Review: this movie reminds young, hip males who they are or who they'd rather be. We all secretly aspire to be shallow, sex-crazed, manipulative Adonises, and we all want to creep around the bar scene all night long, getting blasted and looking to con someone into getting into bed with us. That, friends, is the plot of Swingers-and I challenge any guy to deny their kinship with these ignominous values SOMEHWERE in a corner of their brain. And thats all right, because that which makes us laugh often is that which is painfully true-so prepare to do some.

Summary: Why won't she call?
Review: This film is completely awesome on a hundred different levels.First are perhaps the actors themselves. Vaughn and Favreau are amazing together. They achieve a relationship in this film like nothing else (not even in the later movie "Made" or in their not-entirely-related work in "Rudy"). In addition, my good friend Alex Desert (from the incredible ska band HEPCAT and the seemingly forgotten Fox TV show "The Heights"), plays a fantastic role as well. Second is the subject matter. Who hasn't gone through this? Who hasn't had the rug pulled from under them (relationship wise), to be left to start all over again...initially a shell of your former self, but then growing to love and trust once more. Much like any Sinatra recording, this movie lets you know, "fella, you ain't in this alone." There are so many scenes that speak to this so beautifully, that it almost escapes description. One would be when Mikey is checking his answering-machine and it starts talking back to him. Another would be when Mikey finally sees the girl as the "bunny rabbit." I could go on and on, but I don't want to give too much away. Yet another basis is direction and cinematography. There is a ton of film-insider humor here that gets missed if you don't pay attention. The Quentin reference..."Everyone rips off everyone else"...with the immediate slow-motion walking scene (that rips off "Resevoir Dogs") is priceless. Very funny, yet not in your face. I've gone through 4 VHS copies of this, and I now have it on DVD. It is definitely something you will enjoy, and it never ceases to disappoint...despite REPEATED viewings. Get it asap!

Review: Pretty much any single guy out there can relate to Mike. We've all been through it, and this movie turns the anguish each of us has experienced into a hillarious hour and a half. VEGAS, BABY!

Summary: Great Guy Flick.
Review: Fads come and go and come again. Such is the lounge lizard lifestyle of the early 1990s that quickly went into vogue, disappeared just as fast, and is sure to return again. A lot of time movies that revolve around such pictures in time become dated rapidly and are no longer entertaining to watch. SWINGERS is NOT such a movie. Though SWINGERS revolves around a modern struggling Rat Pack that spend their evenings as lounge lizards, this is a movie that has not gone out of style. The Swingers spend their days looking for work in the entertainment business intraspersed with games of golf and late night drives to Las Vegas. The plot is rather simple. Jon Favreau plays Mike, a guy moved out west to further his career as a comic. However, his girlfriend broke up with him shortly after he left and he still hasn't moved on six months later. The film follows Mike as his buddies help him get back in the game and find a new baby. SWINGERS is a great guy movie. It's a film about guys, written by guys, for guys. However, girls seem to enjoy the movie as well, but don't seem to understand it very much. The movie has some great acting (after all most of the cast was basically just playing themselves), a awesome soundtrack, and some of the most memorable movie lines in recent history (this film ranks up with THE PRINCESS BRIDE and TOMMY BOY in quotability). The only negative about the film is the foul language which at times cheapens some of the witty dialogue. Still, the movie is great fun.

Summary: There's nothing new under the sun
Review: Entertaining movie about maladjusted lounge lizards passes the time nicely but is ultimately just another navel-gazing indie film. It's not that funny either--more a grin and wince type of experience. Basically about drinking fools in their 20's that can't settle down, mess around, hang out with other men and occasionally bonk women that loiter in nightclubs--how refreshing.

Summary: You will either absolutely love or hate this film
Review: 'Swingers' documents the social lives of five guys in their twenties living in Southern California. The main characters in this movie fancy themselves as cool cats living lives adjunct to the 90's swing revival. The first twenty minutes of the movie are a bit slow, but are essential for character development. This slow beginning may explain why viewers either love or revile it. If you can get past the first twenty minutes, you will laugh hysterically. (This film also has a great soundtrack and is immensely quotable.)

Review: It's sad, but true. The very first time I saw this movie, I totally identified with the character played by John Favreau. His problems with women almost mirror mine...but you know what? He wins in the end, and sly dog Vince Vaughn is the one who gets laughed at. This is a great movie for guys, but almost every girl I know has really enjoyed it as well. It's a smart, savvy, and fun movie that definately deserves a spot in your DVD collection.

Review: I had to watch this movie because my friends rented and made me watch it. I have no idea why anyone likes this movie, the movie has no plot what so ever! Everyone talks about how funny this movie is yet I watched the movie twice trying to find out what I missed the first time and I still can't find anything funny about this movie. Well thats my 2 cents if you don't like my review I'm sorry to hear that but everyone has their opinon.

Summary: Exact opposite of Made
Review: I'm so fired up after watching Made and posted a review there, that I have to come over here to keep innocent people from watching that awful flick. Swingers was a great movie - I can't say anything different than anyone else that's posted reviews about how great it is. MADE, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS UNWATCHABLE. IF YOU LOVED SWINGERS BECAUSE OF HOW WITTY IT WAS AND HOW REAL IT WAS, DO NOT SEE MADE. HORRIBLE, I'D RATHER WATCH CONGO, COYOTE UGLY, OR URBAN LEGEND - AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING.

Summary: Makes You Want To Be A "Swinger" Yourself
Review: I'll spare you the "money" quotes and resolve to simply say this is a good movie. I'd heard lots of good word-of-mouth about this movie, but never had the opportunity to see it. Now that I have, I find myself equally pleased and disappointed with this film--perhaps to a contradictory degree. On the one hand, I look to the extent of "swinger" bedlam that this could have displayed and feel like the filmmakers missed a beautiful opportunity. On the other hand, I can't help but applaud them for NOT succumbing to the stereotype I have appropriated to it. Regardless, from a comedic standpoint this film achieves what it set out to do. I wish that the script had detailed the lives of the other characters a little more intensely. We find the idiosyncrasies of John Favreau?s and Vince Vaughn's character, but the other's seem rather stale, not to mention the fact that they could have proved to have very interesting back stories. Otherwise, though, this film is very, very fun--sometimes digressing into some extreme examples of humor that don't perfectly flow with the remainder of the film (the answering machine), but it never depletes from the experience. Most of the time, the film stays true to the slacker, party boys of LA, and all the sloth, Sega Ice Hockey, and TV pilot auditions in between the parties. One aspect that cannot be praised highly enough, however, is that this film does not fall pray to the bane of most slacker comedies: a sappy, melodramatic climax. Swingers shuns this, and for that I praise it. When John Favreau's character does finally come around, and the audience witnesses his development and the catalysts that spur it, there is never a feeling of hokey, sentimentalism--and that, perhaps, is why this film has achieved such cult status. It can be enjoyed by all demographics, without concern for gender, age, or interest. And so with this honest, cringe-free, and hilarious interpretation of the party boys of LA, one can't help but fall in love with almost everything this film has to offer. There are a lot of turns, interesting situations, and peculiar incidents that maintain the light-hearted side of the film, but there is also enough attention to the labor of love, without going over the top with theatrical rhetoric on the subject. The film may not stand as your favorite in life, but most out there will probably find a lot to enjoy in this little film--and a lot to relate to.
