Summary: National Lampoons European Vacation
Review: I was very disappointed when I purchased the dvd from Amazon.com only to find that parts of the movie are cut and some
of the language has been either eliminated or dubbed.
I expect to purchase a movie in its entirety. I feel
I was cheated. I absolutely loved this movie and
I don't feel we should purchase movies that
have been edited from its original content.

Summary: Not as good
Review: This is the only Vacation dvd in widescreen. Why? It's the 2nd weakest film, and it was shot in full screen. Thats right. Thats why its the full screen with additional black bars. Tht's how it was shown theatrically. It's called matting. The video is good, but the audio, like the first one is in dull, dated, and strident mono. The fidelity is weak, too. This film is a 4 star film, and the disc is a 2-star one. It is an underrated film that is worth renting. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and God Bless America!

Summary: Different country, same Griswolds!
Review:

America's favorite screwball family heads to Europe for the second installment of the National Lampoon's Vacation series. It begins when the Griswolds win a trip on a game show. They start out in England, with my favorite scene where they get stuck in a roundabout for several hours and by the end Clark is just hysterical. In England they also run into (literally) Eric Idle for the first time in the movie. In Germany, they spend time with complete strangers, thinking they are Clark's relatives and Clark starts a brawl at a beer-fest. In France, Ellen is kidnapped and Eric Idle appears again. This movie is like a comedy/adventure, there are a couple of car chases mixed in with the many laughs.

This movie is like an exaggeration of everyone's worst family vacation. There are points where they all get annoyed with each other, but in the end they are still family and love each other.

So does this movie,, but a offal cast!!!!!!
Chevy and Beverly of chourse return, but the russ and Audrie?!?!?! whats up with theam?? Audrie is a little toleratable but Russ?!?!? I forget who he is plated by but he looks likesome all american red head, and his voice is a little country hick to, you can tell they casting agency for Warner Brothers wear on a very tight schedle for this movie becuase they just took the person who first walked into the door!!!!

Summary: Good Movie, Bad DVD
Review: This was a good movie, especially for a sequel, and would be followed by two other sequels featuring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. This time instead of going to WallyWorld they go to Europe. The funniest part is when the Camcorder is stolen and it and a naked picture of the wife appears in Italy. The DVD is horrible there is no deleted scenes, commentaries, or anything. The Widescreen is horrible. If you really like this movie buy it on DVD but don't expect much.

Summary: Worst DVD ever
Review: No added bonus material, Originally filmed in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, then modified to fit your screen, on the video version,

Well the DVD is even worse, The 1.33:1 (square-screen) version of the movie was used for this DVD, but with added black bars to make it look like it's in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio,

This film has been Modified from it's original version, & formatted to fit your TV, With added Black bars to make you think it's in it's original theatrical aspect ratio, but it's not,

The DVD is enhanced for Widescreen TV's But that doesn't matter, What matters is that most of the picture is missing, & I doubt it will ever be released in it's original aspect ratio,

The modifying table

THEATRICAL 1.85:1 (all picture intact)
VIDEO 1.33:1 (from rectangle to square, missing picture on the sides)
DVD 1.66:1 (from square to rectangle, missing picture on the sides, the top & the bottom)

Perhaps the next Video version will be modified from the DVD version, & so on, until you can only see the peoples noses,

If you think you're impressed by the listing, that this DVD is in Widescreen, Don't be, that was my mistake, The DVD "is" in Widescreen, But it's just the Full-Screen version with added black bars to make you think it's in it's original aspect ratio,

Do not buy,
To prove that it's the Full-Screen version with added black bars,
Fast forward to Ending Credits, The Mtv Logo will pop up, & where it says "MUSIC TELEVISION", Well you will know what im talking about,

Summary: Great Movie In The Funniest Series
Review: First of all the Griswolds win a trip to Europe when they are on the game show A Pig In A Poke. They go see Stonehenge, Eiffel Tower, Germany. You never know what might know what happens when they go to those places. This movie is hilarious and very comedic. I can't wait till I buy Vegas Vacation on DVD

Summary: Another good Chevy Chase movie
Review: Although European Vacation is not my favorite Vacation movie, it's definitely worth buying. The DVD has a few extras that make it worthwhile.

Summary: Mediocre movie, HORRIBLE Sound Mastering Job...
Review: Amazon's editorial review of this film isn't far off the mark. This does seem totally like it should be renamed "Vacation XVI: European Vacation", and then just wait until they make another 12 or so in the series before re-releasing this one under that title as sort of an apology for how bad it is.

This 1985 sequel to the 1983 classic "National Lampoon's Vacation" was so poorly received both critically and commercially that it's amazing how the franchise rebounded so successfully on both levels with "Christmas Vacation" four years later. There are basically two reasons this film fails - (1) the complete absence of Randy Quaid, whom the producers realized was a key to the original's success, and thus he was promptly returned for all future installments, and (2) the vapid direction and pacing of Amy Heckerling, who was behind the camera for great movies like "Clueless" and "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", but somehow drags this turkey right down to the gutter.

Any feeble attempts at comedy (and there are very few of them) are followed by long pointless scenes that destroy what little momentum the film otherwise has. I'm sure someone actually felt that the scene where the family intentionally tries to annoy eachother on the train, or the scene where they all go shopping for avant garde 80's new wave clothes, were just full of yuks, but this reviewer found none of that.

In addtion - CAVEAT EMPTOR! Whoever was in charge of prepping this movie for DVD remastered it in Dolby Digital 1.0. That's not a typo, the audio track for this movie is in pure, crisp, clear MONOPHONIC SOUND. One speaker. If you pick Auto Format Decode on your receiver, you will get sound coming from the center channel of your system, and NO OTHER. Just like watching a movie from 1975 on a TV made in about 1982. This is obviously an error, because if you pick the "audio commentary" track with Chevy Chase (always annoying in his real-life persona becaue all he does is brag about how he was came up with every idea for every joke for every movie he's ever been in), it is presented with left, right, center, and rear (single-channel) channels in all their glory. You just have to listen to Chase rambling over the top of everything.

Two stars for the movie, immediately cut in half due to the horrible job by Warner Brothers in mastering it. I hope this error gets corrected, and I hope that the company has the decency to offer exchanges to those of who bought this movie on first impulse purely to complete our "Vacation" collection and not because the movie was actually GOOD.

Summary: Not As Good As I Was Expecting...
Review: After the origional movie I would have thought this would have been much much funnier. I'm not saying that this movie doesn't have it's hilarious moments (think the German dance scene and the driving scenes) but there are several moments where you know you're expected to laugh but it's just not funny (think the game show host part and the countless show of breasts)...However there is still the zany charm of National Lampoon. However if you haven't seen any National Lampoons don't start with this one.
