Rating: Summary: greek wedding plus 10 Review: This was a marvelous movie and I look forward to the video release. I laughed from opening credits to the final note. Truly a movie to depict 1st and 2nd generation Americans and their relationship to their family - I know from first hand experience! It captures a culture and essence of the culturial diversity. Being from an eastern European family (Yugoslav), it captured our hearts and soul- you don't have to be Greek to identify with it!
Rating: Summary: The Windex Blues Review: My father immigrated to the usa from Greece in 1951.The fact that windex is blue is the key point. My father told us that rubbing alcohol in Greece was blue and when the Greeks immigrated here they bought windex thinking it was rubbing alcohol. One day my father was visiting some fellow Greeks and they were perplexed because the windex would not ignite for treating different ailments. My father very candidly told them that it was not rubbing alcohol but solution to clean windows....what a laugh!
Rating: Summary: A Big Fat Success Review: I cannot believe how much this movie made me laugh. The humor was timed incredibly well, and kept me laughing throughout the hour and a half that I was watching it. One of my favorite lines from the movie (I can't give away all the funny ones, you will have to watch it!)Aunt Voula: He don't eat meat? That's ok, I make lamb! Also, besides the intense humor, the actors did a phenomal job, especially Nia Vardalos. The story was well put together, and actually had a plot to it, unlike some movies that have recently came out. Overall, this is enjoyable to watch the first, second and third time you watch it. Each time you watch it you are likely to pick up something humorous you didn't notice the 1st time you saw it. Probably one of the best movies of 2002.
Rating: Summary: Best Romantic Comedy Ever! Review: Anybody who's ever read my review history knows that I loath romantic comedies. Like many other male reviewers here, I had to be dragged to this one. But I'm glad I was. This movie is very funny but it's also very poignant and most immigrant families will be able to relate to it. Nina Vardalos is very sweet and dare I say, quite sexy. She did a good job of making herself look very frumpy at the beginning of this movie but like a caterpillar, she has blossomed into a luscious brown eyed treat. Needless to say, I pre-ordered the DVD.
Rating: Summary: A must have "chick-flick" movie for your collection! Review: Grab your favorite flavored tea, some snacks, and the tissues because this movie will have you laughing and crying! Watch as the main character changes from an ugly duckling to a beautiful young, greek woman who falls in love with a man from a different ethnic background. Which her father does not approve of. The supporting cast gets in on the laughs as they try not to steel the show from Nia and John C. If you didn't get to see this movie in the theater, you really need to purchase it now and see for yourself why it was the sleeper hit of 2002!
Rating: Summary: Hillarious Review: Ok. I know that the characters in my big Greek wedding are perhaps an exaggeration of an ethnic segment of the American population, but you can't help but fall in love with them. Mia is incredible and she deserves all of the acclaim that she has recently received. There were so many scenes in this movie that deserve rip-roaring laughter, that I won't even begin to list them all. However, for me, one of the funniest scenes in the movie was simply every time the camera would pan the neighborhood. The viewer would see typical suburbia with the nicely groomed (but not overstated) yards and simple brick homes. As the camera moved down the street, Mia's parents house would come into view and you couldn't help but laugh. It was as if you were stepping back into Athens, complete with Greek flag on the front yard. The best part of this movie is that it's one of those rare "family movies" that you can watch with anyone. It's refreshingly wholesome. I loved this movie for a variety of reasons. Perhaps, the biggest reason was simply that no one saw it as having potential and it blew them all away. You can't ask for better than that!
Rating: Summary: An Enchanting Cinderella type comedy Review: You find don't many PG, funny, family comedies anymore, but I was thouroughly pleased with this movie! It was funny, witty and enchanting. If you liked The Princess Diaries, Maid in Manhattan, or Ever After, you'll love this movie!
Rating: Summary: I Had to be Dragged to See It Review: After lunching near the theater where Greek Wedding was playing, my husband insisted we were going to see it. I'd never heard of it and thought it sounded dumb and boring. Finally, I told him that if I didn't like it he owed me big time, to which he agreed but stated if I did like it, I had to admit it. Within 2 minutes of the start of the movie I was laughing so hard my cheeks hurt! This is the absolute funniest movie I've ever seen (twice) and everyone we've recommended it to has loved it! You cannot miss this flick & I can't wait to purchase the video!!
Rating: Summary: Don't wait for the DVD to come out! Go see this movie now! Review: I'm not a big movie fan. But after hearing so much good stuff about this movie (including a nod from Sandy Rios, President of Concerned Women for America!), I decided to see it with my husband and older kids. This movie is hilarious - if you see this in the theater, you will be joining in the laughter of the rest of the audience. It's great to have a clean movie and humor that's not disgusting. Even though Toula's large family (especially her father) is very closed-minded when it comes to her marrying someone outside their nationality, Toula still loves and respects her family, and wants to have a regular wedding instead of eloping. Her fiance is such a good sport and really goes along with a lot of stuff because he loves her so much. He even gets baptized Greek Orthodox! This is a movie you can see with your family without being embarrassed. There is one questionable scene, but overall, this movie is excellent and family-friendly. The values of hard work, aspiring to improve oneself, and the power of love are well-depicted. This movie has done so well in the theaters - it's great to see that a PG movie can last so long! We need more movies like this one! I wonder if Windex paid the movie people to use their product so many times in this movie?
Rating: Summary: I've seen it three times and can't wait to watch it more! Review: I have seen this movie three times in the theatre, and I am not one to go and see movies over and over. It is SO nice to have Hollywood believe in little movies like this...or if they didn't believe in it, then wow...this immense following should show them that if they make clean movies more often, it's amazing to see how well they do! I can't wait for this to come out on DVD, it's definitly on my must-have list.
