Summary: Come on it was fun
Review: I can understand all of the comments about this movie being mediocre. But come on can you honestly say that when you picked the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, you were expecting say An American in Paris. I was satisifed. It was a nice way to waste an afternoon. My only complaint would be Burt Reynolds was in the majority of the movie and this explains why the movie comes across as slow. Another actor should have been chosen. What gives this movie three stars is Dolly Parton. She was adorable in it and had such charisma. The governor's number is a must also.

Summary: Another Missed Opportunity
Review: I enjoyed this film and its musical numbers.
However (as always) DVD buyers may have too many expectations of the studio when it chooses to issue one their pictures to DVD.

Universal could have restored the late Colin Higgins' film to his original cut that had unedited lyrics and extended musical numbers like the "Aggie Song" (that were filmed and in the original work prints, as well as on the soundtrack).

At least these extras could have been offered under "Bonus Material" without changing the sanctity of the existing film.
After all, the film is rated [R] and, 21 years later, could hardly be deemed offensive.

The "Making of..." feature is just over 7 minutes and offers little more than principal's interviews.
The only true benefit of this transfer is that it can be viewed in widescreen format.

Summary: The Best Little DVD One Could Wish For!
Review: I have been waiting for The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas to be released on DVD for a few years now and finally it has arrived! It sure was worth the wait! The picture transfer is fantastic. Great clear images and a remastered soundtrack. The widescreen opens the picture up and gives audiences glimpses of things that were never able to be seen on the video. But the most exciting part of the DVD are the great bonus features: a short behind the scenes documentry (featuring interviews with Parton, Reynolds, Higgins and even Edna Milton, whom the character of Mona is based upon), outakes (hilarious bloopers from the set), and the original theatrical trailer (using an original song sung by Dolly about the premise of the movie). I only wish that Burt Reynolds deleted musical number had been included but I guess we can't have everything! I consider this DVD a MUST HAVE for any of the following people: Theater lovers, Dolly fans, Texans, Whores.... EVERYONE! Do yourself a favor and buy, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas... Its a howling good time!

Summary: BETTER THAN BROADWAY
Review: I have seen this show on Broadway, and the movie version is much better than the stage version. Some here writes a review that the heart is gone from the story. Very wrong! Most of the people I watch this with have a few tears, and a heck of a great time. Dolly's finest role for the screen. The songs cut from the broadway version for this film were the worst anyway, and the 2 new added songs are excellent and placed in the film perfectly. It does have some adult humor, the this would be rated PG nowadays, not the R it was given then.

If you want to see a heartwarming musical (does have an adult theme (No frontal nudity, backsides mainly), this is one great film. He also states in his review it did not do well at the boxoffice. It made almost 50 million dollars, which converted to today's dollar would equal that of the gross of such films as LILO AND STITCH. It was not a boxoffice disaster by any means. I just jope Universal's home video dvd version finally includes a stereo soundtrack.

Summary: LOVE THIS MOVIE.......BUT
Review: I love Dolly Parton i am a huge fan...........but let's talk about how the makers of this DVD let down the customers. I was hoping to see the deleted scenes that they took out of this movie and the new scenes like the BURT REYNOLDS song that he does after him and Dolly have a fight........and for one of your reviewers the song "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU" was NOT MADE FOR THIS MUSICAL. She wrote the song for Porter Wagoner when she decided to quit working with him on his show. Just a little bit of history for you viewers out there.

Summary: A Delight!!!
Review: I was in college when this movie came out and I missed it back then. I didn't think it was going to be any good.

I ended up buying it, as I'm collecting every movie that's ever been nominated or has won an Oscar, that's available on DVD. I was reluctant to purchase this one, but the price was excellent, and grabbed it.

What made this movie such a treat is the quality of the photography by William Fraker, the musical numbers, especially "Hard Candy Christmas" (fabulous!)and "I'll Always Love You" (which I cannot understand why it wasn't nominated for an Oscar as best song, since Dolly Parton wrote it, to my knowledge, for this film and it is great!); the dancing, superb; the whole tongue-in-cheek approach (albeit for adults--this is not a movie for kids) works; and they way they got away with all the whole thing, is astonishing. Granted, it's based on a very popular Broadway musical, but they seldom translate well to the screen...and with Burt and Dolly in the leading roles? Well, they're fabulous! Dolly is simply magical, and everything about her is perfect for her role as the madam Miss Mona.

Charles Durning as the governor of Texas does a brief but smashing job--it's a brilliant sequence, and now I understand why he was nominated as best supporting actor for this movie.

Overall, if you want to have a good time, light fun, listen to some good tunes, and ultimately feel strangely satisfied and happy, I recommend this film. It's actually excellent and hasn't aged a bit in 20 years...it's more fresh today than probably back when I was in college and thought it was "trash".

Now I think it's a pleasure. Not for kids, however. But adults who aren't as snobbish as some college students can be at times, will get a kick out of this surprising delight!

Summary: Sign Those Guys Up !!
Review: I went to Texas A&M in the 1970s, while the Chicken Ranch in La Grange was operating like wildfire, before Marvin Zindler (a Houston TV station reporter upon which Dom DeLouise's character was based) campaigned to shut down the place. I never made it to the real Chicken Ranch -- I was always too busy studying.

The male ballerinas who portrayed the Texas Aggie football players in the movie appeared to be significantly more athletic than the guys on the real team at that time. The film fellows were muscular and fast, they moved gracefully and decisively, and they executed their formations with competence that the real team could only dream about. Those fellows should have been on the real-life Aggie football team. They might have won many more games than the perpetual-also-ran Ags did, in the waning days of Coach Gene Stallings. Hoowah.

Summary: Great musical
Review: If you are a true fan of musicals and comedy, this is a must-see. Dolly has the charm. Burt has the attitude. Charles has the decision. And Dom has the socks (gotta see it to believe it). This movie has a great soundtrack with a lot of lively dance numbers. The girls were beautiful and talented (whoo-whee).
