the golf course. Longtime club members oppose this and don't want any 'blue-collar bums' moving in. In one hilarious scene Jack's lawyer Peter Blunt (Randy Quaid) goes crazy and starts yelling and threatening Chandler's also snobby son Todd, and another lawyer. This sets the wheels in motion for them to be permanently against Jack and deny his membership.

In a desperate move, Jack pays a visit to Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) who returns from the original. He's again likable but a little dimwitted. The two of them are friends. Ty is at least part owner of Bushwood. Jack buys the club and that's when the fun really begins. He turns it into a full length amusement park/golf course, with many things you'd see in Miniature golf (i.e. windmills, doors that open and close). This change gets Kate angry at him, since she liked the Country Club aspect as opposed to 'Coney Island'.

Meanwhile, Chandler isn't done yet. He meets up with Tom Everett (Dan Aykroyd) a Roach Coach driver, with some kind of classified military background. He talks in a higher-pitched, kind of whiny voice (which makes it funnier, at least I think) he's not that bright though. After Everett accidently blows up Chandler's Rolls Royce instead of Jack's (they were both white), the two sides do a final battle by playing a good ol' 18 holes against each other.

This movie also co-stars the cute but also snobby Miffy Young as Kate's friend and Chandler's daughter. This is really noteworthy because she's played by Chynna Philips, just barely before Wilson-Philips hit big (anyone remember "Hold On"?)I already know I'm in the minority, but I obviously love this film. I thought the plot was pretty easy to understand, whereas the first took a few times to get everything. The jokes were less complicated too. I actually saw this one first, so I wasn't comparing it to the original.
