Summary: This one is on my personal "Top 100" list.
Review: Dramatically tight, sprinkled with poignant humor, this film deserves a great deal more attention than it has received. Yeah, McGregor is cute, and Tara Fitzgerald gives a nice performance -- but for deep character humor I will take Harry and Jim any day (Jim Carter -- Harry -- is also a hoot as the actor playing the Nurse in "Shakespeare in Love" - no euphonium!). But Stephen Thompkinson (Father Peter Clifford in "Ballykissangel") gives me chills when Phil, dressed in full "Mr. Chuckles" clown kit, boils over in front of the children at the church. All the rage at his helplessness coming out sideways -- a brilliant performance. This film is deeply effecting where "The Full Monty" is pleasantly diverting.

Summary: Yorkshire, t'band and the systematic destruction of indusrty
Review: 'Brassed Off' - a film overshadowed by 'The Full Monty' for the simple reason that where TFM focuses more on the comedy, leaving a tacit message, 'Brassed Off' is an effective combination of both. Yes, there's comedy and there's unquestionably very fine music. But what makes this a great film is the truth behind it. There are adaptations to make the story into a screenplay - especially with concessions to the music used and the potrayal of the band. But what is presented is an accurate impression of what life for so many has been like in the last two decades. Politics are a heavy issue in the film, but the comedy and the delivery mean they do not destroy it. The impact of this film has been destroyed by TFM. If you want to see a movie which portrays the effect of mass redundancy and a more believable caricature of true Yorkshire lads, then forget the Sheffield Steelworkers - watch the Grimley miners and their brass band.

Summary: Exellente
Review: Like most of Ewan McGregor`s films it extremely extemely amusing. There are many highlight in this film(too many to mention)like when the band attend a compotition where everything goes wrong, two emotional parts involving Danny and his son and Ewan McGregor is once again naked.

Summary: Tremendous film! Wonderful brass band music!
Review: I love British brass bands! If you like this kind of music, this is the film for you. The flugel horn solo was super. I could listen to the Flornetiner March 1,000 times!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I did not expect this movie to be so fabulously moving. The dual storylines of the mine closing and the band trying to succeed were perfect. I was glued to the screen with the volume blaring every time the band played. Although the entire cast was great, Pete Postlethwaite stole the show as the band conductor. I watched his speech at the finale is over and over, along with the scene with Rodrigo's haunting Concerto Aranjuez. Needless to say, I also own the soundtrack. Thanks to the writer/director for making such a human film.

Summary: Surprisingly touching, delightful and musical
Review: I rented this movie with no ideas about it, but it turned out to be one of my all-time favors. I paricularly like the way they rearraneged Rodrigo Aranjuez' guitar concerto for trumpet. The result was so unique that makes you wonder whether this Spanish music piece was originally written for trumpet or not. Good story and cheerful execution. You must see!

Summary: great
Review: I bought the video because I like brass band music. Just the sound of the opening music was already superb. Personally as a band player I recognized the tension during rehearsals and the tournament. Only the choice of the music during the tournament(William Tell Overture) wasn't that realistic

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Premise of the movie disguises how utterly charming it is!
Review: I must say that I went to see this movie solely because of Ewan McGregor, but I came away thoroughly entertained, slightly amused, and heartened of the human spirit. I doubt that there is anyone who can do this film justice in written word, but it was a fabulous movie.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Charming, funny, moving, lovely little film
Review: This is a delightful movie! Overshadowed by "The Full Monty," which was released the same year, this one is actually more affecting in many ways. Pete Postlethwaite is a wonder, Tara Fitgerald is luminous, the remaining cast is unparalled, and the script is terrific. You can't go wrong with this movie.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very entertaining with good music and story line.
Review: The movie begins with a glum premise(the potential of people losing their jobs). The story, however, doesn't keep you from enjoying. The different characters and the musical segments are great. I highly recommend it.
