Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I thought that the previews looked cute. Little did I know how much fun this movie would be!

The basic concept is very familiar - older, frumpy daughter seeks freedom from overbearing father & falls for the wrong guy who turns out to be wonderful. However, Wedding brings a freshness to the story. The roles are perfectly cast and the story itself finds new life in the ethnic twist.

Wedding reminds me a lot of While You Were Sleeping. It's a sweet, enjoyable film which will leave you feeling good. Given what's going on in the world these days, this is hardly a bad thing!

Summary: My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Review: AWESOME! Extremely funny. This was just the right mix of humor. I saw it around my 4th wedding anniversary and it brought back fond memories of my own wedding planning and just how easy it all really was compared to this poor couple. It was the perfect Friday night flick and was very entertaining. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can see it again.

Summary: One of the Funniest Movies You will ever See!
Review: I can't believe that this movie didn't get the attention that it deserved. It has to be one of the most hilarious movies that I have ever seen. After watching it, I was left wondering why it didn't get the publicity necessary to make it a smash at the box office. You will laugh your way through this entire movie. When my husband and I saw it at the theater, there were times we missed a few lines of the film because we couldn't hear it - because everyone in the audience was laughing and clapping so loudly. It has been ages since I went to a movie where people actually clapped at the end. I will definitely purchase this one as soon as it is available. I think this movie would also make an excellent gift choice for any friends/family members. It has a very general comedy appeal that has something for everyone. I am a person who HATES slapstick (think Jim Carrey, Leslie Nielson) type comedy, and this movie contained NONE. It was an all-around very enjoyable movie - I think even kids as young as 9 or 10 would enjoy this film, though they may not "get" some of the more subtle humor. Buy this movie when it's available - you won't regret it!!

Summary: we need more films like this
Review: This movie has been out for awhile now,yet the theater I saw it in today was packed. And I have a feeling these were people who had seen this film more than once already. The reason for this? This film is simply incredible.I won't comment too much on what it's about since there are plenty of reviews here that have already done so,but I will say that maybe the powers that be will see that in todays uncertain world we'd much rather see "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" than say, "The sum of all fears"...for obvious reasons...we want to FEEL GOOD! There also needs to be more movies where the traditionally gorgeous guy falls in love with the Non-traditionally beautiful woman (read: full figured and very ethnic) Miss Vardalos was adorable...who wouldn't fall for her? The entire cast was wonderful, especially Lainie Kazan whose role was very similiar to the one she played in "My favorite year"...The overbearing yet lovable mother who'd just love to give you a bear hug.Go ahead....cheer yourself up!

Summary: What a wonder movie!!! A great film about family!
Review: I can't remember when I've laughed so hard at a movie. (Before you get the idea that I'm the type of person who likes sophomoric humor, let me say that I have long since graduated from fart jokes.) These laughs come from situations that -- if we haven't experienced them ourselves -- we wish had been a part of our lives. We come to like every one of the characters because they have heart and care for one another, even the strange granny from Greece. Gee, I wish I had a family like Tula's. Oh, yeah. Can't say that I didn't get a lump in my throat or a tear in my eye either. AND, I unashamedly led the applause at the end of the film. Go see it and take everyone you love.

Summary: Nostalgic
Review: This is just one "feel good" movie. Went to theater with friends not knowing ANYTHING about this movie. What with a name like this, didn't really give it much of a chance to be any good at all. Figured I was just out with my friends to see what only one of them wanted to see. I was very pleasantly surprised by what a super movie this was!! Brought back old memories when I lived in Chicago and had Greek and Italian friends. Wonderful ethnic groups to be associated with. When it comes out on DVD will be one of the 1st ones to own it!

Summary: Very Enjoyable Escapism
Review: What a pleasent escape of a movie. Its been a while since something was so uplifting as this movie. I saw people laughing hysterically, crying, and clapping. We need more movies like these in the trying times. Somewhat like Muriels Wedding but not quite. Interesting cast. Well worth the 10 bucks, and u know what, u might actually go see it again. I think i will

Summary: Greek as they come
Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) dir.

Saw it last night IN A THEATER, in Jacksonville. Theater was packed, an indication of the popularity of this film. It has been around 13 weeks, I'm told, and it reached our unreachable neighborhood.

It was fun and funny, though the jokes were rather standard Greek clichés, or pre-conceptions of Greek-American families; daddy too conservative to allow daughter (now pushing thirty) to date any other male than a Greek; Greek brothers and sisters, a "Greek" mother (played by Elaine Kazan who is black), Greek aunts, dozens of cousins, an little bundle of a grandmother, daffy and senile who still thinks the Turks are after her, and other such absolutely ridiculous situations. Of Course Toula, the daughter, inevitably meets an American young man she likes, breaks loose from the tightness of the family restaurant, where she is a waitress, open a travel bureau ("Olympus"), and eventually she becomes liberated.

The two families--the American and the Greek--are studies in contrast, and both caricatures. It works at a certain level, the jokes keep tumbling from the mouths of innocents, the music is good, there is some dancing (inevitable in all things Greeks), and even a Zorba's diner (also inevitable) and testament to the lingering influence of the movie Zorba the Greek, which does not mean that the movie is anywhere as serious as that; in fact, it is a romantic comedy that, despite all the misunderstandings and little innocent brawls, ties nicely together, for there is nothing unpleasant, no ugly scenes anywhere, just good-hearted fun.
Fresh, and innovative because of that quality, so lacking in today's blockbuster nothings that populate the screens these days. Go see it.

Summary: over-acting/loaded Greek culture with a kiss of realtiy: Fun
Review: Already struggling with her heritage and cultural identity, Toula's man choise will lead the comedy. It's not all cake and roses for a Greek woman who falls hopelessly in love with a non-Greek man. In her attempts to help her family come to terms with the situation, she learns about her culture and heritage. So funny. A bit over-reacting about the Greeks and their values but it is a nice comedy based on a real background. Exceptional satira and good script. Everyone felt in a love with a Greek and everyone have/had a Greek friend... so u know the story!

Must C. Masterpiece!
