Rating: Summary: Daft but funny! Review: Funny eighties take-off of a rather boring Tv series. Dan Aykroyd plays Joe Friday (perfectly I might add), the straight faced cop and Tom Hanks plays Pep Streebek, the rebel cop. Kinda stupid comedy but it works well and makes a very funny film. My favourite scene being the one where Emil Muzz drives over Friday's feet, the face he makes is a classic comedy moment!
Rating: Summary: GOOD NATURED COMEDY Review: I first saw this film when it came out when I was just a kid. I suppose you could say I've grown up watching films like this and THE 'BURBS and other AYKROYD/CHASE/HANKS comedies. This one however always makes me laugh. There are so many funny scenes. A film like that I can enjoy for a long time.
Rating: Summary: A bust for Joe Friday. Review: I like Aykroyd and Hanks as actors and Aykroyd has typed some witty scripts like Ghostbusters, but Dragnet falls flatter than a lead balooon. The chemistry between these two actors never really ignites in this spoof of the original TV series. Aykroyd does a paradoy of the original Joe Friday part, and its stiff as a wing collar with only occassional flashes of comedy. Hanks tries to compensate with a very loose depiction of a cop (Pep Streebek) and Joe Friday's partner. Funny is Dabney Coleman as Jerry Caesar, a porn multi-millionaire who gets police protection because his publications have been the target of arsonists. The scene with Friday and Streebek interviewing Jerry Ceaser at his mansion with starlets roaming the grounds is humorous. The case they have to bust (a gang called the Pagans) is pretty much formulae stuff and has its moments. Alexandra Paul plays the virgin Connie Swail, the girl Friday falls for changing his life. Christopher Plummer does an evangelical turn as Reverend Jonathan Whirley (with another side to him). I appreciate Aykroyd was putting a spin on the role of Joe Friday, but in my view it just doesn't come off - add a lightweight script and it spells "mistake".
Rating: Summary: DA DA DA DA DUM!!!! Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE THIS MOVIE IS PAINFULLY FUNNY. I LOVE IT TO PIECES . I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE IS A MUST HAVE. I LIKED THE WHOLE MOVIE FROM BEGINNING TO END. I LOVE TOM HANKS (PEP) DAN A.(FRIDAY) THEY ARE BOTH FUNNY . DABNEY COLEMAN IS EVEN FUNNY IN THIS MOVIE I LOVE IT I LAUGH SO MUCH WHENEVER I WATCH THIS I START TO CRY. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO LIKES CLASSIC TOM HANKS MOVIES IT IS A MUST HAVE.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Movie!! Review: I love this movie!! I never get tired of watching it, and crack up whenever I do.Aykroyd and Hanks make a great team, total opposites, Hanks being the footloose, funny one, and Aykroyd playing the straight, by the book cop. Their antics are so funny you forget the bizarre plot, plus the references the series are well placed as well. What more can I say? Its hilarious, watch and you will crack up.
Rating: Summary: Only Average - Episodes Of The Classic TV Show Are Better Review: No need to spend your life watching average movies. If you like classic Dragnet, better to spend your time locating episodes of the classic TV show which are excellent.
Rating: Summary: Full Screen? Review: The cover box says it's widescreen but when played, it's in full screen 8( This is not the first time I had this problem, happened to my Beverly Hills Complete Line-up collection too. Well, I still give it 5 stars since it's DRAGNET!!!

Rating: Summary: A Gem In Its Own Right: Dragnet Is As Bad As It is Good Review: The formula for laughs in this one is basically the old cliche of basically a good-cop bad-cop(Friday good and Strebek bad) relationship with a bunch of funny twists. Aykroyd is funny as the by-the-book-cop Friday spouting penal code from memory and Hanks is funny as the flashy hip officer that probably never read the book to begin with. That contrast sure is not original(It's black and white, too obvious) but in this case the laughs mount when these two of L.A's finest meet up with the Virgin Connie Swayle, the well respected T.V reverend, and the porn distribution engineer(Long distance pimp). Friday and Strebek are challenged with the task of uncovering the vile scheme of the T.V reverend who wants to both fight the porn industry and control it to his benefit at the same time. The concept is very hilarious but in some parts it drags a bit.(The grandmother scene was not funny.) The way the fight against PAGAN(The reverend's secret cult) ends is the funniest part of the entire movie. The punchline at the end of the movie, like Amazon said in their review, is a combustable laugher.(Not in their words, of course) Trust me, you will laugh harder at that than any other part of this flick.
Rating: Summary: Dull with flashes of humor Review: There's a lot of potential in this film, as in many of Aykroyd's efforts, for deft satire; and as in so many of his films, only the most obvious gags are deployed along the way. Some jokes work, but when they don't, or in the long stretches in between, there's simply nothing to draw and hold the interest. In Webb's style, Aykroyd achieves the remarkable feat of overacting restraint. Hanks is at least personable, but not much more. Plummer is wonderfully nasty, and the film has a large budget to display. There's a lot of bloat here, however, and you can't help thinking that the main result of this film was a series of truly wild parties for all concerned in its production.
