Rating: Summary: You mean I can ONLY give it 5 out of 5 stars? Review: Possibly only next to Peter Sellers THE MOUSE THAT ROARED, this has to be the most ingenious film of all time. It's simply a shame that they have yet to release it on DVD (and yet they carry Adam Sandler films? what should this tell us about intellegence and sophistication in America?). Oh, well, I'll just have to buy another copy of the film and press it to DVD myself. The only trouble with this film is that, since Barry Levinson took his time writing it, it shows wit and compassion on so many levels that I doubt the average American intellect could understand the film. Most people that I enjoy being around find this to be one of the funniest films in existence. Leonard Maltin must not have understood it, which is odd, because Roger Ebert did.
Rating: Summary: Fun Fantasy-a Flight of Fancy Review: From the visuals to the soundtrack, this movie amazes on many levels, yet is very difficult to classify. Encompassing comedy, fantasy, romance, and slight political commentary elements probably helped contribute to some peoples' dislike. I let myself get immersed into the world presented to me, and enjoy every minute. The visual details are outstanding. I applaud everyone involved.
Rating: Summary: The most magnificent thrilling movie of all time. Review: When I first saw this movie I almost fell off the chair laughing. It is one of the best movie that I've seen in a long time. After the twenth time seeing it I still love it.
Rating: Summary: This is what movies are about. Review: If you didn't laugh and cry you missed the whole movie. Watch it again! After twenty times I'd say this is my favorite movie of all time.
Rating: Summary: The most underated film Review: Toys, is the most underated film and deserves more credit than most everyone gives it. This movie is full of symobilsm and cunning humor which is often unoticed by the average viewer. Robin Williams is absolutly brilliant and LLCOOL J does a surprisingly wonderful job as well. If you love Robin Williams' "Under the breath humor" then this movie is a must!
Rating: Summary: BEAUTIFUL IMAGES AND MUSIC Review: I ENJOYED THE HUMOR AND PATHOS IN THIS SUPPOSED COMEDY. THE OPENING SCENE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE MOVIE. THE DANCE AND MUSIC ARE EMOTIONALLY MOVING.
Rating: Summary: A terrifically well-scored movie Review: I loved this movie from the opening scenes all the way to the closing credits. Although I'm a big fan of both Williams and Cusack, the soundtrack was what really made the movie for me. Trevor Horne and Hans Zimmer did a tremendous job on this.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Surrealistic Journey Review: This is one of the most entertaining and imaginative movies I have ever seen. Being a fan of surrealism, the scenery proves amazing and visually fulfilling. Toys is entertaining on multiple levels. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: I'd Recommend It Review: "Laughter Is A State Of Mind" just may be true. Every outdoor scene is pretty consisting of fields and blue skies. There are some funny scenes with a big toy factory making this a strange film. Which is good. It HAD to be funny because Robin Williams is the funniest man alive. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not to be taken seriously either. This is pure fantasy to begin with.
The film starts with "Closing Of The Year", a nice christmas song. Then Michael Gambon comes to the factory to talk with the founder of Zevo Toys. That's how it starts off and goes into the film with fun performances by Robin Williams and Joan Cusack. I'm recommending this movie for everyone. Here's the gig with Michael Gambon: He is given the toy factory and wants to set up military toys which were never made at Zevo. But he gets a little carried away with everything. You only need to read the title and see it. You will probably be blown away by this movie.
Rating: Summary: What would be wrong with a world of Toys? Review: I'm just curious to know how many people really feel that we should just be blowing apart anyone who doesn't agree with his/her way of life? Degrading our military? Hardly! Honestly, folks, this is a movie! A movie about when force and power get out-of-hand. A movie about the power of people who believe in a better future. And better than a fun colorful touching story about innocence and toys, it hints that perhaps there IS something better. That perhaps someday we won't need to send our children into war, that perhaps someday we won't need to attack BEFORE we are attacked. Maybe, just maybe someday Milton the Friendly Elephant will replace a handgun in the hands of innocent victims protecting their families and lives. The truth is, just as the movie portrays, deadly force is the way to be powerful, to be strong. But remember all the stories and all the fables we were taught as children. That good will win. This movie was not an attack on those that protect our way of life. It was a nod that sometimes childhood toys must be put away, but will someday return and that the anger of the world will be turned into rejoycing. We do not WANT to attack other nations, we simply want to protect freedom, protect our way of life. In the end, they DID send the toys to war, and many of them would not return, but they did it because it had come time to prove their quality, their truth. That joy and innocence would prevail
