Summary: Literally one of the best movies I have ever seen!!
Review: I was looking forward to seeing this movie as it looked like it would be funny from the commercials I had seen. I was NOT prepared for just HOW GREAT this movie was. The story was great, the acting great and it WAS SO ... FUNNY I literally had fountains of tears running down my face. I even broke out in laughing snorts as did others. It was SO good. I have to see it again and I cannot wait until you can buy it because I just HAVE to have it. It is about a middle class Greek family living in Chicago and focuses on one of their daughters and how she was always ashamed of her Greek heritage because she felt she didn't "fit in" and her family was SO proud of it. She also had problems with insecurities. Then she meets this man who isn't Greek and they decide to get married and EVERY step of the way was so funny I just didn't want it to end. This should get nominated for some kind of award. By the way, there was no profanity or nudity...Hmmm, so you CAN make a good movie without that, huh? A must see!!

Summary: 7 "thumbs up"!
Review: I saw this movie with my sister, her husband (a non-Greek [xenos]) and their four sons (ages 7-14). Growing up in a Greek family, we could relate to "Toula's" hysterical family - 27 first cousins and all. The movie was so realistic that we laughed from beginning to end, as much at ourselves as we did at the Portokalos family.

A thoroughly enjoyable film for all ages, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was a caricature of all that is Greek - the good, the bad and the ugly (the bridesmaids' dresses were truly hideous!).

A great cast (especially the lead characters), a poignant screenplay that was truly a laugh a minute, and great direction make this a movie well worth the price of admission. If you're Greek, if you've ever dated a Greek, or you've ever known a Greek family, you'll find this movie funny, warm, sensitive and most of all so very true!

Summary: OPA !!!
Review: What a delightful movie. I laughed, cried and felt magic in the air. It was a little obvious that the actors were over-compensating with their "phony" English, but it was so hilarious that you overlooked it.

Inspiring, refreshing, light, romantic and funny, it is a feel-good movie that left few details to chance. The background props were meticulously selected. It deserves a wider showing. Can't wait for the DVD release.

It already is on my 'to buy' list. Bravo.

Summary: Delightful Greek Comedy
Review: I found this to be a refreshing and delightful movie. The author does a great job taking us into the world of the Greek-Americans; the "clannishness" of the Greek culture, their close family ties and the fierce Greek pride. The entire cast was perfect.

Wonderful movie! Give yourself a treat and see this one.

Summary: Do yourself a favor...
Review: If you are looking for a movie that is funny and and sweet, then this is the one. I enjoyed the fact that there was no sex or violence, just hilarious and touching moments. I'm not Greek, and I'm not even married, but I could relate to this movie on so many levels. Hollywood should make more films like this!

Summary: Laughed the entire time...
Review: I saw this movie during the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, in the summer of 2001. My friends and I laughed the entire time. It is truly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Nia Vardalos and the rest of the actors are very funny and play their characters very well. This is a movie definitely worth seeing.

Summary: Hilarious and sweet
Review: I saw this movie with my best friend and it was awesome.

I love how Ian goes to great lengths to be accepted by Toula's family. He's someone any woman would love to have. When Toula was "frump girl" he saw past that and just saw her as she is.

Although her family can be a huge pain in the ass, they only want what's best for her. In a way, they remind me of my family.

Everyone should see this movie. It'll make you laugh and it has really sweet moments.

Summary: There's "reality film" and then there's "real"
Review: The movie is exceptional. The success of the movie did not extrapolate out for a tv series or other attempts to exploit the superlativeness of the movie. The movie is poisitively wonderful - every cadence, every dialogue is very interesting and divinely human. The temptation to succomb to "Hollywoodisms" refreshingly never seems to have been an issue. They didn't need "fomulas" for this movie. There is nothing here but creativity and raw talent manifested with exceptional plots and dialogue. If you haven't seen it yet - do - it's a wonderful, universally appealing movie.

Summary: Heart-warming blockbuster
Review: Toula (Nia Vardalos), a thirtysomething Greek American spinster with a very involved extended family, falls in love with Ian (John Corbett), a handsome WASPy high school teacher. This straightforward film tells the story of their courtship and the clash of cultures that ensues when her horrified parents learn that she does not intend to settle down with a nice Greek boy. To its credit, Vardalos's screenplay doesn't go in for any contrived "boy-meets-girl-boy-loses-girl" nonsense. Toula and Ian are clearly in love and I never doubted that they would get married. The central tension of the film is how-not whether-her family will come to terms with it. This film boasts a terrific cast of character actors who get a chance to shine in major roles, particularly Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan as Toula's parents.
