Rating: Summary: A very simple concept. Review: Harold Ramis occasionally makes good films -- "Groundhog Day" being the most obvious, although I, unlike most people, even liked "Multiplicity" -- "Analyze This" really isn't one of them. Having a mob boss in therapy is almost as obvious as the old pie-in-the-face-routine. The jokes simply aren't that fresh. To pull this wobbly material off, you need some good actors, and we get just that. Robert De Niro gives this film whatever enjoyability you can find from it. Indeed, in one of the film's rather unexpected bits, he commences bawling while watching some sappy TV commerical -- it's the freshest scene in the film. Shooting pillows to relieve anger (Crystal: "Hit the pillow!"), however, is more typical of the unimaginative humor herein. Particularly disappointing was the performance of the presumably "funny" actor, Mr. Crystal. His bland work looks as if it was lifted straight from that awful "Father's Day". He literally cowers in De Niro's presence, but it's not very amusing. The best "straight man" performances should be every bit as amusing as the more obvious comic relief.
Rating: Summary: one of the funniest... Review: I love to laugh anyway, but this is seriously one of the funniest movies I have EVER seen. Everything about it is well done with the one glaring exception of poor Lisa Kudrow, who is just completely out of sync with what is going on throughout the entire film. Other than that, Ramis has crafted a side-splittingly funny work. I dont usually ever "buy" videos (actually now I have a brand new dvd!) but this is one for the shelf...to pull out whenever you feel the world is being unfair... just sit back and howl.
Rating: Summary: First of all....I loved it. Review: First of all....I loved it. This is one film that will definitely have you laughing for a long time. The image of the mafia has moved from the Godfather of the 70s to the Sopranos of the 90s. Here you have Robert DeNiro playing a very well-known and visible crime family head who seems to be having a stressful time in his chosen career. DeNiro chooses to seek assistance (probably from seeing so many of those Charter commercials) and tracks down Billy Crystal for help. For the next two hours you watch the client/doctor relationship grow and develop through some very comical scenes. Billy Crystal is outstanding in his role as a psychiatrist and DeNiro is tremendous as a member of the Mafia. If you are having a hard time imagining DeNiro in a comedic role, then this is a must see film, for you won't believe it unless you see it. Bottom line...if more Mafia members would be willing to seek help, then maybe we can have a kinder and gentler crime world.
Rating: Summary: If you like De Niro, stay away. Review: I bought this DVD right after I watched RONIN, and Heat. I am also a fun of Billy and love comedies. This movie is not funny at all except for a few scenes. Kudrow should not be in this movie, she made the average-quality film below-average. Billy did so-so job, but De Niro does not seem to be serious to act here. They could add French track so that I could get at least some advantage from this. I just started to learn French.
Rating: Summary: Pretty funny flick, pretty good DVD Review: This is one of the funniest movies in recent years. The DVD transfer provides good color and sound. The DVD also has a few added bonuses like a gag reel and commentary tracks. Worth buying and a must rental.
Rating: Summary: sweet, sassy, super! Review: De Niro is great in a panic disorder mob who is trying to get in touch with his true feelings whereas Crystal is hilarous in most of the scenes but especially the one where all the mob kings meet up...
Rating: Summary: Good Comedy, but DeNiro's Commentary is weak Review: Overall, a very funny and well acted movie. I enjoyed the movie very much (several Godfather references mixed in). After seeing the film, I listened to the Crystal/DeNiro commentary. Crystal was solid during the commentary, giving insight into the movie (he was also executive producer) that is otherwise unavailable. But DeNiro seemed put no effort into it at all. While I really enjoy Robert DeNiro films, I was truly disappointed with his effort on the commentary track. He makes a reference about half way through that this is his first one, so maybe he needs practice, but he could have added so much insight, but most of the time just gave us dead airtime. Crystal and DeNiro should have been together to do it - they could have played off one another. As it is, Crystal put his commentary down first, leaving large holes for DeNiro to fill, and he mostly didn't. Very disappointing. The film is terrific - one of the best comedies in recent years. But if you are looking for great DeNiro insight as an extra feature, keep looking.
Rating: Summary: Awfull Review: This film is Bobby Deniro at his worst. the script is not funny and Billy Crystal just gets in the way of a terrible film. I was forced to watch this as the mystery screening at the E.I.F.F(Edinburgh International Film Festival) and I was appaled. Avoid like "The Postman"
Rating: Summary: Analyze This Review: First of all, I'm a huge fan of The Godfather and The Sopranos. I'm also a huge DeNiro fan as well. Despite some of the negative critics, I found this movie well worth seeing due to DeNiro's display of comedy. The commentary by DeNiro and Crystal (DVD) provided unique insight from the actors perspective. The hilarious gag reel truly humanized a great actor of DeNiro's calibur...
Rating: Summary: De Niro must have been blackmailed into this stinker. Review: This is lame. Lame story. Lame acting. Lame humour. I usually like the movies in which De Niro plays. In this one he's as lame as the rest, and even at his best he wouldn't have made a significant difference. If anything it would have been more ridiculous.
