Summary: Carrey's "Mork & Mindy"
Review: This is an absolutely saccharine, vapid, funny story with a great hook: A divorced daddy lawyer has his life turned upside down when his disappointed kid (Dad missed another birthday party) gets his birthday wish that his dad could only tell the truth, just for one day.

In the first place, no kid would say "Just for one day," he'd say, "Forever." Be that as it may, the comic possibilities are quite promising, with the manic Jim Carrey in the role of the lying daddy. But ultimately this film very much reminds me of Robin Williams's breakthrough role as Mork in the TV series "Mork & Mindy," which unfortunately is now rarely seen in spite of the huge number of cable channels available. In each LL and M&M, we have an extremely thin, poorly executed backdrop behind a very energetic comedian at his best. This makes for lots of laughs but nothing memorable. Junk food comedy, worth renting but only worth buying for the Carrey faithful.

"Liar Liar" is very much worth watching for the laughs, and there are plenty. The biggest one may be in the bloopers during the end credits, when Swoosie Kurtz zings Carrey beautifully in a way that shows, to no one's surprise, that everybody in on the making of this quickie was completely devoid of illusions about the nature of the film. It's a cute flick, but one that could have been a far better movie if someone had been willing to make it so. As it is, it's at least good for a few laughs, but even a few of the comedy bits are remarkably forced.

Summary: Ruined by Hollywood moralisms
Review: As a Jim Carrey fan, I began watching this film with great anticiaption. But it had one drawback. It was made in Hollywood. Unfortunately, the arrogant millionaires in Hollywood cannot create a film without weighing it down with long-winded platitudes and unrealistic moralism. The funniest part of this movie is when Jim Carrey realizes he's been wasting his time as a lawyer and should spend more time with his son, and then, after giving a bum his spare change tells him that money won't make him happy. Only Hollywood could be so digustingly arrogant. I couldn't help but think about the $25 million Carrey received for this film when he recited those moronic lines. Money won't make you happy. Yea, it's easy for Hollywood millionaires to preach to Americans about the "evils" of money over and over and over again.... Easy when you're a multi-millionaire. I think this film would have been a lot funnier if it had ended with Carrey--after quitting his job with the law firm--seen with his son is living in an alley and eating left over pizza from a dumpster. They have big smiles on their soiled faces because they are together--who needs a job! If only the twisted souls in Hollywood would get back to the business of entertaining instead of churning out hypocrtical, juvenile moralisms....

Review: Liar liar was a great film. Carrey's genius in the area of comedic acting can never fail, and as far as I've seen never has. All of his co-stars were terrific but nothing can top the talent of the famous comedian Jim Carrey!

Summary: Not his best, but very, very good
Review: Jim Carey is of course very, very good in this movie. He plays his character to perfection. A over worked Dad who doesn't have/make time for his kid, and finds out the hard way what he's missing out on. Then by the end of the movie he discovers what he's missing out in life in general. This only comes to be by his son making the one wish all lawyers wouldn't wish on their worst enemy, he can not tell a lie. (Surprise, Surprise)

For this movie, Jim Carey tapped into one of his favorite (and he is best utilized w/) directors, Tom Shadyac. Tom Shadyac also directed Ace Ventura, Nutty Professor, Patch Adams and Bruce Almighty (I didn't want to mention Dragonfly). I must say I love the work he has done w/Jim Carey, and I'm a big fan of all the movies they've made together.

Maura Tierney plays Jim Carey's ex-wife who is still in love w/, at least in some sense. She is funny in her own way, and definitely plays her role very well. She reminds me a little of Jennifer Anniston's character in Along Came Polly, I don't know why, but she does for some reason. Jennifer Tilly plays Careys client which is a real pain in the neck (by his own doing), and she seemed to play the role very naturally (hmmmmmm).

Carey Elwes (Princess Bride) also plays an interesting character, the want to be step-dad. Why can't this guy be a good guy in movies anymore? He was great in Princess Bride, but now always seems to play the guy you root against, and in this movie, again you root against him. I guess its the role he is now doomed to play.

In conclusion, this movie should be in your DVD collection. Definitely safe to buy this movie before seeing, as it has a very nice story, good direction, good acting, and good directing. Not one of Careys top 3 movies, probably top 5 though.

Summary: THIS IS WHERE CARREY'S MOMENTUM SLOWED DOWN
Review: IN THIS MOVIE, A LAWYER [JIM CARREY], WHO'S A CHRONIC LIAR, MAKES A PROMISE TO FULFILL HIS SON'S BIRTHDAY WISH, WHICH IS TO BE HONEST ABOUT EVERYTHING HE SAYS FOR A WHOLE DAY. THE PLOT IS KINDA CLEVER, BUT THE MOVIE AIN'T THAT FUNNY. I PERSONALLY THINK THAT THIS MOVIE WAS MEDIOCRE AND THIS IS WHERE JIM CARREY BEGAN MAKING NOT SO GOOD MOVIES. BUT, IF YOU RENTED OR BOUGHT THIS MOVIE, IT'S NOT A TOTAL WASTE. AT LEAST IT IS REMOTELY INTERESTING.
