Review: people actually think the farrelly brothers are comedic geniuses?? please...if this is funny, than the three stooges films were art...i got this film through a video club and suffered through this...i was literally looking for opportunities to laugh out loud...the farrellys only asset is seeing how much they can gross people out. i like ben stiller, but the scene with the hair gel, made me want to question his sanity for taking the role...i can name 10 actress who more talented and better looking than cameron diaz...a note to the farrellys: rent some cohens brothers films, and see how real comedy is made... this one bites hard...

Review: This movie wasn't as good as people made it out to be. Most of the funnier parts are ruined in the previews. Regardless, there are a few places to make you laugh. I don't think the outakes are very funny. He's an idea to remember; an outake isn't in the original film since it wasn't funny enough to be there in the first place. I would suggest a rental.

Review: Ben Stiller plays a likable boy who still loves his high school prom date, twenty years after he has seen her. Hiring a slimy private detective, he locates her in Florida and drivers down there to renew their romance. Love is in the air, and their romance begins to bloom again. This is a comedy? Yes! The hilarity is in the detail. In particular, comedies are funny when they catch us off guard. Again and again, "Something about Mary" does exactly that. It surprises the viewer in a very funny way. If you have heard about this movie, the best bits in the movie probably have been spoiled already. I won't do that here. What I will do it is try to compare "Mary" to the other films out there today. First, I didn't like the earlier Farly Movies much. Dumb and Dumber, for example, was funny sometimes. But, it was hit and miss and, for me, it missed more then it hit. "Mary" is consistently funny. "Mary" doesn't depend on slapstick alone. It turns and weaves an interesting story with some believable surprises. Reading this review, it feels very dry. Trust me, the movie is not. I think it was ground breaking and revolutionary. I would rank this movie with "Blazing Saddles," "Caddyshack" and "Animal House." They were all classics of their day. Of them, I liked Animal House the best. "Something About Mary" is as good today, as "Animal House" was back then. Of course, if you didn't like Animal House, you might now want to see this film. For me, they were all very funny. Mary is a welcome addition. You should see it and enjoy.

Summary: OK, not great
Review: Ben Stiller is appealing in his role as a slightly nerdish character who has a crush on former high school classmate Mary (Caneron Diaz). He hires a sleazeball private investigator to find her. Predictably enough, the investigator develops a crush on her too and pulls every cheap trick in the book to steal her away. Quite frankly the film drags as the sleazeball tries to steal Mary's affections. It seems to just go on and on. The premise is carried on until it gets boring and tiresome. There are some hilarious scenes including Stiller's wild misadventures on his trip to Florida (where Mary is now located) as he drives down to reunite with her. However, some of the humor is less than sophmoric. For example, a scene in which Mary mistakes semen for hairgel is disgusting and I fail to see any real humor in it. Also, I judge a DVD by additional scenes and other features appended to it. This DVD has a lot of dopey outakes. There is nothing particularly funny or appealing about them. This movie is OK but I can only give it a luke warm recommendation.

Review: Watchout for any braindead friend you have that will never stop telling you that this is the 'greatest' comedy of all time. In actuality it's pretty lame. I could have very well lived a full and happy life without seeing this movie that takes it so-so jokes and tries to ram them down your throat. It's got a few chuckles, but for the most part you just wait patiently for it to end.

Summary: Why does anyone like this dreadful movie?
Review: This movie is truly one worst films ever made. Grossly miscast as an orthopedic surgeon, Cameron Diaz has one of the most moronic laughs in the business. She uses it inappropriately throughout the film. Who can sit through a film with Ben Stiller masturbating like Roth's Portnoy, and chasing Diaz around like an imbicile? Matt Dillon is okay, but has damaged his career by making this dog.

Summary: Great performances for cardboard characters
Review: Every actor and comic in this film does a fine job, though I think Matt Dillon makes for the best comic revelation. The real problem is that the directors string the story along in such away that the icky parts just annoy the viewer and flatten the attempts to develop the characters. The actors just become little plastic toys for the directors to move around in funny positions. In a way, the movie suffers from its own notoriety. The so-called outrageousness, so well publicized, distracts the story. Enjoy the film for the other, less well-known scenes, and it makes for a worthy rental.
