Rating: Summary: See it again! Review: Let me tell you, this movie is worth seeing again. In fact, I think I enjoyed it even more the second time. Now I'm waiting for the DVD to come out!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie - Makes You Feel Good Review: This is a great movie - although maybe thought of as a "chick flick". I I smiled, laughed and cried through the whole thing. Can't wait for the DVD - definitely on my Christmas list!
Rating: Summary: He don't eat no MEAT!!?? Review: After you read this review - GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! No, don't wait for it to come out on tape/dvd! What a warm, funny, charming film. You will want to leave the theatre dancing. It will make you laugh until your sides hurt, and there are scenes that will make you get a lump in your throat. I saw it with a Greek friend, and he was laughing so hard he was crying and had to keep wiping his eyes. Even if you are not Greek, you will love this movie. Toula is a real woman - not a plastic, shallow Hollywood type. Her family is loud, nosey and very lovable. Michael Constantine should get an Oscar nomination for his role as Toula's father. To see Ian's very reserved parents begin to come out of their shells is priceless. The Baptism scene is great, as is Toula's mom's "wedding night" lecture. My 77 year old mom and my 14 year old nephew both saw this film and loved it. How many movies can make THAT claim?
Rating: Summary: My Big, Fat Greek Wedding = BIG Laughs! Review: I cannot remember seeing a movie where I laughed from beginning to end! In our post 9/11 world, this is exactly the kind of movie that was needed. What a treat! Do yourself a favor and get out there to see this movie - you will NOT be disappointed! Nia Vardelos has given us an instant classic with this movie! THANK YOU NIA!
Rating: Summary: I love Greeks! Review: The movie is about a thirty year old Greek girl who still is not married and her family looks at her like a failure. Then she gets a makeover and meets a nice non-Greek guy(which her parents are very unhappy about).I absolutley loved the Greek family, with the adorable little Greek granny(who thinks the Turks are after her). However both Ian's family(not very worldly and on the stiff side) and Toula's family( warm, loud and always out for a party) are poked fun at.I was surprised at how Nia(instead of writing a script saying my culture is better than yours)just went for the comedy and left all groups feeling equal.Which is probably one of the reasons this movie is a success.I can't wait for the dvd.
Rating: Summary: You don't have to be Greek to love this movie!!! Review: What a great movie!!!! I think everyone can relate to this film. There isn't one person in the world that doesn't have an over bearing mothering or domineering father and nosy family members. Grab a friend and see this movie. Don't wait for the video or you'll be sorry.
Rating: Summary: An ethnic comedy without ethnic jokes - YES! Review: I identified with Toula because, while not Greek, I am also first-generation and have just as many cousins as she does (27!) who live right by me and so are excitedly involved whenever anyone is getting married --- particularly a female relative in her late twenties whom everyone is sure was never going to get married!!!Toula meets Ian, a nice non-Greek boy, once in the very start of the movie, and then after she transforms her life with a makeover and new career. Once she gets the ball rolling in these other arenas, she gains confidence and starts an unsanctioned romance. All of her cousins, aunts, and siblings set about convincing Toula's Old World father, who loves Greece and all things Greek and is personally offended that Toula has not chosen a Greek fiancee, to accept Ian and his world. There is plenty of insights into the Greek culture and how Toula can love such a large warm family even while she is desperately trying to escape them. Embracing and accepting her past without letting it dictate her life is great -- especially when the grandmother, who has been crotchety and hilarious for most of the movie, touchingly brings her wedding wreath and photos to share with Toula on her special day. You will laugh and cry, and thankfully not at a culture's expense.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Romantic Comedy Review: The epitome of a sweet romantic comedy that actually makes you laugh out loud. You don't have to be Greek to enjoy this flick. While the premise (ugly duckling becomes beautiful swam & gets Prince Charming)is quite contrived it is also very enjoyable for those of us that are looking for something other than violence and sex in the cinema. The main character, Tula, is played by Nia Vardalos, upon whose one-woman show the film is based upon. WARNING: If you are planning a wedding or have been involved in the planning of a wedding you will laugh till you cry.
Rating: Summary: funny and heartwarming Review: We went to see this movie because it was starting at the time we got to the theater. It was a delightful surprise. Hilarious in places and touching throughout. I laughed out loud any number of times, and when the movie was over the crowd applauded. The acting was top-notch and the whole movie had a warm, lively feeling. It was about all the problems one encounters in becoming the individual one wants to be. Anyone who has ever gotten married should see this movie.
