Rating: Summary: Wonderful Comedy Review: I usually don't care for comedy. A lot of it seems too stupid and mindless. But I really love this movie. It is just so funny, but without being disgustingly stupid. It's one of those movies you can just go around quoting. The characters are unique and, although exaggerated, still believable, and the plot is cute and funny. This is one of those movies I think everybody ought to see at least once in their life.
Rating: Summary: Cultural Overreach Review: This movie is so fun and in many ways a real look at life from a Greek perspective. Funny Greek American interplay is throughout the movie. Yet anyone who is a second generation American will see the concern on the faces and in the actions of the Greek family for their daughter. The movie is dark and drab at first, a little boring in fact, yet that sets the pace for the movie because you will see the before and after on our star. As with many movies, the WASP family is portrayed as boring, rigid and cold. Too bad that the son does not speak up on the behalf of his family. Hey, they are descended from the American farmer, probably. They tamed this land. However, from the Greek grandma (Ya Ya) to the insanity within the house among the children, it gives a good glimpse of Greek family life. This is a fun, light hearted movie that has a few tugs at your heart in places. If you want a good laugh, a good time and a couple of tears, this is a movie for you. For the family too.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but not as great as people are saying Review: This movie was "ok" but not great. Michael Constantine steals the movie about a nerdy girl who works in a travel agency. One day she is attracted to a man that looks in. The man happened to be someone she waited on in her father's Greek restaurant. She decides to pretty herself up and then starts to date the man. There is a clash of culture as his family is definately not Greek. The Greek family is shown to be very large and fun going while the young man's family is very stiff and proper. The highlight of the movie is the constant wanderings of the girl's grandmother and her father's constant insistance that every word in the English language comes from a Greek root. I liked it but I was not overwhelmed by it like some people. Still it is better than a lot of the new movies out there.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but kind of disappointing Review: Maybe it's because I heard so many good comments on it that my expectations were too high, but I found this movie kind of disappointing. It doesn't have a strong plot and keeps you kind of bored. It is a bit funny though and I would recommend it if you have nothing better to do. I don't think it's worth the buy though.
Rating: Summary: My Big Fat Greek Wedding Review: This movie was a total disappointment. An idea that could have been charming has been turned into something gross. The grooming details of the bridal party were more than most viewers would care to see in a romantic comedy. Also, the male and female leads aren't believable. He's entirely too attractive for her, even after the makeover. If I were a Greek-American, I would want to sue the producer. This movie really puts it to them. This could have been charming. It was raunchy.
Rating: Summary: Transparent Sitcom Review: This is the highest-grossing romantic comedy ever. And it's a bellwether as to why the movie-viewing audience shouldn't be trusted with sharp objects. I stopped watching television a couple of years ago out of disgust with how transparent TV sitcoms are. Everything proceeds in a linear manner, utterly predictable; anyone watching closely will know what the closing punch line will be within the first five minutes. And this movie is nothing but an extended situation comedy. It has good visuals, admittedly, and a broader palette than low budgets permit sitcoms, but its narrative structure and character development could have been done by the creative team at UPN. And I never really did care about the characters or what happened to them; I never overcame the notion that they were self-centered no-accounts. Don't waste your time with this claptrap. If you feel you absolutely must watch something of this breed, it will come to your house for free if you just turn on network television.
Rating: Summary: Such a great movie.... Review: If you don't own a copy of this movie, treat yourself to a copy. It's a great one to have in your library for occasions when you want to pull out a feel-good movie to cheer yourself up. It's a movie you can watch with the man in your life, your girlfriends, even your parents. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
Rating: Summary: The Best Romantic Comedy Ever Review: I love this movie it is the perfect date movie because even guys will laugh during it. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the story of a woman who begins dating a man of whom her family does not approve of because he is not greek. So in order to get married they must make all sorts of changes in their lives and get her father's approvel and during the changes all sorts of accidents happened. This movie is all right for all ages as long as kissing and romance is not to "icky" of a concept for them it is full of comedy and all sorts of family friendly humor. I hope that this review has helped you in making a decision about this movie.
Rating: Summary: I KNOW These People! Review: Make them speak Italian, eat Italian food and own an Italian restaurant, and drink red wine instead of ouzo and you've got my family. My husband, whose heritage is similar to Ian's, nearly fell out of his chair laughing when Ian told Toula's mother he'd already eaten and she says she'll fix him something anyway! If that's not an Italian momma, I don't know what is.
Rating: Summary: Goo, not great Review: Despite the hype surrounding this film - much of it deserved, this is really just another fairy-tale aimed for the heartstrings; the main difference between this work and many others like it is the fact that this film is not afraid to rise abve sappy laughter, and gives us some winning moments in its place.
