Summary: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Review: "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" certainly got a tremendous amount of mileage out of only one joke. And that one joke, as Leonard Maltin accurately noted, gets "beaten to death for another eighty-five minutes." I suspect that the "star" of this film had to have been genetically altered because, for all of its hype as a hilarious "cult classic," this tomato is a real "lemon." Don't waste your time, or your money.

Summary: Made to Be Bad and It Succeeds!
Review: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was an attempt to make the worst movie of all times (the hoped to beat Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space). It is hard to tell which is worse, but there is a certain appeal to Tomatoes (and not just the wonderful theme song).

A genetic experiment gets out of hand and tomatoes turn on humans. The government wants to keep things quiet so the hire Mason Dixon to lead the investigation. But soon the tomatoes are everywhere and the army seems powerless to stop them.

The end of the film mas seem familiar to a larger-budget invasion film (I won't tell you which, but they did it in Tomatoes first). According to the credits, the scene contains "Every nutcase in San Diego." Even the San Diego Chicken makes an appearance (and he was really big at the time).

The whole film is full of gags (visual and spoken) in a way that makes one believe that the movie spawned the Airplane franchise. A favorite is when the dubbed Japanese scientist accidently knocks a picture of the USS Arizona into a fish tank. When the giant tomatoes attack, look for the stage hands pushing them from behind.

Just remember that this film is intended to be bad.

Summary: One of the best Movies ever made (only because I am in it)
Review: Being a local San Diegan when the movie was made, I had the chance to be in it. I was just a young lad at the time, and I am in a crowd scene, but I AM IN IT!!!!! This movie inspired my group of friends to go on and make other stupidly funny movies that we of course have kept to ourselves. See it and laugh, because thats why the movie was made.

Summary: Not a perfect DVD release...but close
Review: Call me sad, but I've been a fan of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes ever since I saw the last half of it on Elvira when I was a pre-teen. It was one of the first pre-recorded videos I bought. I've probably seen the film at least 20 times. So, needless to say, I was quite happy when I saw that the film was going to be released on DVD.
Like many, I was disappointed that the original version of the film was not on the disc. No, this is not the "director's cut" that was released by Buena Vista several years ago. It's a new cut that retains the overdubs and sound effects of the director's cut, while restoring the Mindmaker song. However, for some strange reason, a scene of Lois Fairchild being yelled at by her boss is missing from this version. Oh well, in any version this film is a fun waste of time if you don't take it seriously (and with that title how could you).
The DVD extras are great. The commentary is entertaining but I wish they would have said something about the several different versions of the film. The two super-8 short films are a hoot to watch and show the creative process that lead to the feature film. The documentaries are quite funny - and you'll be surprised by a few of the people they got to come back and talk about the film.
This would have easily rated five stars if only they had given us the option to view the original version.

Summary: FUNNY!
Review: Even thought the movies plot's not that great, the film itself is so funny you can't help but love it. The songs are incredibly stupid, so are the characters, storyline, and pretty much everything else about the movie, but it's great! It even has great sequals! At least that's something Hollywood's never done.

Summary: WARNING!!!
Review: Fans of the original cut of this movie will want to steer clear. This is the awful director's cut that was released by Buena Vista. There are some scenes from that not in it, but there are some that are. Most prominent and annoying are the sound FX and dubbed voices from that release which completely ruin the movie. Nowhere on the package or DVD itself does it say this is the director's cut but I can assure that is what it is. Releasing the director's cut of this beloved movie is one of the worst decisions ever in DVD history and whoever had the bright idea to do this should be shunned. Teach them a lesson by refusing to buy this edition. If I had known ahead of time this was the director's cut I would have turned my back on this release instead of anticipating it. Now, here I am halfway through the movie and full of rage. Shame upon John Debello, shame.

Summary: I laughed myself to death.
Review: Hey it's so dumb it's funny. Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes is not only a satrie of B-horror movies. It makes fun of the advertisers, the news media, teen idols(Puberty Love would even make Tiny Tim pull his hair out, and even the Tomatoes hate the song just as much), Broadway Musicals, and even the Opera. Several movies get spoofed here including Lassie, Jaws, and even Superman.

Attack of The Killer Tomatoes, is just bad satire all the way though. You will laugh youself to death the frist time you see it. I did!

Summary: Only one complaint
Review: I got this video because I live in San Diego, and that's where I live. But that is beside the point: the only complaint I have about this video is that it isn't available in DVD!
