Summary: Very smart dark comedy
Review: If you didn't think the movie wasn't clever and funny -- didn't get the joke. Martin hits every little subtle Hollywood quirk with over the top performances from this satire whose characters are each important in their own right. This movie is not completely typical of Martin movies and reflects the darker cynical side of his humor that has made him into a top writing draw, appearing monthly in the New Yorker as well as in the New York Times. The "silly gags" otherw wrote about all reflect different parts of the satire, not intended just to be silly gags. Don't go into this thinking this will be a Meg Ryan - Tom Hanks type comedy and you won't be disappointed at all.

Summary: double the talent doesn't mean double the fun
Review: Bowfinger is a average run of the mill movie from two of the greatest comedy stars of all time. Frankly I was disappointed and sincerely believe that these two could produce a better movie. Eddie shows his supreme talent by playing two very different roles but really isn't that funny. The Jiff character is funny but gets lost in it all. The Kit character is not funny and totally out of context for Eddie Murphy. Maybe I don"t get it but it just wasn"t funny. Steve Martin shows brilliance in a few places but the whole movie just lacked originality and pure humor. It wasn't terrible though, it was worth seeing and I'm sure some will like this. The key thing to this DVD was for the first time I found a dvd that has the 5.1 channel dolby digital sound as well as the DTS. The box doesn't have the red and white logo all over it like other dts movies, but it is there. This just proves to me that this feat can be done on one dvd and the dvd industry needs to quit ripping us consumers off by making us choose one or the other. Just put them both on the same DVD and do the right thing.

Summary: Put this one in the comedy section!
Review: The uniqueness and the collaborative funniness of Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy shine throughout the length of this comic flic. This one definitely has lotsa new humor in it- good for quite a few laughs. The plot was a clever balance to the histerics.

Martin, Murphy, and the cast are right on. You know you'll laugh the next time you watch it!

Summary: I want my money back
Review: This DVD is a TOTAL BUST, I want my money back. The first 40 minutes I battled to stay awake. Then there are 1 or 2 funny scenes after that, the rest of it was just stupid. Even the actors in their interviews were not enthusiastic about the movie. It was like they were reading a script. I got the impression that they did not like the movie either. Spend your money on some decent entertainment. STAY AWAY! I am changing my rating to ZERO stars!

Summary: THIS Is Comedy, Folks.
Review: What can I say? Steve Martin has proved himself to be one of the wittiest, savviest and funniest writers to come along in the movies. Also, Frank Oz has established himself as THE comedy director in my opinion. He's helmed such comic masterpieces as "What About Bob?", "Housesitter", "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and his other most recent film, "In and Out". The performances and writing in these films are the best in terms of comedy.

Eddie Murphy gives the performance of a lifetime. Not since his earlier days at "Saturday Night Live" has he had a better chance to ham it up with great comic chracters. His Kit is vile and vulgar while his Jiff is sweet, lovable and a complete innocent. It's a testament to Murphy's acting ability where he has NO prothetics whatsoever, yet he looks like a DIFFERENT person (he does wear braces, though).

Getting back to the writing, Martin KNOWS comedy. His comedy isn't like the comedy alot of people like. You wont find toilet humor or blatent obscenities here. Martin goes for honest laughs. His style is graceful and hysterical.

For those of you who liked "Big Daddy", "Austin Powers", "Waterboy" etc. . .you'll most likely be bored here. For those of us who love great comedy. . .You've come to the right place.

Summary: Bowfinger
Review: Eddie Murphy is very good in this, probably as good as any movie he has ever done! An excellent actor and great with the sight gags as well as the satire. Steve Martin is at his best as actor and comedy writer. There is no question that Frank Oz contributed to the writing as well for this very funny script. All in all an entertaining show with plenty of insider gags for the industry and movie goer. The only down side on might be the theatrical trailer which does not do the movie itself any real justice.

Summary: Not Very Good
Review: I did not think this movie was very funny at all. The out-takes were probably the funniest, and they weren't all that good.

Summary: BOWFINGER IN THE MIDDLE
Review: Not as biting or satirical as LA STORY, BOWFINGER nonetheless is still a fast, funny and a witty little movie. Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy (playing two roles) work well together and the supporting cast are perfectly placed. On DVD BOWFINGER comes with a few extra's. Deleted scenes (of which there are only two), and outakes (of which few are actually funny). There is a sight location map, as well as commentary from Frank Oz who directed the film. On a fiddle factor of one to ten, this DVD gets a three. There is very little to play with, and Oz does give some insight and background into how this movie was framed and shot, but little else really. If you're a Martin or Murphy fan then BOWFINGER will not disappoint, if you're looking for features and extra's... renting is your best option.

Summary: Unjustly overlooked, well-worth it
Review: No thanks to one of the worst promotional campaigns in history, "Bowfinger" died in theaters domestically, but may enjoy a well-deserved resurrection as a video cult item. That campaign, by the way, told us nothing about the movie and instead focused on Eddie Murphy's nerdish performance -- well, half of his performance, anyway -- which made no sense out of context. But the film itself is just shy of brilliance: Steve Martin plays a washed-up moviemaker of the Ed Wood school (he doesn't know he's bad, but he gives it his best anyway), who's guaranteed financing for the movie "Chubby Rain" if he can get one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Kit Ramsey (Murphy in bad-attitude mode). Since Ramsey wants nothing to do with Bowfinger, the filmmaker decides to have the movie shot on the sly, involving the actor without his knowledge or consent. This leads to some of the funniest scenes in any movie around -- which, alas, are not followed up as completely as they could be, but the fact that they got as far as they did is nothing short of wonderful. Martin and Murphy are both terrific; the rest of the cast is fun, too. This one deserved better.

Summary: Non stop laughs
Review: This has got to be one of the fuuniest movies I have seen in a long time. I was laughing so hard that I was crying. My friend was the one who wanted to go see this movie. I was very very skeptical about his choice. I thought that this movie looked so stupid and I had no intentions of spending $6.50 to go and see it. But I was dead wrong. In fact I spent $6.50 two more times. The movie is about Bobby Bowfinger, who is played by Steve Martin, a movie producer that is going through some hard times when he thinks that his bad luck has come to an end, when he reads the script of a movie he thinks will be big. He wants a big time actor to star in the movie. So he offers the role to Kit Ramsey, played by Eddie Murphy. Kit turns him down, so Bowfinger decides to make him the star of the film without him knowing he is being filmed. Bowfinger also puts together a bunch of no name actors to be in the movie and interact with Kit Ramsey without Kit knowing that it is a movie. Thats all I'm going to say. So if you want to see a movie that is very funny and original then check out Bowfinger. I am very anxious for this movie to come out on dvd.
