Summary: One of the year's worst films.
Review: (1/2 star of 4)I wish this film was only a joke, but it isn't. It's a movie. It destroys the boundaries of film just as Bubble Boy and Pootie Tang did. To take this film seriously is completely impossible. I am reminded of the classic stupidified waste movie Blankman after seeing this. Tim Allen plays a wanna-be hero. Enough said? This film lacks realism and care. It comes off as another kiddy movie with a knack for being one hundred percent stupid, rather than funny. It's about as good as the classic Ernest films were. Jim Belushi also makes a poor effort performance in this no-brainer. This film is brutally idiotic and boring. Tim Allen is only fit for a Buzz Lightyear, where he can provide a voice without a face. After seeing this sad, sad, sad failure movie you might say to your pal- "I just saw this really stupid movie the other day- it was Jack... Jim... Jake... oh no it was Joe... ... Something..." QUOTE: "Joe Somebody is something, but I'm not sure what just yet. It is a complete manipulator, only out for family holiday cash, rather than wanting to at least be taken seriously. It tries working a formula of "dumb-dumb" humor and immature heroism that is destructive to itself. Try another Joe, because this Somebody is sure to be a Nobody really soon."

Summary: Hands down worst movie of the year
Review: And quite possibly THE worst movie I've ever seen. And I've seen alot of bad ones. Tim Allen is fine in this film; he does some good work but absolutely NONE of it is funny. The material he has to work with is so pathetic that even his best efforts can't salvage the film. The supporting roles played by his girlfriend and daughter were especially unimpressive (especially his girlfriend). The film just bogs from one boring segment to another. At a certain point in this film you realize that they aren't even TRYING to make you laugh, because there are just no more comedic attempts. I don't know whats worse: trying to be funny and failing pitifully, or just carrying on with any comedy attempts in a sort of quasi-non-comedy. Unfortunately if you see this movie you will get to decide for yourself. The only good part of this movie is Jim Belushi as a kung-fu instructor. It seems as though he may make things interesting but once again, his efforts are wasted.

Summary: Hilarious! I loved this movie! A must buy!
Review: Everybody reading this, I am going to tell you right off the bat, that this is a great family film that needs to be bought. Now for the review: Tim Allen stars as a divorced father named Joe who is beat up at work in front of his daughter by the corporate bully at his job. But he decides to fight back! So he goes to a martial arts studio and enlists the help of an ex movie star played by Jim Belushi whose work in the K-9 movies (except part one which bored me to death K-9 1-1 and K-9: P.I. were great, made me want to see the movie more). Along the way he falls for the sweet girl at work. Will he fight or won't he? I will not say more about this movie, because I am known to spoil the plots to movies so this is a movie you just have to rent or buy and watch in its entirety with your entire family, except the little ones (probably ages 5-8) because of the language (there are some objectionable phrases especially from his daughter). Anyway, this is great fun for everybody. Check it out!

Summary: Surprisingly enjoyable
Review: For me, this movie was just going to be a Saturday afternoon time-killer, but it turned out to be a little more thoughtful and enjoyable than I had anticipated. I'm not the biggest Tim Allen fan in the world, but I thought he was quite good. I thought Jim Belushi was well-cast, and the girl who played Tim Allen's daughter was adorable and a very good little actress. All in all, worth a rental.

Review: I can't believe the hard knocks this movie has taken. I'm not exactly sure what people were expecting, an oscar worthy film? Anyway, for what it was intended to be, this movie is excellent. For those of you out there that loved the movie, Return to Me, in spite of critics ripping it apart, Joe Somebody is in the same category. Tim Allen gives his absolute most touching performance as a middle aged man in a terrible identity crisis. His pain seems very very real, and his childlike response to rising popularity makes him even more lovable than if he began to get cocky. The title of the film is the point of the movie, who we are is not what other people think about us. Joe is very invisible in the beginning and suffering from rejection. His artsy, image conscious wife has left him to pursue, what else, her own desires for fame, and fleeting excitement. His co-workers don't know his name although he's worked for his company for ten years. The final straw is when an immature employee beats him up in the company parking lot when Joe tries to stand up for his rights. Things change when he's visited by the company health counselor, who is as cute as a button and could replace Meg Ryan in a heartbeat. She asks Joe what he wants in a casual conversation, and from there Joe begins to change his life. The rest of the movie questions whether the changes are for the better. Although the movie is predictable, we really wouldn't want it to turn out any other way. Jim Belushi is as good in this movie as he was in Return to Me. Here he is an aged, out of work, Steven Seagal type character who Tim Allen enlists to help him get into shape for a rematch with his arch nemesis at work. The scenes are the best in the movie and worth the price alone. Most people don't know the extent of Belushi's martial arts background but it certainly shows here and he fits perfectly into his role. Tim Allen has never played a more sympathetic creature than he does here, and one wonders if he didn't bring some of the pain from his own life into the role. The old saying is, don't judge a book by it's cover, and I have to say that for this DVD. The cover is very misleading, especially with the leading lady leaning all over Joe - who stands like Conan the Barbarian. Her character is not like this at all - she's much classier and the cover art is really weird. Her character is also explored in depth, and the story is as much hers as it is Joe's. Watching Joe deal with his mid-life crisis causes many others in the film to re-evaulate their own right along with him. For those of you who loved Return to Me, another predictable movie, for the fact that endless quirky wonderful performances surrounded the leads and complimented them beautifully, then Joe Somebody is for you. The film is a wonderful exploration of true friendship, a fulfilling life, and the pursuit of happiness.

Summary: Being Somebody
Review: I didn't think this movie was going to be any good, but while watching it, I couldn't help but relate to the main character of Joe, played by Tim Allen. I related to him in the way anybody would. We've all been at a point where we just decide to give up on everything because we feel like nothing we do matters, and we're just going to fade away. Joe is going through a divorce, is never acknowledged at work, and doesn't really take charge of things the way he should.
After being beaten up by an office bully (Patrick Warburton) in front of his daughter, Joe decides to change his life around, by challenging the bully to another fight. This causes him to actually get noticed in the workplace, and become "somebody". But the message here is not 'threaten somebody and you'll get everything', it's 'take charge of things and be confident, and you'll succeed'.
The movie is funny and amusing, and it's got a good message. Tim Allen plays a somewhat different kind of role here, he's more of an introvert; more of a real person. Hayden Panettiere and Julie Bowen are both sweet as Joe's daughter and Joe's love interest. Worth a watch.

Summary: Might does not make right
Review: I hate movies that make intimidation and bullying aceptable. Tim Allen is bullied by a fellow employee. Instead of taking legal action, which is reality, he learns to fight. That is what is wrong with this country, Americans believe that the only way to fight bullying is by fighting. Let me tell you about reality. Tim Allen is bullied by a fellow employee. In most coporations physically assaulting another employee , especially on company property, is grounds for imediate termination. That bully would have lost his job and not be able to collect unemployment. THAT IS REALITY! Plus the boss does nothing about the incident. This could lead to a lawsuit against the company. The bully would have had a visit from the police where he would face criminal charges and be sent to jail. He would also face a civil lawsuit where he could lose everything he owns, all of his assets, his car and his home. THAT IS REALITY! The bully would have been standing before Judge Judy where Judge Judy would pick him to shreads. As she says "I eat idiots like you for breakfast!" I have seen her deal quite harshly with bullies. Its bad enough that kids bully other kids and it is considered acceptable. It is not acceptable for an adult who is mature and responsible to bully other people. Adults that bully other people can face serious crimminal and civil punishment. Bullies do not make it in the white collar world. Hopefully people with white collar jobs have a higher level of intellect and maturity.

Summary: Joe Somebody: Nice guys finish first
Review: I loved this movie. It's a simple story about the 98 lb. weakling who wakes up one day and changes his life. If you were ever picked on by bullies in junior high, passed over for a promotion at work, or had to eat lunch by yourself in the company cafeteria, you will appreciate this movie. Tim Allen does a terrific job as the office nice-guy nerd who gets beat up and changes his life. Julie Bowen is adorable. Jim Belushi is terrific as the sarcastic karate coach. The company HR chief is realistically creepy. The acting is very good, the story is believeable and the ending is well done (except for the daughter's play thing, which looks tacked on..). You will laugh all the way through. No one will win any academy awards here, but you'll walk out of the movie feeling good.
