Rating: Summary: More like two-and-a-half stars Review: I couldn't quite tell if I liked this movie or not. Basically, it has its good points and its bad points. Obviously, the good points keep me from hating the movie, but its numerous bad points keep me from wholly recommending it . . .The good points: (1) Jason Lee is really good, as always. (2) For once, Jason Mewes plays a character who's not a complete stoner goofball, and he does a pretty good job of it. It's certainly interesting to see him doing something different. (3) If you're a ViewAskew fan, you'll like seeing some of the other ViewAskew regulars in roles of varying sizes. Renee Humphreys (from "Mallrats") has a starring role, and Joey Lauren Adams, Kevin Smith, and Scott Mosier all do cameos. (4) Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's introduction to the movie is hilarious. (5) The movie is the first feature by Matthew Gissing and Malcolm Ingram, and it has a rough, black-and-white, "Clerks"-ish feel that's appealing. (6) The film does generate some suspense, and the ending has elements of mild surprise. The bad points: (1) Aside from the two Jasons, the performances are nothing spectacular. In particular, Carmen Llewellyn Lee (Jason Lee's then-wife) can barely act at all. (2) The movie uses a lot of obscenities, which ordinarily I don't have a problem with, but in this case I felt like they were substituting for real emotion and obscuring weak dialogue. (3) The plot is implausible. Jason Lee has visions that cause him to lead his friends on a quest into the wilds of British Columbia, but the visions themselves are so silly it's hard to believe anyone would take them seriously. (4) The action and setting are reminiscent of "The Blair Witch Project"--not the fault of the moviemakers since this film was finished well before that one came out. Still, you may get the feeling that you've seen this before. My local video store didn't have any DVD copies, so I was forced to rent the VHS cassette. I have no doubt that the audio commentary on the DVD is really interesting, and obviously fans of Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, ViewAskew, or all of the above (like me) will want to see this movie, or maybe even own it, regardless of its overall quality. It is great that Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are supporting aspiring filmmakers. I just hope Gissing and Ingram have learned from this experience and make a better movie next time.
Rating: Summary: I Loved this movie! Review: I know it's a little odd but I think this may be a little better than CLERKS. Drawing has some great yet bizarro humor (Bizarro from selab). The movie also has a directors cut and theatrical version so that way you can see both great features. Just in case you wanna know, the movie is about a guy who is on the verge of having a nervous break down (or losing his, I can't tell which) and then he decides to look for bigfoot, so he lies to his friends and says that there is a cabin where his Grandfather lives but it is in the middle of the wood. The movie is jam packed with laughs. If you life Kevin you love this movie. If you like bizarre humor, you'll love this movie.
By the way, Jason Mewes is in this movie you know Jay from Clerks.
Rating: Summary: Finally Review: I saw this at a film festival a while ago, and I am really excited that the DVD is finally coming out. Great film, and Jason Lee is great in it.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have for ViewAskew Fans.... Review: If you are not a fan of Kevin Smith or ViewAskew you will likely not appreciate this film. Though Kevin Smith was just a producer on 'Drawing Flies', practically the whole 'Mallrats' cast is here (including a cameo appearance by Silent Bob himself). The movie has the feel of 'Clerks' but, not nearly as sharp or smart. On first viewing I was rather disappointed with the film but, on subsequent viewings I have grown to really enjoy it. The DVD commentary with the cast is excellent.
Rating: Summary: Clever, bizarre and a lot of fun Review: If you're looking for a textbook definition of how to make a movie, this is not the place to go. The direction is pretty poor, the cuts are terrible and the transfer on the disc is sub-par at best. But the story is a LOT of fun. Jason Lee heads up a cast of mostly View Askew regulars (including the woefully underused Renee Humphrey and a cameo by the always-beautiful Joey Lauren Adams) on a trek deep into the woods of Vancouver. To say any more would be to give away too much, but suffice it to say this movie gets weirder with every scene. The strength of the film lies in a really good cast working with a totally off-the-wall script. If you can stand some of the poorer technical aspects, it's a movie worth watching. (And let's face it, "Clerks" wasn't exactly a directoral masterpiece either.) This movie is especially nice for View Askew fans for the chance to see Jason Mewes play a character other than Jay for a change.
Rating: Summary: a waste of time Review: This film is a bit like "blair witch" meets "clerks". Unfortunately, it's the worst of both worlds. The film fails at having any sort of suspense or real drama, and at the same time fails to have any witty dialogue so characteristic of view askew's most famous film: "clerks". The story is razor thin and uninteresting. The characters, despite being played by those well known to Kevin Smith fans (e.g. Jason Mewes), are undeveloped and pretty dull. If you do insist on wasting your time, at least save your money. If you're a big Kevin Smith fan who just have to see this, go rent it - save your money for a movie worth watching twice.
Rating: Summary: A novelty to own, at best Review: This film is often billed as the "lost" View Askew film. Despite the production credit, make no mistake, this is not the kind of material you'd get from Kevin Smith. While it's kind of cool to own another movie that has all your favorite Kevin Smith alumni, this film has none of the clever dialogue or hilarity you'll be expecting. The plot is basically nil, and the entire movie seems a sad excuse to show people sitting around smoking copious amounts of weed. Jason Lee's performance is great, considering the writing he has to work with, but his then wife's performance (Carmen Lee) takes [her attitude] to a whole new level. If it's really cheap and you want it for the novelty of having the "lost" View Askew film, then go for it. Just don't expect to be entertained in the least.
Rating: Summary: Jason Lee makes this one sizzle Review: this is a good movie...probably my favorite of Jason Lee's movies because his character in this movie is so fun and you just like him...also starring Renee Humphrey..Carmen Lee..a cameo by silent bob himself, Kevin Smith and the jaymyster Jason Mewes.I recommend this movie for the fans of the clerks and chasing amy creators and stars..a not to be missed movie
Rating: Summary: More Askew than the normal View Review: This movie has a great cast, you'll recognize SEVERAL View Askew regulars. The dialogue is interesting, the special features are informative, and the plot is just completely BIZARRE. I have watched it twice, so that has to say something...worth the buy for View Askew fans and supporters.
