Summary: MIRACLE OF MIRACLES!
Review: My lady friend has NO sense of humor, and she laughed constantly
along with me and the rest of the theatre. A great movie, and soon to be in my DVD collection!

Summary: Different strokes for different folks
Review: I went to this movie wanting to love it. I left disappointed and feeling like I needed a Valium to relax me after enduring two hours (or however long it was)of that loud, rambunctious family. Like I said, I wanted to love this movie, but I didn't. I didn't like it. It does have some funny lines and moments, but overall, it got on my nerves big time.

I also could never quite believe that gorgeous John Corbet would fall for that girl. He is way out of her league.

I'm glad that millions of people enjoyed this movie. I'm sorry, but I did not.

Summary: Best I have seen lately
Review: I came from Russia, for me this movie was homecoming, everything was so familiar, you could change greek to russian, and it will be truthful. Characters, customs, food, expressions, and even these famous words: ' I came to this country with 8 dollars", I still say it myself.
Very down to earth, real, funny, and see, also very true about bad sides of American life: people (at least in Northeast) are very reserved, almost inhospitable, aggresive, not family oriented, too busy, e.t.c and generally lonely. Excellent, must see movie. I saw it twice, and will buy DVD.

Summary: Laughter is the Best Medicine
Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was so funny that my side hurt every time I finished watching it. This is the only movie in 2002 that I saw more than once, and I saw it 5 TIMES!!! If you ever feel "down in the dumps", just watch this movie and you'll see it's better than Zoloft or Prozac. Truly a Gem!

Summary: Old tIme fun
Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding harkens back to the classic romantic comdeies of the 30s,40s,50s and early 60s. These films carried the day with a great story line that a broad spectrum of the population could relate to. It proves that you don't need the Big Buck Boys to make a Big Buck Film! This movie deserves to carry the Academy Awards for all categories!Give us more of the same!

Summary: A Surprise Hit - Well Worth Watching!
Review: Screenplay writer doubling as actress, Nia Vardalos plays herself - the frumpy daughter in a paternalistic Greek family in Chicago. She's dying to get out from the family business, a Greek restaurant, so that she can take some classes at the local college.

Enter Ian, a handsome suitor that is perfect in every way but one. He's not Greek.

Hilarity ensues as Ian introduces Nia to his family and she introduces Ian to her family. The cultural and familial differences make for many laughs.

The film nails the family relations perfectly - aunts that like to talk about their medical conditions, overprotective brothers, a misguided but loving father that likes to use Windex, a mother obsessed with cooking, the nosy beauty-queen cousin....

Most anyone will be able to identify with this film. It makes no difference whether one comes from a Greek background or not.

The film is filled with genuine laughs and subtle humor (e.g. as Ian tries to attract Nia's attention outside the storefront window he runs into an old woman who then takes it out on him with her purse). I found myself laughing throughout.

The characters are well played. Nia plays the role she was born to play - herself, and the film is thankfully absent of any high-powered Hollywood names. With no big names to distract the viewer, it makes the film work well.

Look for either a sequel or a sitcom to be spawned from this surprise blockbuster. Three cheers for independent films!

Summary: My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Review: At age 65 I believe most movies follow a story line that starts out with the hero and heroine barely meeting, not connecting (suspenseful), irritating each other and at whatever pace proceeds to the climax wherein they come together for a successful, happy conclusion. This movie starts, proceeds and flows in a happy, positive way. There is no he/she can't decide, is disenchanted by what they find, etc., instead it proceeds happily and logically to a wonderfully wholesome conclusion with all being involved and (ultimately) cheering the couple on. The father's reticence for a non-Greek is so short lived and played down (though useful for plot) that it hardly does more than portray the father as a lovable, caring overlord. This movie should be and have a "cult" following. Rocky Horror picture show was OK for it's genre, but this movie is within the annals of the likes of "It's a Wonderful Life." Even "It's a Wonderful Life" had to go through the period of sadly saying what life would have been like without George. You see none of this type of regressive retrospect in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." It's JOY from beginning to end. Hooray for Nia Verdales, Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. I'm your lifelong fan forever. Plaudits and pandering aside this is good for the whole family. The industry should take notice of what constitutes wholesome, fun entertainment. Three cheers, FIVE stars AND THANK YOU! I saw this movie seven (7) times. While it ran every time I needed to feel good I went back. AND I told everybody how I thought it should be a "cult" movie.
