Summary: Anthony Michaels review of "How the Grinch stole Christmas"
Review: This was a perfect example of a movie that is trying to hard to be funny, and is using violence to get the movie into the theader. I honestly wish I could say that I liked the movie, because it was very creative, the acting was great, the makeup and sets were fantastic... but I can't say that I liked this movie. The old Grinch movie was a classic, along with Dr. Suess' masterpiece. But, this movie just wasn't much of a classic. Unfortunatly, I know that review will most likely make people mad. I can't help that. I've got to say what I think. Jim Carrey, however, did a great job protraying the Grinch....

Summary: Do you know how the Grinch stole Christmas?
Review: For all you Christmas lovers this would be a great film for you. The Grinch is a great film which everybody enjoyed. Children under the age of five might find The Grinch abit frghtening to look at but there is no need to be scared. The Grinch is a nice monster once you get to know him. This film really gets you in the Christmas mood. It would be a great film to watch on Christmas Eve.
I really, really really enjoyed the film. My mum and dad did as well. I can tell you that there not a film person, but they liked this one especially. I would say this is the best film I have seen. If you haven't seen the film yet, you must get it on video.

Review: I remember how it was a tradition to watch the cartoon version and read the book of this classic every Christmas. Now I know my family will watch this every year, too! I was wondering how they were going to turn a classic that takes 15 minuites to read slowly to a small child into a 2 hour movie. I was surprised at how creative this film was. They told alot of backround on characters I've grown to love like little Cindy Lu Who and The Grinch. I loved how they told the story of how the Grinch got so mean. Jim Carrey is seen here in his best performance ever! I know this movie will become a holiday classic! This is one of the best Christmas Gifts you can give this holiday season!

Summary: It's okay I guess ?
Review: Some parts were really sad and it's not funny at all either .
So like I said it's not funny . I think their just trying to make people laugh so I really wouldn't recommend this film to everyone . I mean it's okay but that's all you know !!!
But it's still a good christmas movie I MIGHT buy it ?

Summary: Reality imitating book caricature an film animation
Review: 9/30/01 As an applauder of Xmas(almost feeling really bad when we end the old year having to remember the sour notes with the Xmas choreling..The Grinch Who Stole Xmas ((AS Good As They Were.:book as well as cartoon animations), did not touch quite the same as the film, the total gut feeling we feel when we hear of Xmas pink slips, or other negative news after the 'joys of summer 'wane....Ron Howard and Jim Carey's film in my opinion will join the ranks of "Miracle on 34th Street" ,"Les Miserables", "It's A Good Life","The Wiz" and other films that remind us that there's still much sun on God's "Good Earth".

Summary: I. LOVE. THIS. MOVIE.!!! The BEST!
Review: Last year my mom and I went to see THE GRINCH. About three weeks before, I did something - I can't remember what - and so in
exchange my mom promised we'd go see The Grinch, on at least the
second day it was out.
Well, I waited and waited, and the second day came. Mom couldn't take me. Nor the next day, or the next, or the next. But
about two weeks later Mom FINALLY took me, and I LOVED it! Humor,
sad parts, slapstick scenes, and a good moral. I was twelve, at
the time, and so people didn't think I wouldn't understand the few adult parts, but I did.
My favorite Christmas movies ever are THE GRINCH, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS STORY, A CHRISTMAS CAROL,
It's a WoNDERFUL LIFE, RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, and that
one Garfield movie. I also love THE SANTA CLAUS, JINGLE ALL THE
WAY, SANTA WHO?, and THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER.
Take it from me; this movie is great. I'm gonna buy it the day
it comes out!

Review: This movie could have been so much better. It had everything going for it, when you think about it. Jim Carrey, Ron Howard, a good score and a big budget.

I tried looking at this movie from both angles: as an independent film and as a remake. I don't know in which department it failed more. The whole thing feels frantic and unsettling. I felt like I had too much coffee watching it.

They could have made it so powerful, such a touching, funny classic. Consider the ending. Why not tell Carrey to let up for at least one scene? Let Faith Hill's voice (or just the music) swell, then show the Grinch lifting the gifts with tears running down his face. Or when his heart grew three sizes, don't turn it into another sight gag. Use it! Let the movie have some charm! Let people walk out of the movie with the joy of Christmas in them.

Another thing wrong with this movie. There is not enough contrast in all the characters. The Grinch is not a bad person; he is just misunderstood. The Whos are supposed to be protagonists, but they are greedy and self-focused. And that whole love thing between the Grinch and Martha May was pointless and unneeded. The Grinch doesn't change at the end. He is still mean to the mayor. He gets together with the antagonist girl.
Who are you supposed to root for?

Carrey is funny, and he is his funniest when in moderation. You would think such a successful actor/comedian would have learned by now. Maybe Ron Howard gave him too much freedom in the movie. Maybe he respected him too much.

It is such a shame. Hollywood only got one shot at it, and they blew it. I suggest we all try to forget it ever happened.

Summary: 'THE GRINCH' Mean, green, but luster leaves a dull sheen
Review: One of the most hyped Thanksgiving releases dare I say of All-Time, Dr. Seusss "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" finally makes it's way to the big screen. As if the classic animated "Grinch" wasn't enough, there are many things to love about Ron Howard's take on this classic Holiday fable, and there's a little to hate about it.

First off, Jim Carrey is fantastic! Not one Who-doubt about it!Under all that make-up is one of the few Hollywood actors who can totally absorb himself into the character he is playing, and pulling off such a coveted role as the Grinch is quite an accomplishment. Rick Baker's Academy Award-winning make-up work also deserves much praise! Carrey is almost unrecognizable! The visual aspects of the movie are high, and as far as set and costume design go. The movie was very faithful to the book in that respect.

WHO-EVER, what the original book and animated short did for Suess' original theme and concept of the Grinch, the movie tends to overblow it.... The charm and subtle magic of the book is frantically lost in the movie's sub-plots and side-plots. The Grinch seems aimlessly over-dramatized from the original book and animated short.

But for what the Grinch is on film, it really is wonderful! I saw the movie twice last Christmas and enjoyed it just the more everytime. Despite the fact that the charm of the Grinch is lost because Hollywood Claus came to town, Ron Howard, Rick Baker, and Jim Carrey pull the Who-sleigh along quite nicely, making "The Grinch" a great all-around movie.

Summary: The Best
Review: Having grown up with The Grinch, it always bothered me - it was just so scary. Now this is one of my all time favorite shows (even though Jim C. is not my favorite) - my husband and kids went three times to this, which is very unusual. I can't wait to buy this on DVD!
