Summary: Don't listen to the "critics"
Review: I think it odd that the movie critics trashed this "megahit" If it sucked so bad, why did everyone go to see it. I think that this is one of Eddie's best early comedies, with subtle humor that makes the movie even funnier. At times the movie seems slow, but overall it is a funny movie and well worth buying.

Summary: hey now, i really enjoy this movie...
Review: it makes a perfect triple feature on any comedy/fright night:
ghostbusters, the golden child, and big trouble in little china... three tongue in cheek campy horror/action flicks.

Summary: Don't listen to the negative reviews, remember ID4?
Review: It may not be the best Eddie Murphy movie ever, but it is one of my favorites. Although the critics say it's terrible, that's their opinion. They also trashed "Independence Day" a few years ago. It's all a matter of personal taste. 'Nuff said, go rent the movie first and see for yourself and tell me it's not entertaining!

Summary: If you like John Carpenter, you might like this film
Review: John Carpenter has always been my favorite director and I will defend his films to the end. I love the atmosphere he injects into his stylish, dark films. On that note I have always liked The Golden Child. I'm not huge Eddie Murphy fan but there's always something about this film I liked. It has a certain quirkiness to it that reminded me of some Carpenter classics as Big Touble in Little China. Well, I recently bought a John Carpenter book and it said that he was actually going to direct the film at first but backed out. Well no wonder I like this picture. It's a shame he never directed it as it might of turned out even more interesting, but I am glad he decided to do Big Trouble in Little China instead.

Review: Liked the mix of Adventure, Action, Comedy, with a touch of Horror. Eddie did a fine job of keeping me interested even after seeing the movie several times, it's still fun to watch.

Summary: Great Murphy flick
Review: Murphy was so popular before this flick came out, somebody wrote at the time, that he could survive if it flopped. "Golden Child" was a commercial disappointment and it did hurt him. To this day, I don't know why.

Murphy is Chandler Jerroll - an LA-based PI with a flip attitude on anything. He's a hero of the city of angels, but he's no angel himself. In short, he is the "chosen one", the foretold hero destined to save the "golden child" from evil. While Jerroll searches LA for lost children, the enchanted golden child rises in spiritual purity in a snowy monastery in the Himalayas. The wicked forces of Sardo Numspar (Charles Dance) invade the monastery and, after overrunning the monks, spirit the boy away in a cage. The boy, it turns out, is one of a line of divine lamas upon whom the world rests, and whom evil must destroy. Dark Forces had already claimed other golden children. With the loss of the "bringer of justice", the death of another golden child will plunge the world into hell. Why Murphy is the "Chosen One" (and who's doing the choosing here?) are subjects the script keeps wisely away from. Instead, what we get is a deft mix of high adventure and comedy. It shouldn't work at all, but Murphy mugs on cue and can handle the preposterousness of the situation - a modern LA guy having to battle the forces of evil. The joke of the flick is that Eddie Murphy is the Chosen One - only a comically refined mind could effectively mix the fun and action like he does. Crude special effects aside, the fantasy mixes well with the comedy, and Murphy's light touch plays well off of the evil Numspar and Charlotte Lewis as Jerrol's love interest. This is simply an underappreciated classic.

Summary: LOVE This Movie!
Review: Okay, yes, this movie is a bit screwball, so if you don't like silly comedies which have very little basis in reality then this probably isn't your cup-o-tea. However, for me, this movie has produced some of the funniest and most memorable movie lines ever. Personally, I think this is one of Eddie's funniest - right up there with Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and rent it, at least!

Summary: The Bald Magical Child
Review: Perhaps the success of GHOSTBUSTERS was the inspiration for THE GOLDEN CHILD to mix comedy and horror fantasy. GHOSTBUSTERS had all the elements in perfect sync and THE GOLDEN CHILD is very uneven. Many of reviewers and moviegoers reaction to the movie was basically, to paraphrase many quotes, "Eddie Murphy was great and funny...but the story and plot was stupid!" It was reported that Eddie Murphy hated the out-of-country location shoots and it shows. His character, Chandler Jarrell is the reluctant hero who is a social worker and part time finder of missing children. Chandler is chosen (by divine providence) to find and save a magical child from kidnappers who are in the league with evil. There is an uncomfortable fantasy-supernatural, dream sequence that makes no sense in the context of the story. Also, in the final leg of the film, the stop-motion animated effects of a bat-winged demon and an actual "dragon lady" seems to be out of place and unexpected. The film takes its subject too seriously with Eddie Murphy winking at the audience. With his character's disbelief of the whole absurdity of the situation, maybe it was a tough sell for the audiences. Overall, a movie that showcases the early brilliance of Eddie Murphy but his comedy does not gel wit the rest of the film.

Summary: Good comedy entertainment
Review: Raymond Charrell(Murphy) must rescue the Golden Child in order to save the world from the Devil(Dance).

He is helped by a girl(Lewis) who told him that he is the chosen one.

So he goes to Nepal to find the sacred Adjanti dagger the only can destroy the devil and save the child.

As always Murphy fast speech and comic gestures are well welcome as he says Gimme the knife, please! the best in all the movie.

A worth view of an expensive Dvd with no extras only the trailer.

Enjoy!
