Rating: Summary: The Grossest Thing Review: This movie was a dreadful collection of vulgar sex jokes and scenes. I was very disappointed, since normally I am a Cameron Diaz fan.
Rating: Summary: Pee-Yew! Review: First, let me say this film is not the Yankee answer to Bridget Jones diary. The Sweetest Thing is at best sophmoric. Here is a film with three of the most talented and delightful comedic young actresses today, Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair, and Christina Applegate and the material is so bad that at times they even seem ambarrassed and awkward being in it. What could have been a funny, sexy look at modern twenty somethings search for love instead turned out to be a raunchy, tasteless waste of film. The movie has absolutely nothing to say. It's greatest achievement is coming across as porn without the visuals. A few humorous moments though most of the comedy drowns in its own cheapness. Not a particulary funny film--unless, of course you find clothing stains of a sexual nature, oral sex and whoring around funny.
Rating: Summary: This movie is stupid Review: The Sweetest Thing was a waste of time and money. If anyone gave me this script to look at, I would say something like, "This is a joke, right?" Cameron Diaz is a very good actress, so I don't understand why she would waste her talent on mess like this. Don't buy, rent, or borrow this movie from anyone.
Rating: Summary: Not perfect but still funny Review: The Sweetest Thing follows a few weeks in the lifes of twenty-something friends Christina, Courtney and Jane as Christina tries to track down her perfect man Peter with Courtney accompaning her and Jane's messing around with her stupid but cute re-bound guy. There's a lot of dirty humor which isn't usually found in a "chick flick" and a lot of unbelievable situations, but it's still a fun movie with plenty of laughs...Makes me want to grab my friends for a road trip kind of movie.
Rating: Summary: Goofy, yet hilarious... Review: It takes a certain sense of humor to truly appreciate this funny flick. If you've ever had a girlfriend who does crazy stuff with you, understands you, and can finish your sentences with a language of catchphrases only you two share, then you will understand and appreciate this movie. True, it's outrageous...but that's what makes it so entertaining. There are so many scenes that I could mention but I'd rather not ruin it for you! If you like sappy, romantic comedies, maybe this one's not for you. If you like semi-raunchy comedies like American Pie, then this will probably make you laugh too. Obviously, go rent it before you buy it...if you're like me, you'll want to watch it again and again...I should warn you, there is a song you may catch yourself singing and you may get some strange looks!!! Just watch it!
Rating: Summary: Astounding Review: That three such talented actresses would agree to star in this piece of dreck. Astounding.
Rating: Summary: One of the biggest laughs I have ever had!!! Review: I don't see how people can sit here and put this movie down. Sure, it might make fun of women, but it also shows them having a great time and living life to its fullest. I recommend this to anybody who wants to watch a good comedy. I laughed so hard! My brother of all people actually took it from me and won't give it back. It is the funniest thing i have ever seen. It has got a killer cast too!! It is a must see movie!!! That is if you don't mind toilet humor! literally
Rating: Summary: GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN... Review: When my twenty year old daughter came home from college, she went to the video store and came home with this film, a comedy with a fairly good cast. Neither I nor my daughter knew much about this movie. Well, were we in for a big surprise! The humor throughout was truly raunchy, ribald, and raw. It was also, at times, quite funny. If you are a fan of the Farrelly Brothers movies or enjoy crude comedies, then you may enjoy this. Instead of the guys being gross, however, it's the gals. This movie revolves around three gal pals, Christina (Cameron Diaz), Courtney (Christine Applegate), and Jane (Selma Blair) and their close encounters with the male kind. The guys, however, definitely take a back seat to these three twenty something misses. I confess, it was a bit startling, though funny, to see these gals break into a song fit for a drunken stag party. Some of the scenes were done tongue and cheek. Check out the Dick and Jane scene. You will know the scene I mean, when you see it. This film is not for those with delicate sensibilities, as erect male sex organs, anal sex, oral copulation, and other usually taboo subjects are ripe for gags, many of which, while filthy, are often funny. If you do not like your jokes down and dirty, then this is not the film for you. If you are broader minded, then you may enjoy Nancy Pimental's screenplay and the silly cavorting of the delightful Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, and Selma Blair, once you get over your initial shock. --This text refers to the VHS Tape edition
Rating: Summary: Oh, what a silly movie . . . Review: It almost seems as if the goal of this movie is to prove that girls can star in films as vapid and crude as your typical Natioal Lampoon or more contemporary teen-flick of the month. If you had to sum up this film, I'd say: take Sex and the City, and substitute the clever humor and New York women with the goofy sorority girls you knew at University. I *DO* think that "the Sweetest Thing" brings in a refreshing female perspective, proving that girls can be as crass and ungarded about their love lives as men. My favorite scene is Diaz's dream sequence (about the ice cream sunday...). It's a cleverly crafted scene, and an indicator of how seldom we see female owned sexuality. All that a side, much of this film consists of Diaz and Applegate prancing around like pre-teen girls. And NOTHING justifies the self indulgent musical numbers that have a tendancy of poping up for no reason at all. I mena , I could see that the aim was to make the film kitchy and fun -- but as the song and dance numbers go on far longer than they should have, you begin to wish they would just get on with the plot. The problem is that there is no plot -- just a string of random goofy moments that wouldn't make it on SNL. There's even a movie montage, complete with costume changes and music...why? I still have no idea. The Sweetest Thing had some potential but the film really lost itself in trying to be a vehicle for glorifying its stars' mindlessly jumping around in their underwear. If you're lazy, and feel like a campy comedy then this might be amusing -- but I suggest watching it with a friend, as at times this you'll be itching to turn to someone and say "WHAAAAT!?"
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: I love Cameron Diaz, but I think this is the worst film she has done. Very bad writing, and unfunny jokes.
