Review: In my slow-growing DVD collection, this is definitely one of my favorites. The script (written by Steve Martin) is hillarious. The movie pokes Hollywood in the ribs, knocking everything from using sex to get ahead to scientology. Steve Martin's Bobby Bowfinger is as lovable as he is stupid. Eddie Murphy pulls off another multiple-role performance very successfully, giving my friends and I new catch-phrases to run into the ground. Heather Graham is so hot in this movie, and her acting (dis)abilities work just fine in portraying a "naive" midwestern girl with stars in her eyes. Overall, it's a real hoot. Lots of laughs and just enough plot to keep the viewer involved.

The DVD itself is pretty slick, too. It's packed with features, including some great outtakes.

A great purchase for any Martin or Murphy fan.

Summary: 5 STAR SUPER SMART CLASSIC COMEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This film was outrageously hilarious. It had absolutely funny parts, and wickedly funny flicks. The story plot was extremely clever and thought out. Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy are two of the best funny, hilarious, legendary skilled comedians/actors that are a laughing crowd pleasing team in this movie.

Summary: This movie has balls!
Review: After watching this movie, I admit that I really enjoyed how it poked fun of the industry and how they pulled the movie off. Of course, it's a little far fetched but people try to do this. Even the director Frank Oz says he once did something similar to this.

One of the reasons I love this movie is because you get two talented comedians and you watch as they improvise a lot of the dialogue. Also, the director's commentary was very interesting to listen to.

The DVD features many cool things such as outtakes, deleted scenes and a featurette. Also, it's a bonus when you get digital 5.1 and DTS on the same DVD. Bravo!

The colors are very beautiful and the audio is good for a dialogue movie.

A very cool and funny movie to watch! What's not to like about a movie that pokes fun at the industry right?

Summary: Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin Rule
Review: Looking at the reviews, it seems most people were expecting too much. My older brother told me, he didn't think it was special (he thought LA Story was beter) but my younger brother told me it was the best movie in a long time. I finally just bought the DVD. It is Awesome! It is not a so much as an equal collaboration between Eddie and Steve but seems more like a Steve Martin movie with Eddie Murphy in it.(which it is...Martin wrote the script). Martin character isn't as crazy as he is in some movies but the script and Murhpy's acting more than make up for the fact. These two should do another movie!

Summary: Modern Hollywood bashing classic
Review: In the tradition of Mel Brooks' recently film turned Broadway "The Producers", Lloyd Kaufman's "Terror Firmer" and Robert Townsend's "Hollywood Shuffle", "Bowfinger" gives a hilarious look at how dysfunctional Hollywood really is. I really believe the character Bobby Bowfinger was Steve Martin's homage to Kaufman and the late Ed Wood, with the tone of the exaggerated premises that take place. And Eddie Murphy, one of the great comedians of our time, always plays characters in his films with his own original unique characterization. But in thsi film, Murphy shows his true acting ability by playing characters that are nothing like his persona (but in a way they are because of his ability.) As Kit Carlson he plays the diluted self-absorbed millionaire pampered action star, and him being black makes this character even more hilarious. It garners one of my favorite lines, "Shakespeare? Oh, I see...shake a spear, spearchucker, you're calling me a spearchucker in my own house."---Carlson spouts at his agent before firing a gun in paranoid anger. Of coarse it turns out Carlson is really crazy, causing him to be a client at Mindhead(screenwriter Steve Martin's inside jab at Hollywood stars who worship the Church of Scientology.) He sees aliens and wants to "show it to the Laker girls". This of coarse is a perfect set up for Bobby Bowfinger's attempt to shoot the movie by just running up to poor Carlson and filming aliens, gunfights, car chases, and other key elements needed to make a low-budget action film like this. Murphy's other character, the Gump-ish twin to Kit, is also great because unlike his other multi-character films like "Nutty Professor" Murphy plays another character (more in the Peter Sellers tradition)instead of another carciture of his comedy persona. The freeway crossing scene is one of the great moments in comedy history. The additional features alsogive you a feel of what message Steve Martin was trying to get across, and he definitely knows what he's doing. Martin, besides being one of the most unappreciated playwrights there is today, has written probably the best script since his classic "The Jerk" This film definitely inhibits that same demented sensibility. Definitely a comedy classic that will hold over time.

Summary: Martin's back... with the grace of a panther.
Review: A truly inspiring film which has lauched Steve Martin's career, firmly back into Hollywood and the auidience's hearts. Martin has found this gem to be a Hollywood bargining chip, like many actors before him, Travolta (Pulp Fiction), Connery (The Rock), Costner (Message In A Bottle); Following his self-critised performance as Sergeant Bilko, in the film adaptation of the popular TV series.

Martin took time out from the limelight and concentrated on his writings... not only for film but also stage. This new script was in the pipeline for a while but it has certainly proved worthy of the wait. The story tells of a miserably failing Hollywood film producer, in an unescapable valley of his career. He knows all the tricks in the book, shortcut is just a middle name, but suddenly he comes upon a discovery that will rock his life and career back into existance... a coffee boy who just might look like someone famous. The two lookalikes are played magnificently by Eddie Murphy, who has the comic timing that I haven't seen since his outings as the Beverly Hills Cop. Martin's character then proceeds to shoot the film his accountant has written, entitled 'Chubby Rain'... The story of an alien invasion... their method of travel... the rain drops! Genius!

The film has a wonderful array of characters, that all have an evolution, if you wish; From the greedy film producer with ethics, the paranoid actor, the innocent actress, the non-industry wannabe and not forgetting the unknown face of the future... Through the film, Martin wished to portray the industry as he saw it; An adventure with unmissable characters.

The DVD features are quality, from the fantastic outtakes, actor notes, and a great commentary! Scenes not to be missed: The Recuitment Drive and The Finale. These scenes in particular are pure comic genius, and as described in the commentary, the finale was changed to the existing one... from a dull light at the end of a tunnel, glossy ending, to a superbly IMPROVISED (by Martin and Murphy) action scene.

If you haven't seen this film then you must, but just put her credit card back afterwards... alright?

Summary: This Is a Great Flick
Review: In "Bowfinger", Steve Martin plays a wanna-be film maker with a small group of dimwitted followers, destined to make a movie as his dream come true. The problem is he can't find any actor willing to take part in his scripts, until he devises a plan that he's sure will put 'Bowfinger Productions' on the charts. Eddie Murphy plays a popular Hollywood actor named Kit Ramsey, who struggles with psychological problems and has a slight hatred for white people. Martin feeds his collegues the idea that Murphy agreed to do his alien movie called 'Chubby Rain', but doesnt want to meet the crew or even see the video camera. Murphy begins to lose whatever is left of his sanity when strange people start coming up to him on the street with talk of aliens coming to Earth. Little by little, Martin's crew pieces together footage of them unknowingly driving Murphy out of his mind...all the while thinking that they are making the greatest movie ever with America's hottest star. If anyone deserves the bulk of the credit, it's Eddie Murphy for his hilarious performance as the unstable Kit Ramsey, and his nerdy brother Jiff. The movie drew little attention when first released, which is surprising considering Murphy's incredible comedic role. The movie was done perfectly and I think the very original idea should bring more people to watch. I give this movie 5 stars for what is probably THE funniest film of the 90s.

Summary: A Comic Masterpiece
Review: The beginning was boring and dragged. But once the storyline really began- unlimited laughing potential! Heather Graham was great as Daisy, the vixen who used her femininity to get the role as the leading lady. There was a wonderful performance from Christine Baranski as a has-been, formerly well-known, movie star. Eddie Murphy is, as usual, hilarious in his duo roles as the famous action actor Kit Ramsey, as well as his nerdy, gullible twin brother, Jiff. Steve Martin shines as the Unknown Producer, who becomes worried as he nears fifty without ever having made a movie. He decided to make his movie with Kit Ramsey in it, even after he is rejected by him. So Bowfinger (the producer) decided to shoot the movie without telling Kit about it. This makes the already-paranoid Kit even more neurotic, because actors often come up to him talking about "alien love" and other elements of the movie, "CHUBBY RAIN." Overall, this was an amazingly hilarious movie. It starts out slow, but stick with it!

Summary: Funniest film I've seen in ages!
Review: Steve Martin plays a film director who desperately wants to direct! What follows may be bizarre but it's fantastic! My favourite films of all time are 'Patch Adams' and 'The sixth Sense' and now my list includes 'Bowfinger' With Steve Martin's writing and his and Eddie Murphy's acting it makes a great and comic mix. Most parts had me crying with laughter.Heather Graham as Daisy, Christine Baranski as Carol and Jamie Kennedy as Dave were fantastic in the film as well. They all worked together brilliantly. Two thumbs up! Buy this on video as if you don't you will seriously miss out.
