Summary: "REPLACE" something on your shelf with THIS !!
Review: Great movie!! Have already watched it twice, once with my wife (she liked it) and once with my father (loved it). Great story, great laughs, hard hits, and great cast of characters. Like other reviewers, this movie also reminded me of Major League in regards to a strike in which "replacement" players must be used. This movie flowed great, and the music really matched the action on the screed. The DVD had some pretty good extras too.

Summary: Pleasant for what it is - a funny little film
Review: Four stars may seem a better rating than the film deserves, but this is from the perspective of rating the movie for what it is - a comedy meant to give a few laughs and a nice "believe in yourself" type message at the end.

Keanu and company essentially play out the football version of the comedy "Major League". There are even some of the same personalities present - the religious player, the convict, the level-headed guy who keeps them all together. The interactions and foibles of the characters likewise have a slapstick, likeable quality to them.

Sure, it's predictable, and certainly it's no Oscar winner, but it is funny in some parts. Everything is wrapped up in the traditional Hollywood bow at the end, with a couple of moralistic rah-rah speeches thrown in. With a little less profanity and sexual innuendo, this could be a Disney feel-good film. The formula is there, but as often is the case, the formula is not all that bad for a two hour diversion.

Summary: Good for a laugh!
Review: This movie had some pretty funny parts especially with the cheerleaders. They are by far the funniest part of the show especially when they are trying to spell "sentinels" and the "Who's your daddy?" part. Gene Hackman doesn't do much for a movie with a good premise but leaves a lot to be desired. Basically, the NFL players go on strike leaving "scabs" to play in their place. Keanu Reeves, who's best acting is in My Little Buddha, plays the quarterback who gets the head cheerleader. It's good for a rental but I wouldn't suggest buying it.

Summary: A good fun movie with heart.
Review: Okay this isn't the most original movie out there. And it follows a very set and predictable formula. But given all that you still want the guys to succeed. You still want them to rise above what they thought they were and find something special. It's a good all round feel good movie about not quiting and of the strength of good friends. The plot is small but the laughs are big. Making this film well worth the watch and money. My wife loved this film and she has no love of football. Which makes me think that you do not have to be a big football fan to enjoy the movie. 5 stars well deserved.

Summary: WHY was this movie made???
Review: The replacements is just plain Terrible. This could be one of the worst movies ever made. I would not even give this movie one star, but, you have to if you want to post a review.

Summary: A High Adrenaline Footbally Fairy Tale
Review: Being an avid football fan, I would give this movie five starsif the only people reading... were football fans. I'm not sure if people that do not understand football will enjoy this movie as much, but The Replacements hits every thing that Any Given Sunday missed.

Any Given Sunday has more star actors/actresses, ex-NFL players, etc. but it missed the spirit that this movie captures. The pure love of the game was never captured by Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday but The Replacements (the other NFL strike year movie last year) does that and more.

This movie is comparable to Major League with an NFL twist and less comedy. The Washington Sentinels (which is fictional; no NFL team names in this movie) with their new coach (Gene Hackman) must win 3 out of 4 games to go to the playoffs. The replacement players consist of a sumo wrestling offensive lineman, 'choker' quarterback, ex-convict defensive back, reborn again christian halfback, etc. It makes for an enjoyable movie and captures the excitement, comraderie and adrenaline that anyone who plays or watches football feels on a regular basis.

If you're a fan of the game, you'll be cheering for the onscreen team as much as you did for your favorite pro or college team's last big game. A great message for anyone that feels today's pro athetes with their large salaries and endoresements have lost track of what it feels like to play the game in it's purest form.

Summary: MUCH BETTER THAN "ANY GIVEN SUNDAY"
Review: I recently rented this movie from Blockbuster and found it to be one of the better football movies (At times, it was even side-splitting funny)...It certainly was much better than "Any Given Sunday".

Really though, what I want to say is this: The idiots should refrain from writing reviews until they can learn how to spell, use proper punctuation, learn proper grammar usage and learn proper sentence structure. It seems that the reviewers who are the most harsh are the ones who are least likely to write an error-free sentence. (Gasp!) Shocker.

Summary: "A Movie About Tackle Football"
Review: "The Replacements" ended up being a very funny and entertaining story about overcoming what seemed impossible. This time, it was with adult athletes, while usually these kinds of movies involve pre-teens. The 7-Up guy is very funny in it and there are a lot of cheerleader gags, but they are original. The idea of this movie is based on true events. A few problems were in this that suggest that [borrowed] material may have been involved in this. The scene where Keanu Reeves vomits in the huddle was a carbon copy of Jaime Foxxs' actions in "Any Given Sunday". Now, "Any Given Sunday" and "The Replacements" are both Warner Bros. movies, but "Sunday" is one year younger. The idea was never used in any other sports movie and I have to take a lot from this because of it(though I saw "Any Given Sunday" after "The Replacements". Keanu actually acts in this and he doesn't usually. The last problem was that the replacement team made the playoffs and then the movie was over. The better thing to do would be to have the replacements one game away from the playoffs and then see them go on to the playoffs and become champions. Those are two fairly big mistakes, but it is still better than what I expected it to be...

Summary: What an "AWFUL" movie!
Review: This was not only one of the worst sports movies I've ever saw, it was one of the worst movies I've ever saw. The script was really bad, as was the movie making as a whole ... the absolute worse thing was the acting ... ughhhhh .... what was Gene Hackman thinking getting into this piece of trash. Hackman was in one of the greatest sports movies ever, in Hoosiers, but I've lost a little bit of respect for him, getting involved in this horrible film. What's even worse than this movie, is that it runs for 2 whole agonizing hours. All I can say is after watching this movie is, "I'll never get those 2 hours back again!"
