Summary: A crossover actress blooms
Review: Not all singers can act. Not all actors can sing. Mandy Moore is one of the few that can do both. I enjoyed her part in "The Princess Diaries," but her turn as Jamie in "A Walk to Remember" made me a true Mandy fan. I saw "How to Deal" last night, and it was great. Halley Martin has nothing in common with Jamie Sullivan (except the hair color, but Mandy looks gorgeous as a brunette), and the fact that Mandy can play both parts shows how skilled she is becoming at acting. I haven't read the books, but plan to shortly. If the movie is any indication, the books are good. Trent Ford as Macon is not really the archetypal bad boy, but his aura makes you feel that he is. You can really understand Halley's pain and anger at falling in love when so many people around her are suffering because they let love in. "How to Deal" is another teen movie, but it's a good one. Mandy Moore shines leading a supporting cast of strong actors. If you loved Mandy before, you'll love her even more now.

Review: I'm going to review this movie based on what it was trying to accomplish and that is to create a sweet movie geared for teenage girls. Despite having a bad script and bad directing, all of the actors are likable and the story is charming. The biggest problem I have with the story though is the relationship between Mandy Moore and the guy. She's willing to have sex with him early on without even being in love. I didn't really see what she liked about him in the first place. I don't know what they have in common. I don't know what they talk about besides Star Wars. The movie might have been stronger if this guy wasn't in it at all. If you want to see Mandy Moore in a MUCH better movie watch "A Walk to Remember." She is a good actress though and this movie is worth watching just for her.

Summary: Silly and Embarrassing
Review: When Halley's loser dad divorces their mom for a trophy wife half his age, Halley rebels, dating bad boy Macon.What can I say? I didn't like this movie. I couldn't empathize with any of the characters, and thought Halley's parents needed to be less selfish and spend time actually PARENTING and less time pursuing ther own selfish interests. Both Halley and her sister were shockingly immature, and her sister was far too young to get married and act responsibly. Their relationships seemed doomed for failure. Instead of feeling 'inspired' and impressed with the 'plucky' female characters in this movie, I ended up feeling depressed at the decline of the American family. Two stars for a boring, and banal teen-flick

Review: Never watched the movie. But some say that it is like the book SOmeone Like You by Sarah Dessen with a few details changed. Uh duh. That's because they combined Someone Like You and another one of Sarah Dessen's books, That Summer, and combined it into one big happy movie. There. The mystery is solved

Summary: Depressing Plot saved by Strong Performances.
Review: How to Deal should change its name to How to cram every type of tragedy into 90 minutes. The film is pretty good, but scene after scene is another tradegy in Hallie Martins life. Theres a divorce, teen pregnancy, death, car accident, etc etc. This all happens in the first hour and it gets a little depressing. However, the last 20 minutes they try to cram as much good as possible into the film. This movie just doesnt know what it wants to be. With that said, the film is a winner based on the terrific performances from it's cast. Mandy Moore lights up the screen and gives a realistic, honest, and likebale portrayal of Hallie, even though her character has such a negative outlook on life and love. Trent Ford as Mekken, the love interest, also gives a likebale performance and he will be one to look out for in the future. Allison Janney, as Hallies Mom, is hysterical, and steals every scene she is in. Mandy and Allison have wonderful chemistry together. So if you can get past the depressing storyline, How to Deal is a real honest portratal of teenage life with remarkable performance.

Review: Mandy this was the worst script you could have ever picked. Good thing a Walk to Remember was your first movie so people could realize that you really are a great actress, but this movie made me want to crawl in a corner and die. See my greatest fear would have been more enjoyable. Sorry to be honest!!!

Review: How to Deal! It's a perfect movie for anyone who's having trouble dealing with lifes twists and turns. The first time you watch it you'll be ongoingly saying.. "Oh My God! I can totally relate to that!" You'll fall in love with the movie. Mandy and Trent's personalities mix so well. It's a fun film!

Editing: Choppy and low-budget After such an uplifting movie in "A Walk to Remember", I decided to give this a try. Mandy Moore had such a persona that I believed she could morally pull through some of the things I saw in the trailer. But no morals were displayed here. Grandma smokes pot only as a comedic insert. No real understanding of why she would qualify for medical marijuana. Mom is sleeping with an apparently 'nice guy' who she went on one date with. There are many moments where they apparently didn't take enough footage to make smooth editing and some moments where even Mandy's acting seems clumsy. Many contrived moments borrowed from other movies (like trying to eat a cornish game hen and the future Brother-in-laws parents are horrified when it falls in her lap.) We're not horrified, just bored. And Mandy falls for a guy who has nothing to show for himself. She wants to have sex with him for the heck of it. But then when the fairly explicit (but no nudity) love scene she decides not to go through with it and runs away. Her reason? Think of all the reasons teens should not have sex:
It's morally wrong to have premarital sex.
She could get pregnant.
Sex means a commitment she's not ready to make.
She's giving up her precious virginity in a bedroom at a party.
etc. No. The reason she doesn't do it is because she was afraid she loved him too much. HUH?! There's nothing to convince us that she even loves him. Some genuine affection does shine through, and eventually the actor's charm shines through the "loser" character, but there is no positive message to take from it. All I can say is. Be afraid of this movie. Very, very afraid. BOO on Mandy for letting down her viewing public when she's one of the few teen actors who could stand for some kind of morals. In this movie, we're expecting her to come to some moral conclusion, some moment of understanding or growth. But it's just not there. I hope Mandy will not continue to disappoint by choosing this kind of slosh that should be thrown in the heap of Hollywood refuse. She is beautiful in this movie and her acting is excellent. There is so much promise!

Review: i really disliked this movie. i read one of the books it was based on (it was based on two) and it was nothing like the book. i hated this movie and i think that it sends a bad message out to girls. it makes it seem like it is ok to have a boyfriend that treats you poorly. i love mandy moore, but this was a horrible movie.. yuck.

Review: How to deal stars Mandy Moore as a young girl struggling along due to her parent's divorce as well as her mixed feelings on love. I really enjoyed this film, it's charming, witty, romantic and realistic which is not too common these day's. Highly recommended to the young and young at heart like me! I was looking for a good romance to watch with my wife on our wedding anniversary and we both really loved it. Mandy Moore is a very gifted young lady. Thanks for reading.
