Summary: A few good laughs, but is mostly annoying
Review: Often confusing and stupid, Rat Race is no laugh riot. While some of the jokes did cause me to chuckle, and even a couple made me laugh out loud, most of the jokes were unfunny. Worse then unfunny, they were so stupid they were annoying.Now, humor is a very subjective thing. What makes one person laugh makes another cringe or groan. I'm sure there are people who would laugh throughout this film. But I'm not one of them. This is what makes reviewing comedy difficult, though. More then any other genre, you get a lot of disagreement in comedy. That said, I doubt there are many who would say this is one of the funniest films they've ever seen. If they say that, they probably haven't seen many films. Mediocre at best, Rat Race supplies only a few genuine laughs. The story is, at times, confusing because the cast of characters is so large. As this bumbling group races to get a load of money across the country, the film cuts from one contestant to another so that by the time you return to a character, you forgot what was going on last time you saw them. Perhaps worst of all, the ending was lamer then I could have imagined. I won't spoil it, but don't expect much. It annoyed me more then anything leading up to it. This ones best as a rental. More people will probably be disappointed then pleased, so don't make this a blind purchase.

Summary: "Not than funny"
Review: Rat Race, directed by David Zucker (Airplane, The Naked Gun: From Files of Police Squad) and starring John Cleese (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Meaning of Life), Jon Lovitz (High School High, My Stepmother is An Alien), Whoopi Goldberg (Eddie, The Associate, TV's Hollywood Squares), Seth Green (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire, As Good as It Gets), is a bit funny though it fails to entertain providing what I call "bad humor" If jokes about poop and cows squirting milk on you is funny than you haven't seen enough good comedies. The plot is simple. John Cleese, a multi-millionaire, gathers several people and tell them that there is a locker filled with 2 million dollars somewhere in (I forgot the place). They race there and they think they arel entertaining us with their mistakes. However, all they prove is that the movie is not funny and that they think funny is acting like idiots and laughing at cows and Germans. The only worse comedy I can think of was Bandits, which was not funny at all. I do not recommend buying it. I don't even want you to rent it. It's horrible, unfunny, and I think David Zucker's good movies have ended.

Summary: Free associations from a childish mind
Review: Cynical and sad, the first adjective matches with comedies, but not the second one, this Zucker movie is not a movie in itself, but a couple of free associations whose IQ required to see it is less than a chimpanzee watching The planet of the ape. Some boring patrons and a excentric tycoon who run a casino choose by random a group of individuals who engage in a race to get 2 millions dollars. The individual zeal and greedy are overcome when they finally got the money and found a best and humanistic choice: donate dollars to a NGO, Feed the Earth. Along the lines of Farrely brothers but without their intelligence and class sensibility, Rat Race is neither a comedy nor a movie. Not only the characters are "kidnaped" by the director's free associations, but one is also trapped by it. The great difference is -if you are not a critic- that after being 15 minutes in the multiplex you can leave theater.

Summary: Don't let the trailer fool you
Review: I was a little wary of a movie that had a cow hitting the windshield of a bus driven by Cuba Gooding, Jr. and yelling, "Help me!" However, I was unexpected delighted by this movie. The laughs involve more drawn out jokes which just cannot be shown in the trailers. John Cleese and his band of gazillionaires were particularly enjoyable. If you like movies with different levels of humor (slapstick all the way up to subtle), this is a good one!

Summary: Have movie fans lost their collective funny bone?
Review: I'm completely shocked at the high rating this movie seems to be getting. Not only did I not hink this was funny, I think it's one of the most UNfunny movies I've ever seen. I expected much more from this cast of actors, but almost all the jokes fall flat. There's a few amusing scenes, but getting to the end of this movie was pure torture. Since a lot of other people seem to like it, I'm not going to tell you to forget it (maybe it will turn out to be your cup of tea), but please rent it before buying it. If I'd purchased this dog based on these reviews, I'd be very disappointed. Not only wasn't it fun watching this the first time, but the prospect of repeated viewings makes me both sleepy and ill.

Summary: Not worth buying
Review: I do not know where to start with my review. It is star packed and the star power definately keeps your interest throughout the movie. Unlike the many star packed movies out there, this one does have a few very hilarious scences. It reminds me in parts of Cannonball Run. However that is where the strengths and similarities end. With the exception of the ending I laughed. The movie begins to quickly unravel at the end. A movie that is humorous, interesting, and well written explodes like the Death Star at the end into an extremely lousy movie. The ending in this movie is horrible and makes the movie at best a mediocre rental. I would not recommend to anyone this movie as a purchase. At best, it is an alright rental.

Summary: Laughable Flick
Review: Being 15, I suppose I would be pretty much the target audience for this film. However, thanx to my dad who shows me classic films, or ones he enjoyed at my age once a week, I had an advantage over other viewers from around my age group. I'm sure this movie would have been much funnier to anyone who hasn't seen It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad world (not quite sure on the amount of Mads). This film is definitely a good updated version of the 1960's movie. Then again, updating pretty much means the level of humor goes down significantly into a potty humor range. Don't get me wrong, the movie was hilarious at many points, but it was much more forgettable than the original. It lacked the subtle, or even intelligent humor you find in older films. And the ending! Oh, the ending... What was the writer thinking?! When going for the "Sierra Madre" or "Mad Mad Mad World" ending, one must apply not only humor, but also creativity! Really, did not one of the actors in the film complain about it? Oh well, no use complaining about it too much. I doubt they will remake it just for me. Anyway, this is a good movie to rent when looking for a laugh. Notice I used the word rent. In my opinion, after the first time around, the quality of the humor goes down because you expect it now. Such is not the case in the 1960s film. Also, don't rent them both. You will find yourself feeling as though you've wasted your money on one or the other, depending on your sense of humor if you compare them side by side.

Review: It's so funny. Every character has a unique way to be funny. It's about people who got tokens in a slot machine who come to a meeting about a bag with $2million. These people do hilarious things to get the dough. The ending [stinks], but the rest of the movie is good. You'll just laugh even if you think about it. It's great, but it's PG13 for language and some sexual things, like a girl taking off her shirt but you cant see [anything]. Anyway you won't be bored even if it's on a portable DVD player.
