Rating: Summary: The Replacements delivers Review: When the pros go on strike Gene Hackman is brought in as the new coach of the Washington Sentinels. He has to build a team of replacement players capable of winning three out of four to get to the playoffs. He assembles a team including a washed out all american Quarterback, a ex-soccer player with a gambling problem, a psyco cop, a preaching tailback, a deaf tightend, a sumo wrestler, a temporarly released con and a fast big mouth wide receiver that couldn't catch a ball if his life depended on it.I love this movie. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes football. Its full of laughs, sure you see some of them coming but there still funny. Jon Favreau was great as Bateman the psyco cop turned middle linebacker. The soundtrack is awesome. The DVD has a decent amount of options. My only complaint is that the movie seems to have some editing problems during the football games. It just was not pieced together correctly. If you have your doubts about this film rent it you wont be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: why would anyone like this movie? Review: this movie was so dumb, i cannot believe that I wasted my money renting this... anyone with half a wit can see the "jokes" coming from a mile away, the characters are complete stereotypes, i just cannot think of one good thing about this dumb dumb dumb stupid lame film. the only reason i'm writing this review is because i am so dumbfounded by the good reviews that others are giving it; i just have to warn others out there that this is really not worth your time. i can see if you liked "major league" that you might like this one, because major league was almost as stupid.
Rating: Summary: The Replacements Review: TERRIFIC. Keanu Reeves does a fantastic job. Brooke Langton is great as well as beautiful. I'm in love with her. In the scene in the pub she uses certain looks to explain just what she is thinking. The scenes with her and Keanu Reeves are great. The background music just adds to the enjoyment of this film This movie really helps you get an inside look at football. I would like to see a sequel where the cast of replacements gets brought in to the Sentinels as regular players. I think there are enough situations that can be expanded on to make a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Predictable, but incredibly funny! Review: There is not big secret to the plot of this movie. You have seen it before, in movies like Major League, but the comedy in this movie is second to none. Amidst a players strike the Washington Sentinels hire replacement players and coaches to finish the season. With only three more wins the Sentinels can make the playoffs. Enter Gene Hackman. He is the maverick coach that brings in the most unlikely group of players the league has ever seen. In just a few weeks he works his magic and tries to transform this group of losers into a winning team. Hackman is probably to greatest actor on the planet, and he proves why in this movie. He takes an ordinary script with average dialogue and delivers it in such a way to make you feel and believe what he is saying. Keanu Reeves is the "Never Was" quarterback who does his best to lead the team to victory, and along the way falls in love with the head cheerleader. Along the way he has to deal with angry striking players, and a bevy of nuts that have given up their day jobs to play professional football. The group includes an insane S.W.A.T. cop, a felon on work release, a Sumo wrestler, two professional body guards, and the fastest grocery clerk on the planet played brilliantly by Orlando Jones (the 7UP guy). The action is well paced and the football sequences look real enough to please the avid football fan. Veteran announcers John Madden and Pat Summerall lend their talents to the film and give that added touch of realism. Hackman is the consummate wise old coach, and Reeves gives a passable performance as the struggling quarterback. Even the romantic scenes are well written and evenly placed within the film, but the real star of this movie is the in your face slapstick, side splitting humor peppered throughout the film. From the cheerleader tryouts to the dancing huddle you will be laughing from start to finish.
Rating: Summary: Excellent ! Review: Absolutely a must to watch if you are any bit a sports fan. This movie is funny, entertaining, and at times touching.
Rating: Summary: Yea I Know... Review: This one was as formulated as they come, but I really didn't care once I started watching it. This was one funny movie. If you liked Major League this is for the most part the same plot, different sport. The football scenes were done very well and looked great. The cast was surprisingly good. Sorry. I know I shouldn't like this movie so much.....but I do! As far as the 4 stars, well Gladiator was the only 5 star for 2000 in my book.
Rating: Summary: If only Review: The movie is excellent - humorous, creative, and great acting. Hackman and Reeves don't get much better than this. It's a good movie both on the field and off the field. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the DVD is widescreen -I'm waiting to buy it on VHS.
Rating: Summary: My wife liked it too. Review: Let's give it 3 1/2 stars. It's funny. Lots of football stereotypes, I think they all may be covered in this one. Broadly drawn characters. Hackman was good. Didn"t have to streach his acting muscles much. Pass the popcorn. Worth the rental price. I watched it once. Wouldn't buy it.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Movie Review: I would highly recommend this movie. I'm not really a football fan but this was such a funny movie. The characters are great and made me want to watch it again. As a matter of fact, I think I will buy it!
Rating: Summary: What a pleasant surprise! Review: As a football nut, I was quite eager to see this film, as I have been every football movie I've ever heard anything about (excpet Rudy). The movie was great! Very uplifting, down to earth, and qutie witty. Gene Hackman delivers a solid performance as always, and Keanu Reeves does a solid job as well. My wife, who by this time in late December is sick to death of football, even raved about it. Nothing too deep here, just a great, fun, easy to watch movie for football fans and non-fans alike.
