Rating: Summary: Twisted and Funny, Spacey does it again Review: I actually came across this video by accident, and since I had been recently impressed by Mr. Spacey's performance in "The Usual Suspects," I decided to give this film a try. What I ended up with was major pains in my stomach from laughing so hard. This clever and twisted film pits Spacey against his horribly abused assistant, who extracts his revenge on Spacey in every way imaginable. Anyone who has ever had a boss from hell will enjoy watching the torture scenes over and over again. The best part of this film was the fact that it really didn't have a standard Hollywood "happy ending." In fact, the ending is quite sad, and shows just what people are capable of when they want to get ahead in the game. Overall, great cast, great story, and an even greater ending. Kevin Spacey is the MAN!
Rating: Summary: Hell of a boss! Review: I think we have all known a Buddy Ackerman sometime in our lives (Kevin Spacey's part). The boss from hell who gets a kick out of tormenting his assistant. Actually, I don't think it was such a tough role to act, but I agree Spacey does a fine job in playing the part. The script is sharp as a whip and the director does not loose focus, even though the story is unfolded through a series of flash backs. The film never lags, the end is a surprise, but the end is somewhat anticlimatic.
Rating: Summary: It's all Spacey Review: This is a classic example of a mediocre movie elevated by one single brilliant performance. Kevin Spacey absolutely dominates this movie. He's abrasive and a total a--hole, and he's perfect in the role. If anyone one else played Buddy Ackerman, this movie would be, at best, a two-star movie. The plot is decent and the other performances are just okay. 1995 was a great year for Spacey (he did Seven and Usual Suspects in that year, also), and this was just one of the reasons why.Out....
Rating: Summary: Another Spacey knockout Review: Whenever my husband is having a bad day at work, all he needs to hear is two words...BUDDY ACKERMAN! I am a diehard Spacey fan, but this movie put him over the top for my husband. He seldom mentions more than a couple of times if he enjoys a movie, but he couldn't stop talking about this one. If you haven't seen either this movie or "HurlyBurly", get them. Both must adds to your Kevin Spacey collection. Neither one of us will think of papercuts the same way again. Kudos to entire cast!
Rating: Summary: Great actor, horrible movie! Review: I only gave it 2 stars because Kevin Spacey is my favorite actor. Had he not been in it, i would have shut it off half way through. i don't know why this movie is classified as a comedy?? Kevin Spacey insults that guy & screams at him, and that is funny when Kevin acts like that. But the whole movie is more of a drama, about a guy who holds his boss hostage. And the end of the movie is just plain STUPID! It was a straight to video movie, i now know why. I have went to the theatre and seen AMERICAN BEAUTY, and that is now my all time favorite movie, it's Kevin Spacey back at his best! also, other GOOD Kevin movies are, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, SEVEN, THE NEGOTIATOR, and THE REF is even better than this movie! So save your money for when AMERICAN BEAUTY comes to tape.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious and well-observed black comedy Review: I tried to get my hands on this movie for a while, and eventually did last year. I was not disappointed! Kevin Spacey excels as the crass, foul-mouthed boss-from-Hell. If anyone has any doubt about Spacey's acting ability, they are completely mistaken. See this movie! It confirms him(as if we needed confirmation...), as one of, if not THE best actors around. Frank Whaley must be commended for his brilliant comic turn as Spacey's doormat. The writing is superb - the script is packed full of quotable put-downs, and all concerned with this movie should be extremely proud.
Rating: Summary: Great movie Review: This movie really took me by surprise. I friend lent it to me one night and I sat down to watch it somewhat hesitantly. Boy, was I surprised!! This was one great movie. Extremely well-written and Kevin Spacey is nothing short of spectacular in his portrayal of one of the most vile and loathsome people imaginable. I don't think there's a person alive who can't relate to Frank Whaley's character in one respect or another. Buddy Ackerman is so insanely hateful that you just want to jump into your TV screen and beat the tar out of his egotistical and arrogant behind. I was, I must admit, somewhat disappointed with the ending, but all in all, a genuine surprise of a film and one that made me glad that I was never interested in pursuing a career in show business.
Rating: Summary: Had it not been for the end... Review: I absolutely loved this film for its superb dialogue. It is psychologically involved and devilishly humorous. it was absolutely enjoyable intill the very end where everything goes prematurely flaccid in an unexpected anticlamax. Why did not the producers spend thirty more minutes on the plot to make a better ending. This film would have been superb. Because of that three stars because I tend to expect more out of capable people.
Rating: Summary: You have no brain....... Review: If you didn't appreciate the smartest movie I've seen in a long long time. Kevin Spacey is the ultimate boss from hell. His supreme confidence that he has every right to act in an egomanical and abusive way is a treat. Mean spirited, perfectly written and acted. Swimming is a movie you should add to your library. Spacey is a God. This is a black comedy of the darkest order, and I couldn't stop lauging.
Rating: Summary: Spaecy is a comical and dramatic gift Review: Kevin spacey has never been better. This is a flim in which dark comedy and drama blends so well that it is hard to call it one or the other. Kevin's ability to bring his character alive and have such personality will actually scare you into thinking that is who he is. The chemeristy between him and the other cast is perfect. YOu really feel the frustations, anger, happiness and coldness between all. This well written movie is a gem.
