Summary: CLASSIC!!!!!
Review: A film that really should not be missed, starring Gene Wilder, Donald Sutherland, Gene Wilder, and Donald Sutherland! All four playing in what must be some of their funniest roles ever! Supporting cast (mostly British) is great in this film set in, and filmed entirely in, France. One of the best scenes is at a fancy dress ball, where aristocrats dance and pass notes (Transcription of some of those notes: "Kill the King." "Kill the de Sisis." "Kill the Queen." "Kill Escargot." "Hello Handsome!"). That's just an example; for the rest, SEE THIS FILM!

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: A little confusing, if you don't listen. Even if you do listen, it's confusing. Donald Sutherland and Gene Wilder work excellent together. Start the Revolution Without Me is sort of a spoof of The Man in the Iron Mask, but with more bizarre and unexpected twists. A little hard to find though. Definitly A Must See!

Summary: good for an old time belly laugh about old comedy
Review: Great stars, old comedy, beautiful faces, naked comedy, an odd film all around...

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I first saw this movie when I was a senior in high school. A friend of mine took me and was repeating all the important lines just in case I didn't catch the puns. Well today I practically have memorised the film after repeated viewings ( how many times?)and now my daughters, one aged 13 the other 7, have picked up on this zany, non-stop spoof on an Engilsh version of French history. Who can forget the Corsican brothers, Mimi Montage or the Count d'Escargot. Let's not forget the compulsively self involved Phillipe deSisi and his pet stuffed eagle, Thor. This film has rightly attained cult status.

Summary: Always funnier each time you watch
Review: I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it and repeated viewings over the years have not diminished it at all. In fact, it seems funnier every time I watch it. The DVD presentation is good and the commentary soundtrack by Wilder, Sutherland and Yorkin is worth hearing for any fan of the film. As funny as anything produced by Monty Python, Mel Brooks or Mystery Science Theater, the comedy is dense and unending. Every opportunity for humor is used to great extent, visually, verbally, and physically. The supporting cast is strong (Billie Whitelaw, Hugh Griffith and more greats) and there are many LOL (laugh out loud) scenes. Thank goodness you can watch this DVD, so it's always "still 1789"!

Summary: great, funny classic
Review: I laughed so hard while watching this with a friend. Gene Wilder is amazing. I love numerous scenes and exchanges of dialouge.. including one where Gene shouts "I have even a better idea! I got a better idea!!" as a group of "swine" chose him and Donald Sutherland to get killed by guards to start a fight.

"I thought it was a costume ball..!" (I'm not 100% correct on lines spoken, but from memory, it still makes me laugh.) I'm very glad it's a cult favorite.

Summary: Well.....
Review: I love this movie. I think that it is hysterical. I do not own it, but I have rented the DVD. The DVD falls very short. Almost no special features, except for a commentary track. Also, the film itself was injured. The aspect ratio used for the DVD is a matted format, while the film itself was shot in anamorphic. There is an anamorphic version shown on AMC, but why this was not used for the DVD escapes me. I still love this movie though, and I hope plans are made to correct this problem.

Summary: One of the funniest movies I have seen!!!
Review: I saw this movie about five years ago, and I still love it. I have seen it millions and millions of times, and it is still as funny as the first. If you are in for a good laugh, this is your movie!!! The only thing that I have against it is the tiny bit of nudity.

P.S. I like your shoes!!! (Watch the movie to get the joke)

Summary: Gene Wilder at his very best!
Review: If you enjoy Gene Wilder in the Mel Brooks films, then this movie is right up your alley. It is truly one of the funniest ever made.

The story involves two sets of twins - with one brother in each set switched at birth. One set is raised as aristocrats; the other as peasant revolutionaries. The time - 1779. (When you see the movie, you'll know how funny that line just was!)

Donald Sutherland and Gene Wilder are hilarious as the mismatched brothers, with the peasant-raised set rather normal if a bit cowardly, and the aristos just this side of psychotic. (Ok, maybe they are on the other side...).

Throw in a misunderstood Louis XVI betrayed by everybody and his brother, a Marie Antoinette who could give Messalina a run for her money and, of course, the sinister minister, D'Escargot, and you have the most outrageously funny Gene Wilder movie ever.
