Summary: Very provocative and surreal
Review: I did not get what was happening until I saw it for a second time!It turns out that Jasmine (German lady) was a space alien. Her male friend, who couldn't figure out forward or reverse in the car, was also one. She accidentally got the wrong suitcase when they broke up, and that's why she had the Leaderhosen and other male clothes in her room. The picture of the "space ships" were drawn by Jack Palance and were hanging in her motel room. BTW: Jack was perfect for the part. She thought she was in Bagdad, Saudi Arabia. That's why she asked Brenda "is this all there is?" She started out in Africa (1 sec flash back of her standing in the Aborigine boiling pot). She thought Brenda was more of the same. Her two "powers" were making harmony and levitation. That's why she had to have everything neat. And why the tattoo lady left saying that there was "too much harmony". Then the cafe gave magic show performances drawing up to 36 big rigs. When Palance proposed her last words were "Ill have to check with Brenda" because Brenda had become her best friend and she didn't want to break up the harmony.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I saw this movie for the first time this past weekend. It was such a wonderful movie. I laughed and cried with the characters. I loved the German woman, Jasmin. She was very attractive. As well as CCH Pounder as Brenda. She was great as the mean, over worked head of household woman. What caught my eye about this movie was the song "Calling You" by J. Steele. I heard this song years ago as the back drop to an AT&T commercial. It was pretty then and even more prettier here. It was a fabulous soundtrack and excellent movie. I will be purchasing the video for my private collection 10 years after it was originally released.

Review: A dear friend described a wondrful new relationship as having begun/feeling like this movie. I sought & was fascinated but appalled there is a 108 minute German version to which I can find no access. Is there assistance from cyberspace?

Summary: Great Sleeper! J Palance's Rebirth! A must for video library
Review: Intelligent, humorous, but deep lessons for the whole family. Jack Palance is truly superb as an itenierant artiste! A glorious return to the belief in "The Magic" which is life, with all its warts and eccentricities. The friendship between two totally opposite, struggling (a strict German vs. an angry black) females, who have to survive the desert and each other, blooms and brings out the strenghths of each. Just about anyone, any age who has a slightly offbeat sense of humor will love this movie.

Review: I watch this movie evey chance I have. I think Dr. A. Hicks and Jack Palance are great. The theme was awesome. The movie stared off weird and I started not to watch it , but something said to stay put and I'm glad I did. I am trying to find the song "Calling You" I love the tund.

Summary: Funny and touching
Review: Bagdad Cafe is one of the most interesting movies I have seen for a long time. I saw this video in my college German class, it hits you as a typical "B" movie in the beginning, but the whole plot changes after the character's lives become intertwined with each other and then it takes a more personal view of how they all see each other, they all become friends, but when the main character ( The Bavarian woman) is to be deported back to Germany, their lives change and they think it can never be the same, but then she returns in the end and she knows how much she needs them and they need her. Funny and touching and very emotional.

Review:
Percy Aldon built a simple but haunting script in the middle of nowhere between two women. Both will enrich the life through a set of clever and incisive vignettes. Two cultures will join the best of its nature and the result will be a very original picture.
A powerful and funny film which joins to the elder major film Babette Feast as the two greatest films dedicated to the friendship : that treasure of the Gods.

Summary: Friends anyone would want...
Review: Everybody has said just about all there is to say about this little gem. A quirky little film that revels in its' own quirkiness. Marianne Sagebrecht is an absolute joy & watching her underplay & yet invite sympathy is a pleasure one doesn't receive very often in cinema anymore. Watch CCH Pounder slow melt to the "magic". Both performances are revelatory. It's full of magical characters who aren't going anywhere & you know what? I wouldn't want them to. They're perfect right where they are.

Review: I'd heard nothing but good things about this movie from critics and family members. Clearly, a lot of folks like this movie. It didn't do a lot for me, though. It had its moments.

Summary: Solid movie
Review: This is not a movie I would have ever watched if someone had described it to me, so I had to think a while about why I would recommend it. Here are the reasons I came up with. First, this is a great story. The movie flows well, keeps you wondering what's going to happen next, and the ending satisfies. Second, it only takes about fifteen minutes before you feel as if you live in the family-like atmosphere at the Bagdad Cafe/Motel. The characters are quirky, but down-to-earth and real: CCH Pounder is awesome in the role of the paranoid self-martyr; Marianne Sägebrecht is simply lovable; Jack Palance is a little creepy, but likeable and funny as an aged hippie (seeing him in such an odd role is almost worth buying the movie just for this). Third, it made me laugh - not belly laughs, but chuckles (mostly at the expense of the characters flaws)that might take a second viewing of the movie once you've learned more about the characters. Fourth, this movie has a great, but unforced message about accepting others for what they are, and just loosening up and living your life.
Buy this movie. It might not be one you'll pull out for the guys on poker night, but it will be one you can watch ten years from now and know it's a classic.
