Rating: Summary: LAUGHED SO HARD! Review: THIS WAS THE BEST COMEDY I'VE SEEN IN YEARS! "LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY"!!!!! I'M HEADED BACK TO THE THEATRE TO SEE IT AGAIN TOMORROW........CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS ONE.....IT WAS GREAT!
Rating: Summary: Very Funny Review: I liked this movie a lot, and I felt sympathetic to all the characters, which is rare for me. This film was about a woman, Toula, who grew up in a very Greek family. Toula's father is always pressuring her to get married to a Greek and he tells her that she looks old all the time. Later on, Toula gets a make-over and a good job, which lands her a great boyfriend, Ian. However, Ian is not Greek, which causes many problems for Toula at home. I found this movie to be hilarious, and it was so funny how the father always sprayed windex on things, thinking it could cure anything. You should go see it if you haven't already.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: There was one thing surprising about this movie: How utterly predictible and formulaic it turned out to be.
Rating: Summary: Big Fat laughs all the way through Review: Having lived among Greeks for years, both in Greece and here in the U.S., I can say that this movie really hits the target in portraying life among a close extended Greek (or indeed, any ethnic) family. Even though the central character is Toula, the young woman getting married, her father, Windex bottle in hand, literally steals the show. (I can't help but wonder how much the company who makes Windex paid for this product placement)As irrational and dogmatic as he is, it's clear that he only wants what's best for his children and for them to be happy (and he never lets them forget that, either) Admittedly, I loved this movie because it could have been a replay of my own marriage, except I was the only child from an uptight WASPy family and my husband was the Greek with all the boistrous relatives who weren't sure whether they approved of him marrying a xeni [foreigner]. Even if this was not the case, I would still say it is a great movie, full of lovable characters, well paced action and priceless moments. My personal favorites were when the young man's strait-laced parents first visited the Portokalos home and had just a tad too much ouzo and later, when Toula's brother decided to teach Ian some essential Greek phrases. Gus Portokalos was on to something when he said that in the world there are Greeks and those who wish they were Greek. After seeing this movie, you will be either one or the other.
Rating: Summary: What a suprise! Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a great suprise. I laughed more than at any other movie in my recent memory, AND I learned some things. Greek Wedding is about a 30 year old Greek woman who still lives with her parents and is bored with her life. She's tired of being different than most people, and sick of working at her family's restaurant. Then she meets a man who is non-Greek and falls in love, which drives her pro-Greek father insane. This is the most original and a hilarious movie I have seen in 2002, and if you see it, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: I laughed outloud histerically! Review: This movie was so true to my Greek upbringing it's scary. I laughed out loud, yelled "oh No!" when the guys were teaching the "xenos" the wrong words to say and kept nudging my son telling him a lot of what he was seeing, his dad had gone through. Michael Constantine was my father right down to the v-neck t shirt with the hair showing over. The "root of all words" was something my mother preached constantly (although knowing Greek did make science and vocabulary tests easier!).The acting was terrific; Nia Vardalos, Michael Constantine, Lanie Kazan, Louis Mandalor; what a terrific job! What's fun is they showed the real thing, not what people think the real Greek life is like. The people were Greek, the accents were perfect, the characters were perfect. I left with tears dripping down my face and I heard several others comment that this is the "sleeper" of the year for comedy. Yassas Oli! I just hope it comes out on video so I can add it to my collection.

Rating: Summary: About this movie Review: Being Greek I can totally understand where this movie is coming from. It's hilarious and for a greek not just a story it's true! I recommend you to see this movie before any other. Even if you're not greek you'll have a fun time and laugh. I've already seen a few new movies, and so far My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the best.
Rating: Summary: outstanding love & life story.....!!! Review: I've finally seen a wonderful story that even I could relate to. It brings to the screen, a girl/woman's journey in finding the inner courage to learn about her wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, self, who can see, with honesty that she can be wonderful, beautiful, & intelligent to the "right man", who WILL love her for who she is, not what she looks like. The love of her family, who remained "teachable" and loving to all of the life, that she wanted them to participate in with her. I laughed, cried, sighed, and loved each & every part of this movie. Definitely a classic!!! I'll tell everyone that I see, to go & see this movie! It will be my pleasure to do that too !!! Deborah Wiseman
Rating: Summary: guaranteed to make your skin crawl Review: amazing that sludge like this ever got released...we've seen it all before...and it was less offensive and more amusing when they were doing this tired thing 40 years ago or more...a model of bad filmmaking on all levels.
