Review: More here than meets the eye. JOE SOMEBODY in previews looks like it could have been a slapstick revenge movie. Joe (Tim Allen - HOME IMPROVEMENT) is humiliated at the office parking lot by the office bully Mark (Patrick Warburton - -SEINFELD'S "Puddy")over a parking space. The combination of a painful divorce and a dead end career at a Minneapolis pharmaceutical company is more than he can handle so, he decides to do something about it. He challenges the bully for a rematch. In other movies of this sort, the creators could have had the two fighting each other through the whole movie. Fortunately, it doesn't go this route. In fact, Patrick Warburton's character isn't seen much at all through the rest of the movie until the end (He's suspended from his job and told to go to anger management courses). Instead, we see the transformation of Tim Allen's character as he decides to gain some self-confidence and self-esteem through the company's "wellness coordinator", Julie Bowen (tv's ED), corporate politics, and his hiring of a self-defense instructor/ex-action movie star played brilliantly with humor and restraint by James Belushi. There is a lot of things going on in this movie, but not so much to lose the audience. There is Tim Allen's character relationship with his daughter Hayden Panettiere (Natalie Scheffer), his relationship with his ex-wife, the love story between his character and Julie Bowen's character (Meg Harper), and the relationship with his self-defense instructor (Belushi). The humor is not too over the top, pretty good location shots and production values, there is an underlining message of non-confrontation vs confrontation, and the so-called fight rematch between the Allen's character and Warburton's character is on the money. Overall, a movie worth a second look.

Review: Not as Bad as Freddy Got Fingered, but it's terrible and starring a non-terrible star Tim Allen. He goes from Tim Taylor to Santa Clause to Buzz Lightyear and to other flicks,but then he goes to this poopy waste of a film, when Tim Allen could of done Toy Story 3. The plot is very stupid, this is a big discrace for Tim Allen, if you think this is better than the Santa Clause, I'm grateful I don't know you. I could make a better SAG Award winning porno than this piece of comedy POOP POOP POOP.

Summary: Great Family Movie
Review: O.K., so this movie wasn't a laugh a minute ha ha fest, but it was a really nice romantic comedy that was easy to watch. It won't make you flinch in mixed company, and it would be great to watch with kids. All of the characters were well cast and did a great acting job. Belushi adds just the right spice. Tim Allen is endearing and likable.

Summary: Passable Entertainment
Review: Okay, so our first two choices were sold out and we had to go with a movie that worked for our time slot. From the trailers, this movie looked okay, and the soundtrack showed promise. So, we bit.And we were not disappointed. This is no brilliant masterpiece, no cinematic work of art. But it kept our attention 98% of the time and gave us plenty of laughs and a a few touching moments. I liked Tim Allen's performance as the father who, beat up in front of his daughter, decides to fight back. Julie Bowen did a nice job as the romantic lead in the story. Meg Ryan, look out! Jim Belushi did a reasonable, predictable job. It looks like he's been not only typecast within his own acting history, but also within his late brother's. Too bad. I've seen him do some good work. Greg Germann plays a reptilian personnel manager you love to hate. But he, Belushi and too many other parts seem too contrived, as though there more script committee meetings than there should have been. I'm surprised to see that only one writer is credited with this movie. I had the feeling, from watching it, that a handful of cooks had their hands in this broth. The result is a story that has lots of potentially good parts, but they don't all hang together like they could have.
For example, the daughter is way too wise. The screenwriter couldn't hold back from putting smart-mouthed repartees in her mouth. But when you hear a kid that young spouting jaded, edgy replies, it doesn't feel right and takes you out of the hypnotic connection to the story. That's not a good thing. Overall, this movie was enjoyable and as a whole, we walked out smiling, feeling good. Worth the rental.

Summary: REMATCH WANTED!!!
Review: The bypassed, insecure, and newly divorced Joe Scheffer (Tim Allen) ends up being humiliated in front of his daughter in his company's parking lot by the big bully Mark McKinney. This event drives Joe into a deep depression, until his company sends their counselor to see him. She asks him what he wants, which results in Joe realizing that he wants a rematch. The rematch idea has a domino effect where his coworkers exponentially take notice of him and it increases his self-confidence with the help of a has-been martial art star, Chuck Scarett (James Belushi). Joe Somebody is an entertaining and amusing comedy regarding the daily adversities that people face.

Review: The movie doesn't rise above mediocasy, both in script and cast, the only talented actor being Hayden Panettiere (then 11). She seemed like the only one who cared to put some effort into her acting in order to get away from the let's-make-another-quick-movie routine. She's got a nice smile, by the way. Tim Allen should stick to sitcom, that's where he's good at. Sorry.
