Rating: Summary: A controllers view Review: As a controller, most of the air traffic scenes within the approach control were well researched. I felt like I was inside a IFR room where the real controlling takes place. The characters personalities were about the way real controllers are, at least at my facility. The plot line was a little off. No controller would plug into position and start working airplanes without first bieng trained and watched by a rated controller, but this is hollywood. And no person, controller or not, would be allowed onto a active runway while a jet is landing. All in all, it was a good film that gives a very realistic view into our unusual and misunderstood profession.
Rating: Summary: A Great Film! Review: I'm reading a lot of reviews dogging this movie, but I must strongly disagree. I don't know anything about the airline business, but I've gained a whole new respect for ATC's. I found this movie to be a fascinating study of primal male rivalry in its purest and most basic form. I cannot think of another actor who could have portrayed the character of Russell Bell with greater entrancing, hypnotic elegance than Billy Bob Thornton. Ladies, if you like Billy Bob even a little, you would love him in this movie. Aside from the eyeball rolling reconcilliation between the Falzones at the end, this movie was surprisingly unpredicatable, highly entertaining, brilliantly acted by all, and quite a refreshing change of pace. It's also one of those movies that's better the second time around, in some spots things happen so quickly subtle nuances can be missed. Lighten up and enjoy it for the sheer entertainment it provides.
Rating: Summary: Pushing Trash Review: This was clearly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I could not conceive of who would have read the script and agreed to take part in this debacle. A serious waste of celluloid. Is risking people's lives so that you can appear cool to your alcoholic, philandering, uncaring co-workers meant to be funny? A better night would be spent listening to traffic reports--it would be as funny and entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I rented the movie due to it's great cast, and the promising premise. However, it was very disappointing, the movie left me saying "so what?". The acting was excellent, and there were some great scenes, but it was incredibly boring and silly. This movie is only worth watching if you have some time to kill.
Rating: Summary: On a Wing and a Scare Review: I had heard good reviews of this movie, but nothing prepared me for the minor masterpiece that it is.Like Woody Allen's movies, there isn't really any "plot" in particular - it's just cast based - and boy, what a cast. The ever-delectable Cusack hits the nail on the head perfectly in a portrayal of 1990s stress, in perfect contrast to Billy Bob Thornton's chilled-out Zen guru. Angelina Jolie is both mysterious and intriguing, but the true winner is Cate Blanchett in an underwritten role. She's much better here than in Elizabeth, ironically. The script sparkles, with some genuinely funny one-liners you'll remember. This is a great movie and I can't imagine anyone but the most hard hearted not enjoying it.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst movies I've seen Review: I am rather shocked by those that have seen this movie and actually think it has some merit. I watched it due to great performances by the actors in previous flicks, and thought that they could at least turn in some decent scenes in case the rest of the movie was poor. Unfortunately, I am sure that all of them would like to have this movie removed from their resume. I wanted to laugh, was dying to laugh, but could not. This movie was not funny. If it were, it would compensate for an awful plot. The characters are not developed to the point that one cares about them or understands their plight. Cusack gives one of the most annoying performances of his career, trying to act his way out of a lame script. This movie started OK, but it is clear soon after that the characters are uninteresting because they have nothing to say. An aside - why does Cusack always have to play basketball in nis movies? At the end of the movie I decided it must have been some sort of failed black comedy, but likely I was reaching, just as all the actors had to with the flimsy script.
Rating: Summary: Umpteen number of plot twists Review: I just finished watching it and I thought it was great. The cinematics are great of the airplanes plus it was funny whenever the wake turbulence hits and they get ragdolled.
Rating: Summary: CRASH AND BURN! Review: If your a pilot like me and enjoy a good plane flick, this is not the movie for you. Besides Cate Blanchette being a hotty there is nothing to this movie. Not only is there very little quality aviation related material, it glorifies controllers as hip, hard drinking, cool guys. Give me a break.
Rating: Summary: not bad..not great either.. Review: This movie has some fine acting done by Billy Bob and Cate Blanchette. John Cusack was pretty good, but he is far from the talent that billy bob holds. The film itself wasn't as good as it's talented actors, but it was okay for a rental.
Rating: Summary: Not quite fulfilling its potential Review: Though genuinely humorous at times, Pushing Tin never quite lives up to its potential. Billy Bob Thornton and John Cusack give excellent performances as expected; but the story seems to fight with itself in a jolting, jarring, stop-start pace. The movie is well worth renting, (there is even some added humor for pilots/controllers) but is really not worth the purchase price. It should be enjoyed for what it is, a good two hour diversion; but should not have anything more expected of it.
