Summary: Terribly overrated movie
Review: So many people told me how great this movie was, but I sat in front of the TV for an hour and a half and laughed perhaps once. It simply wasn't a funny movie, and I don't know how it ended up as successful as it was in the box office. The same (unfunny) jokes were reused multiple times in the movie, getting less funny with each repetition. Terribly bland movie, only recommended if you are a sadist.

Summary: Why Did I Buy It!?!?
Review: Everyone was saying how funny and wonderful this movie was. Even when I decided to purchase it, the lady at the checkout said "you'll love it!" --I hated it!! Ok, hate is too strong. I suggest you rent it. Don't go to the theater--and don't buy it till AFTER you've rented it, or you're wasting your money! Yes, it was 'cute', I guess, if you can get past the fact that it was BORING!!!! This is a SIMPLE movie. Nothing too entertaining here.

Summary: Greek Fat Hilarious!
Review: Whether you are Greek or not, I think this movie hits us all in the "white dress." Each ethnicity has it's little traditions and quirks that we, the next generation throw our hands up in embarrassment at!

This movie is no exception. Growing up Greek, I found this movie very funny and very accurate in portraying the Greek customs.

Even the non-Greek cast was believable and kudos on the authenticity of the music!

Summary: My Big Fat Disappointment
Review: I really wanted to climb on the bandwagon with the rest of America and rave over this movie, I did. I rented it to watch at home and tried to keep an open mind. I usually prefer satire and dark humor to clean 'n wholesome family fun but there have been exceptions.

The first 15 minutes were passable. There was Toula: a hopeless case with thick glasses and a dour attitude that no one could penetrate. She seemed destined to live the rest of her life with her somewhat controlling but well-meaning family, helping out at her father's restaurant. Until . . . *fanfare!!* . . . in walks this tall, blond cookie-cutter dude with longish hair and an obvious pocketful of cash. Toula decides, based on the strength of one quasi meeting with this man (i.e. pouring him a glass of water) to get her life into shape. For her, this means getting contacts, a snappy new hairstyle and enrolling in college classes. It was around this point that I stopped believing anything on the screen. Toula finally connects with the Himbo and gets to know him through a series of contrived "rendezvous." There was very little character development on the part of the Himbo to the point that he seemed almost one-dimensional, like a remote control puppet being manipulated by the director from offstage. And I have to say it: if all it takes to land a rich dude after 30-some years of loneliness and depression is a haircut and a job at a travel agency, well sign me up for one of both.

I found the behavior of the family to be stereotypical and overacted. Every extended family member should have been wearing a t-shirt imprinted with, "I Am Olive-Skinned, Loud and Obnoxious, and Therefore, Greek!" Utterly ridiculous.

I truly can't figure out why ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE is so enamored with this movie. It was embarrassing and boring to watch. A big fat waste of money, you might say...

Summary: what is wrong with me?
Review: I loved this movie, but when I was talking to my friends they all said that they didn't like it and that they thought it would be funnier to people older than us, and that their parents liked it.

Summary: Just couldn't get into it...
Review: I think I was a victim of the media hype here... maybe this could have been an enjoyable film, but I simply couldn't get into it... it was not at all what I expected. I found the characters dull and a bit annoying and needy, and the stereotypes were a bit too thick for my tastes.

Summary: Could not get into this one
Review: ...Way too much hype...the movie draggggged! And I mean dragggged!!! I lost interest, and stopped watching it!!

Summary: The strong will make it through
Review: This movie is hyped up by the advertisements, but all in all, it was very slow and not well thought out. The families are very unbelievealbe. I verly made it through the whole thing.
