Summary: Funny 80s memories and very wrong feelings...
Review: I'm not usually into cutesy and/or lighthearted humor, or slapstick comedy outside of the Three Stooges and Chris Farley. But after taking a look at 'Mannequin' for the first time in several years, I think I can make an exception in this instance. Filled with many instances of the aforementioned comedy subgenres, this light and enjoyable romantic comedy-fantasy is a nice change of pace from the heavier action & sci-fi fare I usually watch. And alongside 'Xanadu', 'Buckaroo Banzai', and 'Back to the Future', 'Mannequin' really stands out as a notable showcase of the styles & fashion that made the 80s so memorable! Ah, pink spandex and pastel-colored narrow neckties...Especially enjoyable was Meschach Taylor's overwhelmingly over-the-top portrayal of 'Hollywood' Montrose, an unabashed and definitely out-of-the-closet stereotype of gaiety. I never thought I'd see the day when Mr. Humphries from the BBC series 'Are You Being Served?' would be outdone in the flamboyance department! GW Bailey as the department store security guard brings inept bumbling to new heights, with a little of that 'Police Academy' anal-retentive authority-figure clowning thrown in for good measure! And how can I forget the titular star, Kim Cattrall! I don't know about the rest of you guys out there, but I was definitely feelin' the ol' raging hormones whenever she stepped into frame! Ooh yeah! Whoops, gotta cut this short, 'cuz it's cold shower time... 'Late!

Summary: For the nostalgia crowd only
Review: If you remember this movie fondly from when you were younger, fine. Whatever floats your boat. We all have guilty pleasures of some kind. For anyone else, in case all these other good reviews have you fooled, this is a bad movie. Really bad. It was assembled out of used parts in the Stock 80's Romantic Comedy Factory. Even if you're comfortable with the absurd premise (Weird Science without the science), the plot is completely transparent, and within 10 minutes you will foresee every single thing that happens in this movie. Of course, there have been comedies that have been really funny even though the premise and the plot were old hat. But this movie just isn't very funny either, and that's what dooms it. The "humor" is primarily comprised of weak, obvious situation comedy moments. Kim Cattrall is a pretty decent comedienne, but Andrew McCarthy is one of the worst actors who's ever been allowed to be the lead in a major studio release. Worse than Keanu. Almost as bad as Chris O'Donnell. If anyone doubts me, go rent Less Than Zero and note how he completely destroys that movie by playing exactly the same guy he plays in every movie he's ever been in, even though the role calls for something completely different. Like some actual acting. If, for some reason, you think Andrew McCarthy is really charming and witty, you'll probably like this movie. But for anyone else, avoid it like Sorority Boys 2.

Summary: Guilty Pleasure from the 80s
Review: In an era where big hair, ripped jeans, and bad movies were the norm, Mannequin simply shines. While not especially noteworthy as a film, it becomes memorable for the fact that it's not as stupid as most films in the 80s were. The movie manages to remain charming and fun all the way through due to the eccentricty of its characters and good acting.
Cattrall and McCarthy are the strongest in this movie, and they manage to make you forget reality for a little while. Cattrall's enthusiasm and innocence is well-balanced by McCarthy's skepticism and good humor, and they pull the viewer into the simple and often silly plot of an ancient Egyptian princess reborn as a mannequin who happens to fall in love with her maker who now works as a department store window dresser and the two have a Calvin and Hobbes-like relationship (Cattrall only comes to life when alone with McCarthy). However, the most memorable character is Hollywood, the flamboyently gay and hysterical window dresser played by Meshach Taylor (Anthony from Designing Women).
Charming, simple, and fun, this is a great flick to put on the TV on a friday night while hanging out with friends or just that special someone.

Review: MANNEQUIN is a cute romantic comedy from the era that style forgot...the 80's. The film features a gorgeous pre-"Sex and the City" Kim Cattrall as the titular character. Jonathan Switcher (Andrew McCarthy) is a frustrated artist, living from crummy job to crummy job, and coming to the end of a rocky relationship with the ... Roxie (Carole Davis). When kindly Claire Timkin (Estelle Getty - TV's "The Golden Girls") gives him a job at her floundering department store, he is re-united with his favorite project, a gorgeous blonde mannequin. When the mannequin comes alive and declares that she is Emmy, an Egyptian maiden from over 1,000 years before (played by Kim Cattrall), he is more than a little amazed. With Emmy's help, he re-invents the department store as a cutting-edge fashion centre and finds the love of his life. The film also features Meshach Taylor (TV's "Designing Women") as Jonathan's flamboyant assistant Hollywood, and also stars James Spader, G.W. Bailey, Stephen Vinovich and Christopher Maher. The DVD includes both fullscreen and widescreen versions of the film as well as the trailer and DVD trailers for "The Princess Bride: Special Edition" and "Fiddler on the Roof: Special Edition". Review: Mannequin was a movie I grew up with and i just fell in love with. i don't even know why but I will always love Mannequin. Mannequin stars Andrew McCarthy and despite what the other reviewer says I think he's a pretty good actor. It also stars Estelle Getty from the Golden Girls and Mescach Taylor from Designing Women, they were both hysterical! Anyways I like this movie no matter what anyone says.

His role simply reflects what the "men in the suits" felt was appropriate for a window dresser. The film is mindless and was not intended to be an Oscar contender. It should be seen as part of a double bill with another Andrew McCarthy opus: "Weekend at Bernie's". Both are entertaining fare, nothing more and nothing less.

Review: ok its 1987, kim cattral (emmy\emma hezeray) is an egyptian princess that asks the gods to help her find a time that is right for her. so she goes through many different centuries and time and finally comes to 1987 as a mannequin. Andrew McCarthy (jonothan switcher)is going through one of his numerous jobs and happens to be working in a mannquin factory and puts emmy together. He then gets a job as a window dresser in the department store (prince and company)where emmy a mannequin has now been placed. she can only come to life in front of jonothan,because she chose him. they fall in love, eventually te gods allowed her to come alive in front of andy the clerk from illustra because she was almost shredded w other manequins and so she came to life so she could grab on to jonothans arm and help him pull her up from the shredding machine. They get married and (nothing's gonna stop them now.) also the sequel to this movie which is called (mannequin two on the move1991)was also good(medival fairytale about peasant maid who is turned into mannequin for a thousand years by evil sorceror because she and (prince william of hauptmankoenig)fell in love\basically same plot as first one except she can't come alive until the window dressor jason williamson who is actually the prince reincarnated, takes off the neckalace that holds the curse since he is her true love.) the sequel stars kristy swanson(the original buffy the vampire slayer) and william ragsdale from(the fright night films.) both movies ar excellnt and just filled with 80's and early 90's fun. these are must see films.
