Summary: This is a sweet and simple movie
Review: I grew up on the old corny black & white classics. I love a corny movie. My mother, my sister, her 10 year old daughter and I went to see this movie together. We all enjoyed it and it fun to be able to see a movie without cringing at what will be said or shown. We were not worried about the "you are only accepted if you fix yourself up", message. Sorry, that is the message of the world or we would not have a billion dollar beauty industry.

I am a sucker for a Princess movie. What woman or girl hasn't dreamed of being a Princess. This movie gave the character Mia a new and hip twist. I hope Disney makes another movie.

Summary: Read the books first!
Review: Having just seen The Princess Diaries for the first time, I have several different thoughts on the movie, but first and foremost I am glad I read the books before seeing it.

The movie is entertaining. It is also quite sweet and charming, but that tends in my opinion to be its downfall rather than a strength. The books are engaging and laugh-out-loud funny, whereas the story here is drastically altered and toned down, so most of the laughs are no longer there. Anne Hathaway is very pretty and appealing as leading lady Mia Thermopolis, but her performance is sort of bland. Julie Andrews is far sweeter as her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi, than the deliciously evil character of "Grandmére" depicted in the Princess Diaries books. These weaknesses are somewhat compensated for by the addition of two great original characters: Joe (Hector Elizondo), who drives Princess Mia's royal limousine, and Mia's eccentric neighbor Mr. Robitussin. Also fun to watch is Paolo, Mia's royal hairdresser, who always refers to himself in the third person. I regret that I was unable to catch the names of these last two actors.

All in all, The Princess Diaries is an enjoyable film that you will probably like seeing, but the books are better.

Summary: A worthwhile movie that is compelling enough to watch again
Review: I do not agree with the previous reviewer who says this movie is disgusting. It seems to me that he's misread it. Obviously the guy has fallen in love with Mia before she gets a make-over.
Make sure you notice these two self-evident scenes:

No.1: the chorus is rehearsing. Michael looks up and find that as if Mia is gazing at him,so he seems to be caught unprepared.

No.2: Mia goes to check out how much it would cost to get her beat-on car fixed. Michael offers a free labor and the car mechanic Doc seems amazed. After Mia has left, Doc chaff him, saying"Ooh...You're sweet on her? " From the way he offers explanation, the way he gazes at Mia's receding figure, everyone can easily conclude that Michael is in love with Mia.

So please do not keep your kids from it,for it's simply sweet.

Summary: I just didn't like it...
Review: I agree with the previous reviewer who says this film sends the wrong message about beauty and acceptance. But films don't always have to be PC, as long as they're good. This one was not. I found the story and acting corny and awkward. And the younger actors in this film were really, REALLY annoying--talk about overacting. What a bunch of spazzes!

Summary: Great Movie
Review: I loved this movie!!!
It is funny and it really makes you feel good all over. Even my dad, who is not into these movies (like most guys), loved it.

Summary: Lovely, but could have been better...
Review: More love, a better Mother, a grandmother who might have loved her the tiniest bit BEFORE she's about to be princess.... ahem.
None of the magic of the Sound of Music that's for sure.
The best scenes are the pygmalion (sp?) scenes where Anne Hathaway's character "Mia" is transforming from ugly duckling into swan - that goes by TOO fast. It's downhill from there. It could have been really great with the love story made more of a part of the story.

Summary: Disgusting.
Review: Am I the only person who was sickened by this film? A "family film"? If I had a daughter, I wouldn't let her within 20ft of this movie. Mia (Anne) is supposed to be uncool- we know this from her frizzy hair and clumsiness. But once she gets a make-over, with her hair straightened and her eyebrows plucked, her life is suddenly better. Because she is pretty and a princess, people suddenly like her, and she gets the guy. Of course, we all know he wouldn't have even looked at her before she got her make-over. Is this what we are teaching young girls? That being happy depends on their physical beauty? The whole concept is disgusting.

Review: This Movie was great for young girls!
But wasn't that great for anyone older.
But it was quite enjoyable!

Summary: Great Movie for the whole family
Review: This is a great movie. I plan to buy the new widescreen version to see what I have been missing on the full screen version. I have watched it at least 6 times. It is a movie you can watch over and over like Legally Blonde or Clueless. Highly Recommended

Summary: Hilarious, funny, and surprising!
Review: I enjoyed this movie very much. It is about an unattractive, nervous girl named Mia (Anne Hathaway) Thermopolis. One day, Mia's mother tells her that Mia's rich grandmother (Julie Andrews)is in town. Mia goes to her grandmother's place the next day for tea. While Mia is there, she recieves shocking news from her grandmother; her grandmother tells her she is the princess of Genovia! Mia's whole life changes from here. Everyday she takes 'princess lessons;'how to eat, dress, talk, walk, etc. like a princess. Mia becomes attractive and pretty, and is invited to beach party where she gets bullied. She also goes to her grandmother's party, where she causes trouble. Then just the day before the Genovia's Independence Day Ball, she has to make up her mind whether she would choose to be the princess of Genovia, or just an ordinary teenage girl.
I really enjoyed watching this movie. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews play their part really well. This movie is hilarious, and has a good ending.
