Summary: Great Sequel
Review: Dr. Dolittle 2 unlike most sequels was quite entertaining and fun to watch.
In Dr. Doolittle 2, Dr. Dolittle (Eddie Murphy) is now well known for his ability to talk to animals. Early on, a gang of local forest critters request Dr. Dolittle's help in saving their forest from a lumber company. Doolittles wife (Kristen Wilson) is an attorney and agrees to work on the case. They secure a deal that if Dr. Dolittle can successfully integrate a pair of endangered Pacific bears into the forest within 30 days, the forest will be spared. Unfortunately the only bachelor Pacific bear is a circus bear named Archie who sings better than he hunts.
The entire Dolittle family leaves for a cabin in the woods so the Dr. can be close by to help Archie.
Archie is hillarous and perfect as a forest misfit with a mission.
There's lots of verbal interaction with animals throughout the movie but it seemed at times like Dr. D was looking into the distance when interacting with forest inhabitants.
Although Eddie Murphy is usually quite funny, his antics are not always appropriate for young children. I thought Dr. Doolittle 2 rating of PG was appropriate and most families would enjoy watching.
The ending might suggest another sequel, and if as good as the second will be worth seeing.

Summary: Dr Doolittle 2
Review: The sequel to the very popular DR DOOLITTLE delivers again in DR DOOLITTLE 2. Eddie Murphy and Norm McDonald return in this great family comedy. You can bet that there are more great laughs and again that same cute comedy is in this one.

John Doolittle (Murphy) now a world renowned medical doctor for both humans and animals is called to action because an endangered species of bears is becoming more at risk. It's up to Dr Doolittle to find a perfect mating pair and get them to mate. He has one problem though, the male bear that he finds is Archie (Steve Zahn) and he's been in captivity all his life and doesn't know anything about living in the wild. It's up to Dr Doolittle and Lucky (Norm McDonald) to teach Archie the ropes so that he can become a wild bear and mate with a female.

I thought that this one had it's share of laughs. The little iguana is really funny and Archie the bear is pretty funny too. Plus the rest of the animals in the forest are pretty funny. My only problem is that as usual, a ferret is portraying a weasel. Although ferrets are very closely related to them, It was a bit silly on why they didn't just get a weasel. And a cameo by the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin doesn't hurt.

This is another great family comedy that kids will love not only for the animals but because it has a lot of child related comedy and adults will laugh at this one too. Check out DR DOOLITTLE 2 and don't forget to get DR DOOLITTLE!

Review: Absolutely hilarious! Eddie at his best and the animals are superb! A must-see follow up to Dr. Dolittle! Add it to your collection for years of laughs!

Summary: Very funny
Review: This movie is, without a doubt, geared towards kids and teens. It features Eddie Murphy back as the doctor who can talk to animals. He must re-introduce a circus bear into the wild to save a species of bear and also the forest. Steve Zahn does the voice of Archie (the circus bear), who is hilariously opposed to living in the wild again after years of tv, music, tu-tus, and his own trailer. Now Archie must learn how to hunt, fish, fight, run, hibernate, and attract the attention of the only female in the forest.

The Doc's daughters have grown up now, too. His rebellious teen daughter's boyfriend comes with the Doc and his family into the forest and tries all month to pull a move on his girl - but the Doctor finds a funny way to stop him.

This movie is filled with plenty of slapstick humor and dumb jokes that make 8-14 year olds crack up. it also has the occasional "adult" joke that keep parents on their feet. Overall, it is a worthy watch.

Summary: contaminating the minds of America's youth
Review: As a sixteen year old watching Doctor Dolittle 2, I was expecting to see a movie full of good clean fun for kids. Unfortunately, all I saw were the openly expressed politics aimed at molding young minds into a very liberal way of thinking.

Doctor Dolittle was undoubtably concocted by liberals to further their environmental agenda. If you are skeptical, let me give you a brief outline of the movie.

First, we see a doctor who can talk to animals. This skill comes in handy when the doctor is consulted by animals concerned about the fact that their homes are being destroyed by evil lumber companies. The good doctor agrees to help fight for the animals in order to save their homes. To accomplish this task, Doctor Dolittle must mate two endangered bears in the forest. If the two bears have cubs, then the evil industrialists would be forced to abandon their ambitions.
And so despite the attempts by those sinister developers to sabatage the doctor's plans, he mates the bears and the forest is saved. At one point, when the animals organize, a developer actually says "I have fought the Democrats, so I can fight animals." Could the producers make it any more obvious that the developers are Republicans? And would it be racist to point out that all the "good guys" are black and all of the "bad guys" are wealthy whites?

This movie is politics aimed at young children, and references to them are not at all subtle. Does the movie ever once mention how stupid it is to halt harvest of an entire forest in order to save two bears? Does it touch on the fact that wood is an extremely valuable resource that must be harvested for the survival of America? Does it speak of the jobs that will be lost in the lumber companies due to the setback? Of course not. This movie just goes to show how liberal Hollywood really is. If your family is on the left of the political spectrum, you should love this movie. If not, the movie wouldn't be worth the price of the shipping.

Summary: Fun to watch
Review: When I heard about the storyline to "Dr. Dolittle 2", I couldn't help but laugh and decide before I even thought about watching it, that it wouldn't be as good as the original. I mean, how can a film in which Dr. Dolittle (Eddie Murphy) is now settled in his role with talking to the animals, and one in which he has to find a way to get a circus bear and a normal female bear in the woods (both the same endangered species) to breed in order to keep the entire forest from being cut down, be a good movie?

But alas, "Dr. Dolittle 2" proved me wrong. It takes it awhile to get going, but once it does, the laughs keep on coming. Like the Amazon.com review says, this movie is geared mostly toward kids, but it can at least be very entertaining to adults as well. For instance, in one part of the movie, an offer is made from the human enemies to the animals. Deciding that the offer was blahful, a raccoon (one of the animals' spokesmen) walks over and urinates on the paper. Dr. Dolittle himself then says "I think that's a no. Maybe a hell no." That was hilarious.

And there are a few other parts and lines in "Dr. Dolittle 2" that will have you laughing your blank off, whether you're 10 or 100. There are also a few dramatic side quests that the great Dr. Dolittle will have to deal with in his quest to save a habitat.

Whether it's the drama or the comedy, "Dr. Dolittle 2" works, overall. It might not have the magic or the originality of the blockbuster original, but I'd say that it's just as good, if not better, than the original. What I mostly look for when I'm watching a comedy movie is how funny it is, and "Dr. Dolittle 2" is just that, funny.

Summary: Dr Do Who?
Review: I enjoy taking my (now) 8 year-old daughter to kid movies. Most are done so as to be entertaining for adults with parts we can enjoy that go over a kids head. (I didn't get some references in Bugs Bunny cartoons until I was in my 30's). That's why I looked forward to seeing Dr. Doolittle 2 (I almost understand everything now). The commercials looked funny and Eddie Murphy (Saturday Night Live, Trading Places) cracks me up.

My daughter and her friend liked this movie. I was disappointed but "it's really the kids opinions that count". (Her words to me just now editing my work). I did not see the first one (my daughter did). She said he was very funny in it but she wanted to know more about the animals and enjoyed Dr. Doolittle 2 much more. I can only imagine Murphy as Dr. Doolittle in the first movie and his facial expressions as animals start talking to him. Eddie Murphy can convey humor with just a look. In this one, it's ho-hum...what do you want and the animals take it from there.

It is now known that that Dr. Doolittle can talk to animals. It opens with him scheduling patients (I couldn't tell if he was a vet or people doctor) with his nurse and dog, who is voiced by another Saturday Night alumnus, Norm MacDonald. People wait outside his home with their pets, hoping to get translations. He is in demand. From helping zoo tortoises with their sex lives by prescribing viagra to appearing with the Croc Hunter on TV (cameo by Steve Irwin). This is taking its toll on his family relations.

The plot involves a visit to his home by a goodfella raccoon (Michael Rappaport) who gets Doolittle to attend a meeting in the woods with The Beaver, a Mafi uhhh, business man who makes him an offer he can't refuse. That is, to save their forest from being cut down. They can stop it if they find an endangered species, which they do in the form of a bear. Two bears actually, they just need to get them together to breed.

The catch is that the male, Archie (Steve Zahn) is a circus bear, never having lived in the wild. Doolittles job being to get him to agree to go, which he does after showing him pictures of the female bear. They didn't do a thing for me. Either did her voice (Lisa Kudrow). Now, I hear that lady monkey in Planet of the Apes is pretty hot. Hubba hubba..ummm Where was I??? Oh yeah.. The hardest part is teaching him to survive in the woods in the short time allotted by the court.

The computer generated facial expressions and mouth movements are great, making you almost believe these real animals are talking. The animals also get all the funny lines, which unfortunately, I had already seen on the trailer. After returning home from this movie, the lines that my daughter repeated to my wife as she told her about it were the same ones shown on TV..."Bigger than Pooh?"..They're gonna be saying Winnie the Who?".

Eddie Murphy pretty much plays the straight man to the animals. Explaining hybernation to Archie, the bear asks how he'll go to the bathroom. Doolittle says he'll have to eat dirt and things to...well, block it off. Archie then says "butt plug" a bunch of times, much to the delight of the kids (as well as a few of us adults). Besides the butt plug thing there's a bear on a toilet scene as well as sexual innuendos that may make you cringe if you are with your child. Nothing too bad though.

Doolittles wife (Kristen Wilson) and two daughers are back (my daughter says they were in the first one). Then oldest (Raven Symone) has a boyfriend which gives Murphy some good protective Dad moments. I took notes.

Dr. Doolittle 2 as I said, is a kids movie. If not for my daughter (and matinees), I would have regretted paying (I can't believe the price of popcorn these days) to see it. It was cute and my daughter and her friend enjoyed it. But, it didn't rivet them to their seats. Towards the ending, while the animals were convincing the logger and his lawyer to back off, the girls had to go to the ladies room and wouldn't wait. As we left, a mother was also escorting her child. After they finished and emerged, I escorted them back the the theater, just in time for the final credits.

They were not upset at missing the end and said "That's OK...we'll see it on the video.....Video??...I gotta buy the video??...Dr. Do Who??"....

My recommendation: Dr. Doolittle 2 was worth seeing only because of the children and will be a good one to rent or buy on video for them. Otherwise wait for it to be shown on TV.

Summary: Better than Dr. Dolittle
Review: Hadn't seen Dr. Dolittle but I like Dr. Dolittle 2 better. "Bigger than Pooh," "they'll be saying Winnie the who." What a cool movie they made. Much better than Dr. Dolittle. You should get the DVD. I am getting it for Christmas. Next time it should be Rated G.
