Summary: Cute & 80's
Review: This is a fun movie, and so typical of the 80s' weird concept movies. The whole family can enjoy this - the story line can be picked up by all ages. And it's great for kids of the 80's wanting to relive those fun years.A really sweet and fluffy story. It is annoying in parts (like an over-the-top flamboyant gay guy that really is the epitome of 80's gay stereo-typing) Or how no one thinks much of a guy obsessed with a shop window mannequin. But then you remind yourself, that it is just a bit of fun; you really arent supposed to take this seriously. And finding it funny doesnt totally undermine your intelegence... too much. (I bought it!!) Extremely well cast, both lead and supporting actors.

Summary: Poorly mastered - Obviously not restored
Review: This is a wonderfully entertaining comedy. However, I was disappointed at the picture and audio quality of this particular DVD release. The picture is somewhat blurry and the audio is very poor, sounding only slightly better than the original VHS release. I would be interested to know if the 2003 release of Mannequin / Kansas is any better.

Summary: I don't care what the critics say....
Review: This is among my very most favorite movies... despite what the critics had to say about it. It provided plenty of action, commedy, and the music score was second to none. OK, so the premise is a little odd... but it was at least an imaginative modification of "The Frog Prince". This particular "frog", Emmy, played aptly by Kim Cattral, was an rescued from an unwanted arranged marriage in ancient Egypt, and reincarnated several times over the centuries. She eventually ends up in 1980's America as a mannequin that no one other than Jonathan, the male lead, can see as a living woman. She turns back into a mannequin if anyone else looks at her. It ends up developing into a love story of sorts, and ends... well, I won't give away the entire story. One item that I found especially noteworthy is that when Emmy is given the precious gift of life, the very first thing she does when she realizes it is to look to Heavens and thank the gods (Emmy was polytheistic remember). We should all take that attitude when Good Things happen to us. I guess the polytheistic bend is what got it past the atheistic Hollywood censors. This is also quite possibly what got the bad reviews. God forbid that a supreme being be credited for anything!

Summary: Nothing's Going to Stop This Movie From Being a Classic!!
Review: This is yet one of my favorite romantic comedy movies of the 80's. With such stars as Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall (Sex in the City), Estell Getty (Golden Girls), James Spader, G.W. Bailey (Police Academy), and Meshach Taylor (Designing Women).
It's about a man Jonathan Switcher who isn't having much luck job wise (Who is these days), until he creates his masterpiece Mannequin, and finds her while working at a new job at Prince in Company (A failing store). She comes to life and tells him that she was born many years and centuries ago in Egypt, together they build magnificent store windows that helps Prince in Company get more than back on their feet. However, another rival company is trying to get their business back and by what ever means possible. As well as stealing Emmy (the Mannequin) to get Jonathan to work for them.
I think this classic romantic comedy is still a hit today with great colorful characters such as Hollywood, the quirky cop, and the romantic story line between Emmy (Kim Cattrall) and the handsome Jonathan (Andrew McCarthy).
Let's not forget the hit song by Starship called "Nothing's Going to Stop Us." Everyone today will love this movie. Even though its corney as well as it's storyline Mannequin will be a classic 80's film throughout the years.
The DVD is pretty average it has a trailer and a few other related movie trailers. I was hopping it would have the music video for "Nothing's Going to Stop Us" but no such luck. A huge plus is that it has a Widescreen or Fullscreen choice. So it makes up for all of the stuff it doesn't have. So I would give the movie A and the DVD a C! But it is still worth the buy for this movie and if your a DVD collector. :)

Summary: Fluffy 80's Fun
Review: Those of you out there looking for a horribly deep movie won't bother with Mannequin, of course. My boyfriend laughs at me for stating it's one of my favorite movies of all time, but heck, what does he know? It's campy, it's corny, it's oh-so-dated, but it's hilariously fun. 'Mannequin' is the story of an Egyptian princess (neat concept played fluffily well by Kim Cattrall) that is cursed to become a Mannequin unless she's in the presence of the person she chooses to reveal herself to. Andrew McCarthy is Jonathan, a down-on-his luck stockboy that's got a chance to make something of himself by helping decorate the storefront windows in a failing department store in NYC. That's where Cattrall's mannequin Emmy steps in, and the two fall in love (come on, you knew they would). The fun thing about this movie is that it's chock full of 80's goodness. I'm not just talking the clothes or the music (though those are great too), I'm talking about the actors as well. Not only do you have 80's king Andrew McCarthy, but we have James Spader playing the slimy manager of a competing store, and GW Bailey (from the Police Academy movies) playing a slightly off-kilter security guard. Meschach Taylor almost steals the entire movie away with his portrayal of Hollywood Henderson, a flamboyant gay man with strange eyeglasses and a penchant to cry at the thought of True Love. It's fun and fluffy overall, but it's entertaining. Those of you that saw it in the 80's will love the walk down memory lane. My only complaint (and why it didn't get 5 stars from me) is that the DVD is rather cheap. Cheap box, and zero extras. My advice is that if you just want it for a one time viewing, get the VHS. If you want it to add to your DVD collection, then get the DVD, because it's fairly reasonably priced.

Summary: Are you kidding me?
Review: What a waste of marketing and production dollars. Was there anyone who rented Mannequin on VHS in the last five years who thought "Gosh, this movie would be so much better in digital widescreen"? Could be worse, I guess. It could come bundled with Mannequin 2.

Summary: Obvious, Immature, and Foolish - But...
Review: Women may enjoy the romantic, hopeful elements of the story. Check the reviews on this movie. Everyone is correct. Obvious, silly, with a screenplay that sounds like it's written by a high school male - performances are broad and cartoonish. All participants are a stereotype. However, on closer scrutiny, the real villains in this movie are not the conniving men, but the shallow, bitchy women. One frustrated clown, articulates the theme - surrounded by beautiful women, he cries out that he wants a mannequin. That is, a kind, woman who can nurture. That's the irony and the romantic appeal of the movie. A nerd lucks out by finding love with a beautiful phantom soul. I should know better, but I like this movie.

Summary: CLASSIC FAIRY TALE ROMANCE IN MODERN DAY!
Review: WOW, one of those rare finds from the 80's A true romance commedy with all the right stars protrayed here. Keeps your attention the whole way through. Very confused on the few people who rated this movie so low, are they jeleous?, that there lives are so boring or something, that they have to knock down such a classic as this gem of a movie?

Review: Yes, I am openly and willingly admitting to watching and liking this movie!! Okay so what if it's just a silly comedy and an 80's one at that?? It's fun, entertaining, and a lot of laughs. And Estelle Getty is in it!! Hello?! Sophia Petrillo?! Golden Girls anyone? It's everything a comedy should be, simple, funny, and entertaining for a bit.
